The insulating element holder has a stepped engaging shoulder and the housing has an outer periphery, formed with a tool-fitting portion adapted to engage a mounting tool, and an inner peripheral wall having a holder rest shoulder facing the stepped engaging shoulder. A packing element is interposed between the stepped engaging shoulder and the holder rest shoulder so as to provide a hermetically sealing effect between an atmospheric side ambience of the gas sensor and a measuring gas side ambience thereof. The holder rest shoulder is formed at an opening angle, representing an angle defined with a pair of profile lines on a plane including a center axis of the gas sensor in cross section thereof, which is set to be less than 100°.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for simultaneously testing molten metal, such as steel, for concentration of three or more dissolved gases. A gas flow manifold allows multiple calibrations of a gas analysis device independently of operations such as immersion and purging of an immersible probe that can be provided with a bypass conduit for gas flow directly to the analysis device. Accurate nitrogen content is determined by oxidizing a retrieved gas sample using heated CuO and measuring gas concentration of the gas before and after such oxidation. A gas reservoir can be used to temporarily store a portion of the retrieved gas for use in such testing.

Abstract: A gas sensor for sensing a gas stream constituent includes, mounted a substrate, a first gas-sensing element capable of sensing the constituent in a first concentration range, a reference element insensitive to the constituent and having electrical properties congruent with the first gas-sensing element, a heating element substantially circumscribing the first gas-sensing element and the reference element, a temperature-sensing element circumscribing the first gas-sensing element and the reference element, and a second gas-sensing element capable of sensing the constituent in a second concentration range. The first gas-sensing element and the reference element are preferably metal-gated metal-oxide semiconductor (MOS) solid-state devices. The gas sensor is particularly configured to sense hydrogen concentration in a gas stream.

Abstract: The present invention describes a system and method for accurately measuring the pressure within a filter housing. A pressure sensor and a communications device are coupled so as to be able to measure and transmit the pressure within the filter housing while in use. This system can comprise a single component, integrating both the communication device and the pressure sensor. Alternatively, the system can comprise separate sensor and transmitter components, in communication with one another. In yet another embodiment, a storage element can be added to the system, thereby allowing the device to store a set of pressure values. The use of this device is beneficial to many applications. For example, the ability to read pressure values in situ allows integrity tests to be performed without additional equipment. In addition, integrity testing for individual filters within multi-filter configurations is possible.

Abstract: A variable rate particle counter for adjusting the volumetric delivery rate of fluid to a flow cell based upon an initial particle count rate in order to effectively “tune” the final dilution of sample sheath flow to the particle concentration of the sample. A sheath fluid syringe pump and a test sample syringe pump are driven by motors which are adjusted by a data analyzer. The data analyzer compares a particle count rate measured by a detection assembly to a predetermined reference value and determines if the count rate is too high or to low. Accordingly, one of several pump profiles is initiated to adjust the flow rate of the sheath fluid or test sample or both. Advantageously, the low cell count precision is improved and the upper limit cell count is expanded.
