In accordance with the present invention, the interconvertible structure of alphabetic-numeric keypad utilizes this re-alignment technology so that the user is only required to push the drafting mechanism 4, for the alphabetic keys, obliquely arrayed, to be aligned into a conventional numeric keypad. This decreases the probability of typographical errors and makes the input of numbers more convenient on the portable computer.

Abstract: A pen of the present invention includes a barrel having a space therein, a refill bore at a front end thereof and at least an opening at a circumference thereof. A refill, which is received in the barrel, has a tip extruded out of the barrel through the refill bore. A tube is received in a gap between the barrel and the refill for reciprocation. An elastic member is received in the barrel to urge the tube outwards so that the tip of the refill is received in the tube in a normal condition. A tube driving mechanism is received in the opening of the barrel and connected to the tube to move the tube inward the barrel for exposing the tip of the refill and compressing the elastic when the tube driving mechanism is pressed. The elastic member returns the tube when the tube driving mechanism is released.

Abstract: A tool system is disclosed for mounting a nut or similar mechanical component in a mechanical mounting system. The tool system includes a spanner ring that has a series of protrusions that engage notches or recesses in a nut to be driven in the mounting system. A series of external notches form pockets around an outer periphery of the spanner ring to allow the spanner ring to be forcibly driven by a power tool. The spanner ring may be reversibly mounted on the driven nut to permit the notches to be engaged for both tightening and loosening the nut in the mounting system. A wrench-drive ring may be interfaced with the spanner ring to drive the rings and nut in rotation where sufficient axial space is available to receive rotating power tool, such as an impact wrench.

A handheld device is used to find a location of the detection cap behind the wall and a second hole is created in the enclosure of the flexible conduit blanket to pull the end of the communication medium out of the enclosure of the flexible conduit blanket.

The process of the present invention has been successfully applied to chipped, live trees, dried tree materials, branches, needles, pine cones, hay, flowers, grass, berries, and shrubs.

The blanket is provided by first and second sheets of material, at least one of said sheets of material being porous. The sheets are interconnected together and form an intermediate space for receiving at least a first conduit for conveying the water to the ground through the porous sheet of material. The first conduit may comprise layflat hose. Preferably, a plurality of channels are formed in the space, each for receiving a second conduit, such as a drip tape or like perforated hose, connected to the first conduit. Abstract: During in situ electroremediation of soil electric fields generated by electrodes (10, 12) that are located in the soil are used to move contamination, complexing agents, chemical reagents and/or nutrients through soil or to heat the soil. Control of the voltages and/or currents on or through the electrodes (10, 12) is used to prevent electrode clogging problems, to reduce unnecessary power consumption and/or to prevent boiling. In one aspect (electrokinetic remediation and electro heating) the current through selected electrodes (10, 12) is temporarily stepped down if the onset of clogging and or boiling is detected from an increase in the electrical resistances from an electrode into the soil. Preferably an effect of soil resistivity changes on the detection is removed by using sensing electrodes (14a, 14b) in the soil.

Abstract: The invention provides an improved method of collecting biogas from a landfill that results in more complete collection of biogas produced in the landfill, and with less contamination with air. The method involves providing the landfill with an upper gas containment layer near the surface of the landfill to retard biogas escape and air entrainment into the landfill. Underneath the gas containment layer is provided a gas-permeable conductive layer. Underneath the conductive layer, a well withdraws biogas from the landfill. Withdrawal of biogas from the well creates a partial vacuum that draws gas from the gas-permeable conductive layer down through the waste mass to the well. If the rate of gas withdrawal from the well is too rapid, air will be entrained from the atmosphere into the gas-permeable conductive layer. But if the rate of gas withdrawal from the well is too slow, biogas may percolate through the gas-containment layer and the surface of the landfill to escape.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining fastener axial loading includes a fastener insert having an arched bottom surface, which deflects correlative to the level of axial loading. A load indicating mechanism determines axial loading by measuring the amount of deflection experienced by the arched insert. In addition, the arched insert stores elastic energy that is added to the overall elastic energy of the fastener, thereby aiding the fastener integrity during use. A graduated load gauge is moveable to engage a load reference pin with the degree of movement corresponding to the degree of loading experienced by the fastener insert.

A method of surface hardening a screw includes carbon enriching the screw to at least a 0.48 carbon level, and then quenching the screw. Then, the screw is tempered such that the surface hardness does not exceed the core hardness by more than 3 Rockwell C points, and both the surface and core are at a Rockwell C33-C39 hardness. Subsequently, the point is induction hardened, and the screw is quenched again. The screw is again tempered such that the lead threads and the first 3-4 full threads are at a Rockwell C56 minimum hardness, preferably to a depth of at least 0.008 inches, and the core of the fastener is at Rockwell C33-C39 hardness. Finally, a finish is applied.
