Abstract: Paper machine clothing having a composite configuration whereby side fabric portions made of a more resistant material are woven to the main body portion of the fabric. Side fabric portions that are not protected from the paper web, and therefore exposed to harsher environmental conditions than the portion of the fabric covered by the paper web, deteriorate faster. By replacing the side portions that are exposed to harsher environment with more resistant material, the paper machine clothing will last longer. This can be accomplished by incorporating into the weave of a first side portion of the main body portion liquid crystalline polymer (LCP) melt-spun fibers.

Abstract: Disclosed is a resin composition which comprises a catalyst precursor for electroless plating to form an electromagnetic wave shielding layer. The resin composition comprises an organic polymer resin, a polyfunctional monomer having an ethylenically unsaturated bond, a photoinitiator, a silver organic complex precursor as a catalyst precursor, and an organic solvent. Further disclosed are methods for forming metal patterns using the resin composition and metal patterns formed by the methods. The methods comprise forming a pattern, reducing the pattern, and electroless plating the reduced pattern. A patterned layer of the catalyst formed using the resin composition is highly adhesive, a loss of the catalyst during a wet process is substantially prevented, and an increase in plating rate leads to the formation of a uniform, fine metal pattern after electroless plating. Electromagnetic wave shielding materials comprising the metal pattern can be used in the formation of films for shielding electromagnetic waves.

Abstract: A composite oxide coating is provided on a substrate over an infrared (IR) blocking multi-layer coating (e.g., low-E coating), where the composite oxide coating efficiently blocks ultraviolet (UV) radiation. The composite oxide coating and the low-E coating may be heat resistant, and the coated glass substrate may be processed in a single high temperature heat treatment step. The coated article may be effective at blocking both IR and UV radiation in applications such as window applications. The UV blocking coating may include ceria as a UV blocker in certain example embodiment of this invention.

Abstract: Sandwich composite constructions with superior thermal and acoustic insulation properties are provided. In addition, the sandwich composite constructions are lightweight and have a mechanical integrity that may allow them to withstand an impact force of five pounds per square inch or more. One aspect of the present invention relates to the composition of the sandwich constructions, while another relates to methods of fabricating the sandwich composite constructions. Materials incorporated into the constructions include fibrous material, aerogel, resin, separation material, and insulating material, such as a foam. A vacuum assisted resin transfer method (VARTM) may be used to manufacture the sandwich composites by infusing resin into a composite preform such that the resin is received into at least a portion of the fibrous material pores. Water soluble tooling materials may be used as the substrate for the preform to fabricate sandwich composite panels having either simple or complex geometries.

Abstract: A composite resin which has been produced by hydrolyzing and condensing a silane compound (2) containing a bissilane compound (B) represented by: XnR3-nSi—Y—SiR3-nXn ??(B) wherein Y is a divalent organic group which is optionally substituted with a fluorine atom or a divalent organic group which optionally contains an aromatic ring, R is a monovalent organic group, X is OH group or a hydrolyzable group, and n is 1, 2, or 3; in the presence of (1) porous and/or hollow inorganic oxide fine particles (A); and which is an integral mixture of component (1) and component (2) which has undergone the hydrolysis and the condensation. The composite resin of the present invention has voids in the resin since it contains porous and/or hollow inorganic oxide fine particles, and the composite resin of the present invention can also be formed into a cured article or a cured coating with reduced refractive index since it contains air which has the lowest refractive index.
