Publication number: 20070295898Abstract: Methods and an apparatus for reducing the effect of background ionizing radiation depression in vehicle and container monitoring systems due to shielding effects from components of the vehicle or container or modifications thereof. The methods utilize measurements of background radiation in two spectral regions of interest to calculate a normalization constant, and then utilize the normalization constant to normalize measurements in the same regions of interest when a vehicle or container is tested for the presence of a relevant ionizing radiation source such as 137Cs and 76Ga. Subtracting the two measurements to calculate a net difference provides a substantially valid measure of radiation counts in one spectral region of interest. Preferably the regions of interest abut or overlap, and preferably the spectral widths of the regions of interest are selected so that the attenuation of radiation counts due to background shielding effects in the two regions of interest is substantially equal.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 26, 2006Publication date: December 27, 2007Inventor: Alan Proctor

Publication number: 20070295903Abstract: Rapid and efficient fragmentation of ions in an ion trap for MS/MS analysis is achieved by a pulsed fragmentation technique. Ions of interest are placed at an elevated value of Q and subjected to a relatively high amplitude, short-duration resonance excitation pulse to cause the ions to undergo collision-induced fragmentation. The Q value of the ions of interest is then reduced before significant numbers of ion fragments are expelled from the ion trap, thereby decreasing the low-mass cutoff and allowing retention and subsequent measurement of lower-mass ion fragments.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 12, 2005Publication date: December 27, 2007Applicant: THERMO FINNIGAN LLCInventor: Jae Schwartz

Publication number: 20070295911Abstract: The invention relates to the fact that a common industrial neutron interrogation screening requirement is that a high throughput rate be accommodated by the screening system. The accumulation of elemental abundance ratio spectral data to minimize statistical uncertainty is a function of the neutron flux passing through the subject. If the subject passes through a neutron beam, with a strictly limited time window for exposure, the flux must be sufficient to accumulate the required statistics. The level of neutron flux necessary may exceed the cost effective limits of the selected neutron source means. Exposure time window dilation is disclosed through a class of system configurations which become practical for reduction to practice by utilization of linear neutron source topology neutron generators. This disclosure is concerned with example embodiments which utilize the length, width, thickness and segmentation of the source emission zone within an appropriate neutron source.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 11, 2005Publication date: December 27, 2007Inventor: John Sved

Publication number: 20070295940Abstract: A carbon nanotube suspension uses water as the basic solvent added with dispersant, stabilizer, coalescing aid, adhesion promoter, and a carbon nanotube. The basic solvent and the above solutes form a low viscosity solvent with carbon nanotube suspending therein. Therefore, the carbon nanotube suspension is formed to serve as a source material of the electron emission source of a field-emission display. That is, the carbon nanotube can be coated on a surface for forming the carbon nanotube electron-emission layer.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 31, 2007Publication date: December 27, 2007Inventors: Kuei-Wen Chen, Chun-Yen Hsiao, Jin-Lung Tsai, Yu-An Li

Publication number: 20070295943Abstract: Disclosed herein are anisotropic conductive particles contained in anisotropic conductive adhesive films, which can be used in circuit board mounting applications. The conductive particles can exhibit superior electrical reliability. Further disclosed are polymer particles having good compressive deformability and recoverability from deformation without being ruptured when an adhesive film containing conductive particles including the polymer particles as a component is interposed and compressed between connection substrates, thereby achieving a sufficient contact area between the particles and the connection substrates. Because the polymer particles have a spherical shape, a uniform particle diameter, and a narrow particle diameter distribution, the particles can exhibit enhanced conducting properties.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 26, 2007Publication date: December 27, 2007Applicant: CHEIL INDUSTRIES INC.Inventors: Jung JUN, Jin PARK, Jae LEE, Tae BAE
