Abstract: A coating of an encapsulated electrophoretic medium is formed on a substrate (106) by dispersing in a fluid (104) a plurality of electrophoretic capsules (102), contacting at least a portion of a substrate (106) with the fluid (104); and applying a potential difference between at least a part of the portion of the substrate (106) contacting the fluid (104) and a counter-electrode (110) in electrical contact with the fluid (104), thereby causing capsules (102) to be deposited upon at least part of the portion of the substrate (106) contacting the fluid (102). Patterned coatings of capsules containing different colors may be deposited in registration with electrodes using multiple capsule deposition steps. Alternatively, patterned coatings of capsules may be formed by applying a fluid form of an electrophoretic medium to a substrate, and applying a temporally varying voltage between an electrode and the substrate. The process may be repeated to allow for deposition of full color displays.

  • Publication number: 20080023333
Abstract: The present device is a microchannel separator that uses a separation driving force created by an electric field. An ionic fluid flows through the microchannels and is subjected to an electric field by two spaced apart parallel electrodes possessing an electric charge. The ions in the ionic fluid are attracted towards the charged electrodes and thus are concentrated in the region of flow near the charged electrodes and depleted from the central region of flow between the charged electrodes. The charged electrodes are insulated from the ionic fluid by an impermeable barrier which prevents arcing and adherence of the ions to the charged electrodes. After a sufficient length of passage of the ionic fluid through a main channel two blocking plates separate the flow into a central and two outer output channels. The central channel draws a portion of the ionic fluid from the central region of the main channel that has fewer ions than the ionic fluid in the regions near the charged electrodes.

Abstract: A cassette storage device is disclosed, which is capable of storing a cassette having a first connector. The cassette storage device comprises: a housing having an opening and a second connector; a tray coupled to the housing and being moveable through the opening; a first shaft positioned between the housing and the tray; a second shaft positioned between the housing and the tray; a driving end coupled to the first shaft and the second shaft; and a releasing switch positioned on the housing and coupled to the first shaft. Therefore, when the first connector of the cassette is going to be ejected from the second connector of the housing, the releasing switch is only required to be pushed slightly, then the first shaft, along with the driving end will subsequently make the second shaft rotate and thus push the cassette out from the cassette storage device.

Abstract: A catalytic hydrocracking process wherein a liquid phase stream comprising a hydrocarbonaceous feedstock, a liquid phase effluent from a hydrocracking zone, and a sufficiently low hydrogen concentration to maintain a liquid phase continuous system is fed into a hydrotreating zone to produce a first hydrocarbonaceous stream comprising hydrocarbons having a reduced level of sulfur and nitrogen. The resulting hydrocarbons having a reduced level of sulfur and nitrogen are introduced into a hydrocracking zone with a sufficiently low hydrogen concentration to maintain a liquid phase continuous system to produce a hydrocracking zone effluent which provides lower boiling range hydrocarbons.

Abstract: A gravity mineral recovery apparatus and process uses stratification to separate the relatively heavier valuable particulates from the lighter tailings in ore. A housing holds a process chamber therein, the chamber capable of oscillating within the housing. Ore is gravity fed into the process chamber and falls toward the bottom with the ore channeled to the outer sidewall of the process chamber by a deflector that creates an annular passage within the chamber. The oscillation of the chamber causes the heavier particulate to stratify into circumferentially disposed hoppers while the tailings are discharged through a central chute to a tailings hopper. The hoppers have compound sloped sidewalls and have a sensor for opening a discharge valve within the hopper once a given concentration is achieved. A series of sensors within the tailings hopper control a tailings discharge valve as well as an ore feed valve.

Abstract: A system for handling cut and creased folding carton blanks and delivering the blanks to a collecting conveyor with limited impact includes a lane adjustment section aligning the lanes, an accumulator section forming batches and a slow-down section. The lane adjustment section includes transfer assemblies each having a variable speed motor for individually adjusting the lanes and a pull roll for establishing a uniform speed. The accumulator includes a motorized drum, belts driven by the drum and a deflector moving the blanks into and out of a rotary pathway. The drum may be part of a removable drum module for modifying drum diameter. The slow-down section cyclically adjusts speed to slow each batch. An in-feed assembly provides for receipt of relatively short blanks onto opposite sides of the drum in a double batching mode to form separate batches in each lane.
