Abstract: A packet classifier and a method for routing a data packet are provided. The packet classifier includes a content addressable memory, a translation table and a parameter memory. The method includes looking up a content addressable memory for a base address into a parameter memory using a header of the data packet. The base address is related to the routes under ECMP for forwarding the data packet. From among these addresses, using multiple headers of the data packet, an adjustment to the base address is computed. The adjustment specifies an actual address to the parameter memory corresponding to a selected route for forwarding the data packet. The parameter memory is then accessed using the actual address to obtain parameter values relevant to the selected route. The data packet is then forwarded according to the parameter values thus obtained.

Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention sets forth a method for autonomously validating the time and frequency data obtained from multiple sources, and generating a suitable estimate of the frequency difference between the client clock and the source. The method includes the steps of protocol data unit validation, offset measurement, minimum offset filtering, and frequency filtering. With these steps, the negative effects of packet delay variation may be mitigated and a frequency estimate is determined for the source in question, together with an associated validity status. Consequently, quality control of the local clock is achieved in packet networks at significantly reduced cost and decreased level of complexity relative to prior art approaches.

Abstract: A network communications device may include an input/output (I/O) unit configured to communicate first data packets with at least two network communications devices over respective node segments on a packet network A processing unit may be configured to receive second data packets from the network communications devices. The second data packets may include network performance information generated by the network communications devices in response to receiving the first data packets. A memory may be in communication with the processing unit and be configured to store a table containing network performance information associated with the node segments over which the second data packets are communicated. The processing unit may be further configured to process the second data packets to store the network performance information in the table. The network performance information may be utilized to alter communications of data packets over the node segments.

Abstract: Packets are relayed using a network relay device including a plurality of interface units. Each of the interface units includes one or more physical ports for connection to a line, and a bandwidth controller configured to control transmission bandwidth for packets received by the physical ports. Furthermore, a single specific physical port is selected as the output physical port from the distributed-control logical port based on output port group information unique to the output port group including the distributed-control logical port.

Abstract: A method and system for interfacing between a portable media device and one or more media content providers. The method may be practiced, for example, in a system including the portable media device that receives content from one or more media content providers. The method can include identifying a first data format employed by the portable media device and a second data format employed by a selected media content provider. A data stream is received from the selected media content provider. The data received from the selected media content provider can be modified to be compatible with the first data format. Alternately or additionally, the data stream can be filtered to eliminate content that is unnecessary for the portable media device. The method further includes communicating the formatted data to the portable media device.

Abstract: A controller of a communications network enables endpoints or multiple networks to intercommunicate using multiple types of bearer format (IP, TDM, ATM, Frame Relay, etc.), and enables a bearer format conversion when necessary to carry bearer channel information across an interface of the network. The network may be packet-based or circuit-based and may include gateways and associated controllers which work in tandem to transfer format conversion parameters between endpoints or networks. The format control parameters are exchanged between various controllers, i.e., call control elements, to determine the appropriate format to forward the bearer channel information across the interface and to instruct the associated gateway of the required format conversion. The determination of the necessary format conversions may occur on a call-by-call basis, or by periodically detecting and storing format conversions associated with the various endpoints and intercommunicating networks.

Abstract: A method of interface communication between entities in soft switch system in NGN, and a method and apparatus for Gateway Control Protocol (GCP) message transmission are disclosed, so that H.248 messages can be transmitted between Media Gateway Controller and Media Gateway over MTP3B/ATM, hence full advantages of resources are taken in existing optical fiber networks and E1/T1 networks, so as to improve the networking flexibility and reduce the cost. The internal data transmission mechanism between MTP3B protocol layer and H.248 protocol layer is established via an M3H adaptation layer; load sharing between H.248 processing modules is enabled by establishing mapping between H.248 links and MTP3B signaling points; the adaptation relationship between MTP3B layer and H.248 layer is implemented by configuring and maintaining logic relationship between table of LinkSets, H.248-MTP3B mapping table, and table of H.248 processing modules, thus implementing the mechanism of bearing H.248 messages over MTP3B.

Abstract: Packets for a discontinuous transmission of a speech signal via a packet switched network may be provided in shorter transmission intervals during an active state and in longer transmission intervals during an inactive state. The active state may be selected whenever a speech signal comprises a speech burst, optionally with a hangover period after a respective speech burst. For enhancing the control of an adaptive jitter buffer at a receiver at the beginning of a respective transmission session, an active state is enforced in addition for a predetermined period at a beginning of a transmission session, irrespective of a presence of speech bursts. In case hangover periods are used, the length of the predetermined period exceeds the length of these hangover periods.

Abstract: The present solution provides a spillover management technique for virtual servers of an appliance based on bandwidth. A network administrator may configure a bandwidth threshold for one or more virtual servers, such as virtual servers providing acceleration or load balancing for one or more services. The bandwidth threshold may be specified as a number of bytes transferred via the virtual server. The bandwidth threshold may also be specified as a round trip time or derivative thereof. A user may specify the bandwidth threshold via a configuration interface. Otherwise, the appliance may establish the bandwidth threshold. The appliance monitors the bandwidth used by a first virtual server. In response to detecting the bandwidth reaching or exceeding the bandwidth threshold, the appliance dynamically directs client requests to a second virtual server.

Mode selection is enabled to provide for automatic detection and adaptation to any transmit rate including 10M, 100M, 1 G, and 10 G. Mode selection comprises the negotiation between the UGMII extension sublayers located at the MAC and PHY to select between one of several operational modes including: XGMII communication, GMII encapsulation, Clause 22 MDIO register management and Clause 45 MDIO register management. Selection of UGMII and XGMII operating modes are negotiated between the MAC and PHY using ordered sets to announce and acknowledgement a mode change. In one embodiment 802.3 Clause 46 defined ordered sets are utilized.

Abstract: In a RTP stream having a plurality of FEC frames containing source blocks of media packets, random access points are inserted in front of the source blocks so as to allow a media decoder to decode the media packets as soon as FEC decoding is finished. In particular, the media packets contain forward error correction (FEC) source blocks for a multimedia broadcast/multicast-based streaming service content. As the multimedia broadcast/multicast streaming service includes dynamic interactive multimedia scene content where the source RTP packets of different media along with the FEC RTP packets are transmitted as separate RTP streams, the inclusion of the random access point facilitates immediate rendering of the dynamic interactive multimedia scene content after FEC decoding, thus reducing the tune-in latency.
