Abstract: Mosaic-shaped block noise occurs when a compressed video signal is reproduced. This block noise is removed, but removing block noise from every block using a deblocking filter imposes a significant load on the deblocking filter. This load is therefore reduced by determining whether coding distortion removal (deblocking) is necessary, and applying a deblocking filter only when needed.

Abstract: An improved interpolation technique for reconstructing a complex signal from sampled data estimates a carrier phase for each sampled data time. The carrier phase is then used to compensate for frequency variation in the complex signal. The complex components of the sampled data are then interpolated separately with the interpolated results being used to produce an interpolated magnitude that is the reconstructed complex signal.

Abstract: Systems and methods providing resampling of a sampled data transmitted through a communication channel. Reliable resampling is provided even when original data samples are lost or reordered during transmission through the network. In one embodiment, a receiver associates each received data sample with a respective sampling time instant. The received data may include index values that associate the received data samples with respective sampling time instants. In other embodiments, the received data includes time stamps with encoded sampling time instant information. In another embodiment, arrival time instants are used to correlate the received data samples with their respective sampling time instants. The receiver then uses the sampling time information to select data samples corresponding to resampling time instants. If needed, the receiver uses interpolation to generate resampled data points corresponding to the resampling time instants.

Abstract: A circuit to synchronize the phase of a distributed clock signal to a received clock signal. Embodiments include a control loop comprising a phase interpolator, a clock distribution network, and a data receiver. The clock distribution network provides a sampling clock signal to clock the data receiver. The data receiver receives as its input the received clock signal. Control logic maps a subset of the output samples to a value, and this value is added to the phase introduced by the phase interpolator to provide an updated phase. Embodiments include a second phase interpolator and a second distribution network to clock a second data receiver, where the second data receiver receives the data. The control logic adjusts the second phase interpolator in the same way that it adjusts the phase interpolator. The two data receivers are matched to each other, and the two clock distribution networks are matched to each other. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: A linear phase detector includes an up/down pulse generator operating in response to received data signals and a recovered clock signal. The phase detector generates up and down pulses that have pulse widths proportional to the phase differences between transitions of the received data signals and edges of the recovered clock signal. By generating up and down pulses using a linear phase detector in proportion to a phase error, data signals are effectively recovered, even data signals with significant jitter.

Abstract: An important component in digital circuits is a phase rotator, which permits precise time-shifting (or equivalently, phase rotation) of a clock signal within a clock period. A digital phase rotator can access multiple discrete values of phase under digital control. Such a device can have application in digital clock synchronization circuits, and can also be used for a digital phase modulator that encodes a digital signal. A digital phase rotator has been implemented in superconducting integrated circuit technology, using rapid single-flux-quantum logic (RSFQ). This circuit can exhibit positive or negative phase shifts of a multi-phase clock. Arbitrary precision can be obtained by cascading a plurality of phase rotator stages. Such a circuit forms a phase-modulator that is the core of a direct digital synthesizer that can operate at multi-gigahertz radio frequencies.

An attachment system is placed between an upper end piece of a fresh fuel assembly that it is to be transported and the open end of a housing in which the assembly is placed, to make a rigid connection between them. The attachment system holds the lower end piece of the assembly far from the bottom of the housing and puts the upper end piece in contact laterally with the corner of the housing designed to face downwards during subsequent transport of the assembly in the horizontal position. Furthermore, the lower end piece of the assembly is maintained laterally by a part of the housing with a smaller section.

Abstract: Techniques for controllably directing beamlets to a target substrate are disclosed. The beamlets may be either positive ions or electrons. It has been shown that beamlets may be produced with a diameter of 1 ?m, with inter-aperture spacings of 12 ?m. An array of such beamlets, may be used for maskless lithography. By step-wise movement of the beamlets relative to the target substrate, individual devices may be directly e-beam written. Ion beams may be directly written as well. Due to the high brightness of the beamlets from extraction from a multicusp source, exposure times for lithographic exposure are thought to be minimized. Alternatively, the beamlets may be electrons striking a high Z material for X-ray production, thereafter collimated to provide patterned X-ray exposures such as those used in CAT scans. Such a device may be used for remote detection of explosives.

Abstract: Disclosed are embodiments of methods for reconstructing x-ray projection data (e.g., one or more sinograms) acquired using a multi-source, inverse-geometry computed tomography (“IGCT”) scanner. One embodiment of a first method processes an IGCT sinogram by rebinning first in “z” and then in “xy,” with feathering applied during the “xy” rebinning. This produces an equivalent of a multi-axial 3rd generation sinogram, which may be further processed using a parallel derivative and/or Hilbert transform. A TOM-window (with feathering) technique and a combined backprojection technique may also be applied to produce a reconstructed volume. An embodiment of a second method processes an IGCT sinogram using a parallel derivative and/or redundancy weighting. The second method may also use signum weighting, TOM-windowing (with feathering), backprojection, and a Hilbert Inversion to produce another reconstructed volume.
