Abstract: In an exemplary electromagnetic launcher, a housing with breech and muzzle is slidably supported in a carriage supported on a trunnion. First and second electrical contacts are mounted in the carriage toward an axis of the trunnion. The first and second contacts are electrically connectable to receive electrical power from an electrical power supply. First and second augmentation conductors are disposed aft of the trunnion and are electrically connected to the first and second electrical contacts. First and second main conductors extend from the breech toward the muzzle. A current cross-over connection is disposed toward the breech and electrically connects the first and second augmentation conductors with the first and second main conductors, respectively. The first and second electrical contacts and the first and second augmentation conductors may be engaged in slidable electrical contact over a portion of the first and second augmentation conductors, thereby accommodating recoil motion.

Abstract: A pressure spike modulator for engagement to the cylinders of an internal combustion engine. The device provides for adjustment of engine cylinder pressures using a reciprocating piston which provides a temporary increase in engine combustion chamber volume. Pressure from combustion chamber gases is communicated by the device back into the combustion chamber during the downstroke of the engine piston. Engine compression and peak combustion pressure may be modulated by adjusting pressure supplied to the device to resist incoming engine gases. Fuels for the attached engine may thereby be varied or substituted by adjusting the engine peak pressure and compression to one adequate for the chosen fuel.

Abstract: A process produces PCC from lime mud generated in the kraft pulping process. The process includes providing an aqueous suspension of lime mud, neutralizing the lime mud suspension, separating grit particles from the lime mud suspension, dewatering the lime mud suspension to produce dewatered lime mud solids, washing the dewatered lime mud solids to produce washed lime mud solids, and milling the washed lime mud solids to produce a PCC suitable for use as a filler and/or coating pigment for paper and paperboard.

Abstract: Self-repairing, fiber reinforced matrix materials include a matrix material including inorganic as well as organic matrices. Disposed within the matrix are hollow fibers having a selectively releasable modifying agent contained therein. The hollow fibers may be inorganic or organic and of any desired length, wall thickness or cross-sectional configuration. The modifying agent is selected from materials capable of beneficially modifying the matrix fiber composite after curing. The modifying agents are selectively released into the surrounding matrix in use in response to a predetermined stimulus be it internal or externally applied. The hollow fibers may be closed off or even coated to provide a way to keep the modifying agent in the fibers until the appropriate time for selective release occurs.

Abstract: The present invention is a portable mobile vehicle work station/organizer which is designed to be used in motor vehicles. The work station is a container which is capable of being secured to a passenger seat of the motor vehicle, preferably by passenger safety belt secured through a molded cavity of the work station. There is provided an adjustable computer holder which is adapted to be removeable from the work surface of the work station and capable of being received within the interior of the work station. An alternate embodiment of the present invention provides a slide out tray with non skid surface which can be configured for right hand and left hand use. The work station has a file folder storage compartment with a hinged and lockable cover utilizing a mechanical combination TSA approved lock and has a non skid surface. The cover has attachment points for mounting cell phones, personal digital assistants, printers, fax machines and global positioning systems.

Abstract: A twin sheet plastic pallet comprising an upper plastic sheet and a lower plastic sheet. The upper plastic sheet has a generally planar configuration and includes an upper face defining a platform surface for the pallet and an underface. The lower plastic sheet includes a generally planar main body portion and a plurality of spaced raised portions each including a top wall elevated above the level of the main body portion and fused to the underface of the upper sheet and a plurality of spaced upstanding legs connecting the top wall to the main body portion and defining fork lift passages for the pallet. The lower sheet further includes a plurality of upstanding pillar portions spaced about the periphery of the main body portion and the upper sheet further includes a plurality of downstanding pillar portions spaced about the periphery of the upper sheet main body portion and fused to respective upstanding pillar portions of the lower sheet to form spaced pillar structures.

Abstract: A halogen free fire resistant RF transparent polymer pallet has attenuated electrical resistance. A pallet body has a fire resistant layer and a substrate supporting the fire resistant layer. The fire resistant layer includes fire retardant materials, such as Al(OH)3, Mg(OH)2, intercalated graphite, zinc borate, and antimony oxide. The substrate is substantially free of the fire retardant materials to reduce the density and the electrical resistance of the pallet body. The fire resistant layer is substantially thinner than the substrate to lower RF distortion effects on RF transponder communications from additives and the conductive materials within an RF tracking system.

Abstract: A pyrolyzer has a heated inner housing that includes first and second conveyors. Preferred conveyors have independent or at least potentially independent flows of material to be pyrolyzed. All suitable conveyors are contemplated, including especially screw conveyors, or combination of screw and paddle conveyors. Both first and second conveyors can be disposed within a common lumen, with a partial divider between them. An alternative divider is also contemplated that more or less divides the inner housing into two lumens. Thus, the lumens can be entirely distinct, or can have cross-flow of gases and/or material being pyrolyzed. Heat transfer fins can be advantageously attached, extend from, or be otherwise coupled to the inner housing to assist in transfer of heat into the lumen(s) of the inner housing.

Abstract: The present invention is concerned with a method of controlling on-line the steam output of a waste incineration plant that is fed with waste of varying composition. Process or system quantities (u2, u3, xGC, xLL, w0) are measured repeatedly, at different times during operation of the plant, and a relation with linear parameters (?i) as coefficients of non-linear expressions (?i) of the process quantities is established by evaluating said measurements. From this relation, an optimal waste feed rate to obtain a desired steam output ({dot over (M)}steam) is determined and applied to a waste feed actuator of the waste incineration plant.
