Publication number: 20080053187Abstract: The invention concerns a procedure for the dynamic diagnosis of an exhaust gas probe disposed in an exhaust gas duct of an internal combustion engine after the emission control system. Provision is made according to the invention for the dynamic diagnosis to be implemented simultaneously with a precipitous change of a Lambda value of the exhaust gas from rich to lean or from lean to rich. During the operating time of an internal combustion engine, step changes in the mixture composition occur for different reasons from rich to lean and from lean to rich. If a dynamic diagnosis of the exhaust gas probe is implemented during such a step change of the mixture composition, provision must not be specially made for such a step change in the diagnosis, which can lead to increased emissions. It is simply to be taken into regard that the mixture composition is suited to the effect that the diffusion barrier is not eliminated due to mixture displacements, which are too large.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 4, 2007Publication date: March 6, 2008Applicant: Robert Bosch GmbHInventor: Andreas Koring

Publication number: 20080053191Abstract: A method for calibrating a valve having a valve element movable between a flow blocking position and a flow passing position includes pressurizing fluid directed to the valve, increasing a current directed to the valve for controlling a position of the valve element, and sensing a pressure of the fluid. The method for calibrating the valve also includes determining if a time-derivative of the sensed fluid pressure is greater than a predetermined threshold over a predetermined period of time, and determining a cracking point current command directed to the valve. The cracking point current command is directed to the valve when the time-derivative of the sensed fluid pressure is greater than the predetermined threshold.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 31, 2006Publication date: March 6, 2008Inventors: Benjamin Yoo, Eric Charles Hughes, Rick Dean Vance

Publication number: 20080053195Abstract: A device for generating soot particles with a reproducible and variable size distribution includes a combustion chamber (1), to which it is possible to supply fuel and oxidation gas and in which a flame may be formed, which is fed by the fuel and by the oxidation gas and which generates soot particles, and a soot removal conduit (3), which is coupled with the combustion chamber, in that, for example, it comprises an inlet from it, wherein the soot removal conduit in addition includes an inlet for a quenching gas. The combustion chamber and the soot removal conduit are part of a hollow space, which is capable of being decoupled from the ambient air in such a manner, that it is possible for it to be impinged by a pressure, which is different from the atmospheric pressure.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 7, 2005Publication date: March 6, 2008Applicant: MATTER ENGINEERING AGInventors: Ulrich Matter, Thomas Mosimann, Markus Kasper, Michael Riner

Publication number: 20080053196Abstract: A detector for monitoring the low levels of differential pressures and the rate of mass flow rate of gas (air, e.g.) in a duct. The sensor's temperature is maintained at a constant gradient above temperature of the flowing gas, typically 4-7° C. higher. The detector consists of two thermally decoupled sensors—one is the air temperature sensor and the other is a temperature sensor coupled to a heater. The sensors are connected to an electronic servo circuit that controls electric power supplied to the heater. The sensors are positioned outside of the air duct and coupled to the duct via a relatively thin sensing tube protruding inside the duct. The end of the tube has an opening facing downstream of the gas flow, thus being exposed to a static gas pressure.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 31, 2007Publication date: March 6, 2008Inventor: Jacob Fraden
