  • Patent number: 7406261
Abstract: A wireless communication system transmits data on multiple carriers simultaneously to provide frequency diversity. Orthogonality is provided by carrier interference, which causes a narrow pulse in the time domain corresponding to each transmitted data symbol. Selection of the frequency separation and phases of the carriers controls the timing of the pulses. Equivalently, pulse waveforms may be generated from an appropriate selection of polyphase sub-carrier codes. Time division of the pulses and frequency division of the carriers may be employed for multiple access. Received signals are processed by combining frequency-domain components corresponding to a desired user's allocated carriers. Individual data symbols are processed by providing polyphase decoding, matched filtering, or time-domain shifting the received carriers. Carrier Interferometry components may be used to build various signals corresponding to other transmission protocols.

  • Patent number: 7406262
Abstract: An optical transmission device improved in quality and reliability of OADM function and permitting configuration of highly-flexible, economical OADM networks. A wavelength tunable filter variably selects a wavelength according to a control frequency. A filter controller applies the control frequency to the filter while scanning wavelength over an entire signal bandwidth, to detect, from a reference wavelength monitor signal supplied thereto, a reference control frequency which permits the filter to select a reference wavelength and according to which wavelength is matched. On receiving a wavelength selection request, the controller obtains a target control frequency from the reference control frequency and the position of a target wavelength relative to the reference wavelength, and applies the obtained frequency to the filter. A reference wavelength filter transmits the reference wavelength therethrough. A light-receiving element monitors the transmitted reference wavelength to generate the monitor signal.

  • Patent number: 7406294
Abstract: A digital audio file reproduction apparatus, system and method having wireless transfer capability with a remote device. The apparatus includes a memory and a controller coupled to store and recall digital audio files with the memory. A transceiver operates to transmit and receive digital audio files according to a radio protocol. An audio circuit receives audio files from the controller and outputs the audio files for analog audio reproduction. The controller responds to the receipt of an in-range radio signal by the transceiver, from the remote device, to exchange digital audio files with the remote device via the radio protocol. A memory card slot is adapted to accept plural user-replaceable memory cards. The apparatus compresses and decompresses the digital audio files, which may be according to the MP3 format. A microphone circuit provided to enable the recording and storing of voice messages.

  • Patent number: 7406295
Abstract: A method for dynamically directing a wireless repeater is provided. A repeater will include an antenna, a mobile station modem, a processor and data storage. The processor will cause the antenna to sweep over a coverage area, possibly through increments. At each increment, the antenna will receive signals and pass the signals to the MSM. The MSM will then apply a rake receiver to identify characteristics in the received signals, such as PN offsets and signal-to-noise ratios (EC/IO) for each PN offset, and the processor will record in the data storage the PN offsets and corresponding signal-to-noise ratios at that increment. Given this data, the processor will then instruct the antenna to move to the increment where the MSM detected the strongest signal-to-noise ratio. As a result, the antenna of the repeater will point at a base station that is likely to supply the signal with the highest signal-to-noise ratio.

  • Patent number: 7406296
Abstract: A first radio transceiver is operated in close proximity to a second radio transceiver, even when the first and second radio transceivers operate in accordance with incompatible standards. Operation in this manner includes receiving a first signal that indicates whether the second radio transceiver is idle or busy and receiving a second signal that, when the second radio transceiver is idle, indicates when the second radio transceiver must have access to a second channel. Operation includes determining whether to enable the first radio transceiver to use a first channel based at least on the first signal.

  • Patent number: 7406297
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to solve a problem that malfunction of communication is generated by varying a frequency of a clock due to noise from outside in a case where there is no supplied signal in a circuit which performs negative feedback control so that the supplied signal and the feedback signal can maintain a fixed phase relationship between the signals. The present invention provides a configuration including a PLL circuit and an oscillator circuit, where a switch for switching an output between a signal from the PLL circuit and a signal from the oscillator circuit to the signal output portion is provided to switch from a connection to the PLL circuit to a connection to the oscillator circuit in a case where there is no received signal.

Abstract: A wireless communication apparatus adapted to be mounted on an elevated surface having an electrical socket thereon. The apparatus includes a housing, a photocell and a transceiver. The housing at least partially defines an interior space and has a portion which is translucent. The photocell is supported by the housing in the interior space so that ambient light exterior to the housing passes through the translucent portion to the photocell. The transceiver is also supported by the housing and is positioned within the interior space of the housing.

  • Patent number: 7406299
Abstract: Capacity of radio links in an in-building cellular communication system is currently limited by bandwidth available for a communications link between a terminal and a single base station. The present invention mitigates this limitation by permitting the terminal to establish a number of communications links with a number of base stations. Content data is distributed in parallel over the number of communications links.

  • Patent number: 7406300
Abstract: A wireless communication system includes at least one repeater antenna assembly for providing adequate RF coverage within a building, such as a home. An example repeater antenna assembly has an automatically adjustable gain that is controlled responsive to a pathloss associated with a received signal to avoid base station transceiver desensitization and positive feedback. A disclosed assembly avoids base station desensitization and positive feedback. Another disclosed technique maintains a selected minimum link budget within the building.

Abstract: A modulation-demodulation apparatus of a relatively simple arrangement is able to prevent a bad influence caused due to interference between two local oscillators and a portable wireless communication apparatus uses this modulation-demodulation apparatus. In a modulation-demodulation apparatus using a local oscillator (105) for use in direct conversion type of a receiving system and a local oscillator (104) for use with a transmitting system, a ratio (C/D) between a reception frequency and an oscillation frequency of the reception local oscillator (105) and a ratio (A/B) between a transmission frequency and an oscillation frequency of the transmission local oscillator are made different from each other.

  • Patent number: 7406306
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for placing a call between a client in one network and a client in another network. The IP network includes a SIP server and a network gateway configured to provide access to a public switched network. The method includes receiving a SIP call request message from the first client. The SIP call request message is authenticated to thereby identify an authentic originating client. Subsequently, a database is searched to find client billing tag corresponding to the authentic originating client. The call is completed if the client billing tag is obtained, and not completed if the client billing tag cannot be obtained. Thus, the present invention provides an efficient method for billing phone calls that are placed from SIP enabled devices to a telephone connected to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). The method of the present invention also substantially eliminates certain types of fraud.
