Publication number: 20080223713Abstract: The present invention involves increasing the quantum efficiency in titania photocatalysts for photocatalytic (oxidation of acetaldehyde) and photosynthetic (photosplitting of water) reactions by integrating the titania photocatalyst with a polar mineral having surface electrical fields due to pyroelectric and piezoelectric effects, and by adjusting the nanostructure of the photocatalyst materials. The photocatalytic reactivity of titania powder is increased due to the effect of electric field present on the surface of polar mineral material on the photocatalytic effect of commercial titania with respect to photolysis of water. Additionally, the photocatalytic performance of pure phase rutile and anatase nanostructures with well defined morphologies was found to improved with respect to certain photocatalytic reactions in comparison with non-structured titania.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 14, 2008Publication date: September 18, 2008Inventors: Huifang Xu, Rakesh Reddy Yeredla, Kuang-sheng Hong

Publication number: 20080223755Abstract: The invention concerns a process for slurry phase hydroconversion of liquid sulphur-containing heavy hydrocarbon feeds, in the presence of hydrogen and in the presence of a solid catalyst, said catalyst being obtained from an aqueous solution formed from at least one cobalt and/or nickel salt of at least one heteropolyanion combining molybdenum and cobalt or molybdenum and nickel in its structure. The aqueous solution is introduced into a hydrocarbon oil containing asphaltenes and/or resins to form an emulsion and said emulsion is then injected upstream or directly into the slurry reactor.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 14, 2008Publication date: September 18, 2008Inventors: Magalie Roy-Auberger, Denis GUILLAUME, Karin MARCHAND

Publication number: 20080223756Abstract: A method for producing an adsorbing agent, an absorbing agent obtained by the method, and its use as bleaching earth, in particular for refining oils and fats, is described. In the method according to the invention, a raw clay with a specific surface area of more than 200 m2/g, an ion exchange capacity of more than 40 meq/100 g and a pore volume of more than 0.5 ml/g is used. At least 40% of the pore volume are provided by pores which have a pore diameter of at least 14 nm, and at most 25% of the pore volume are provided by pores which have a diameter of less than 7.5 nm. Surface activation with an acid gives an adsorbing agent which has a bleaching activity which partly exceeds that of high performance bleaching earths obtained by intensive dealuminization and washing with strong acid.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 8, 2005Publication date: September 18, 2008Applicant: SUD-CHEMIE AGInventor: Klaus Schurz

Publication number: 20080223757Abstract: In a method for enhancing the efficiency of bitumen recovery from oil sands ore, CaO lime (or Ca(OH)2) is mixed into an oil sands ore-water slurry prior to or during the operation of slurry-based bitumen extraction processes. The lime is introduced at dosages effective to reduce the electro-chemical attraction between clay particles and bitumen in the slurry, thereby promoting detachment of clay particles from bitumen droplets in the ore-wafer slurry. This occurs because water-soluble asphaltic acids formed at the bitumen-water interface act as surfactants which reduce or eliminate the activity of Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions binding the clay particles and bitumen together. The detachment of clay particles promotes the attachment of air bubbles to the bitumen droplets, thereby forming a bitumen-rich froth which will float to the surface of the ore-water slurry, thus facilitating bitumen recovery.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 14, 2008Publication date: September 18, 2008Applicant: APEX ENGINEERING INC.Inventor: Baki OZUM

Publication number: 20080223758Abstract: From one aspect, there is provided a method of treating a volume of plastics waste, the method including providing a volume of plastics waste comprising one of more plastics types, the or each plastics types having a melting point and a flash point and providing a heating zone having an entry zone through which the volume of plastics waste is feedable. The heating zone is brought to an operating temperature so as to avoid carbonisation of the plastics waste and the plastics waste is heated so that at least some of the plastics is melted to form a flowable plastics melt. The flowable plastics melt is caused to flow though the outlet under the influence of gravity into a cooling zone during which gas is allowed to escape to facilitate the flow. From another aspect there is provided an apparatus for treating a volume of plastics waste including a melt chamber defining a heating zone and heating means for heating the volume of plastics waste.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 11, 2005Publication date: September 18, 2008Inventor: David J. Publication number: 20080223759Abstract: A compact housing for a dedusting apparatus utilizes a magnetic flux field to disrupt the static charge attracting dust particles to product particles, which along with fluidization and counter current airflow principles that are proven to dislodge dust particles from the product, provides a highly efficient, compact deduster. The housing supports a double wash deck with product flow separated between the back-to-back primary wash decks. A deflector directing the flow of product onto the primary wash decks is provided with an extension that extends parallel to the wash deck to eliminated product bouncing off of the wash deck. The lower air outlets are eliminated, while the upper air outlets are positioned in extensions to the main housing above the product inlet opening. Air flow through the Venturi zones is enhanced by directing clean air through slots formed in the lower deck members into the Venturi zones.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 24, 2008Publication date: September 18, 2008Inventors: Heinz Schneider, Paul Wagner
