Publication number: 20080232274Abstract: A novel alternative concept for handling dynamic provisioning changes and ongoing network reconfiguration and incremental reoptimization in general. A prime motivation is concern about the dependency of existing concepts for dynamic provisioning on the real-time coherence of databases of network state at diverse geographic locations. Not only is the continual updating of such global state everywhere in the network an intensive real-time load, but inevitable incoherencies pose hazards in network operation. The alternative proposal is a framework that makes use precise time synchronization and the computational power of network nodes to solve identical local instances of incremental reoptimization problems in situ. The new scheme removes the database coherency hazard, reduces signaling volumes, and increases resource efficiencies in service provisioning. It also provides a framework in general for continually ongoing incremental or (if desired) total reoptimization of network configuration.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 24, 2008Publication date: September 25, 2008Applicant: TELECOMMUNICATIONS RESEARCH LABORATORIESInventor: Wayne D. Publication number: 20080232281Abstract: Methods and systems for configuring ad-hoc networks, especially a self-configuring wireless sensor networks, are described. The network has an initial number of anchors with known positions that broadcast a signal. The signals are received by distributed nodes whose position is not yet known. The nodes rank the received signal based on a Quality of Link (QoL; received signal strength) and compute a Quality of position Estimate (QoE) for the node. The node with the best QoE is elevated to anchor. This process gradually increases the number of available anchors in the network and hence the position accuracy for additional nodes. The system can be used for geolocation of soldiers in the indoor combat, tracking the location of firefighter and other emergency personnel in rescue missions, etc.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 22, 2008Publication date: September 25, 2008Applicant: Worcester Polytechnic InstituteInventors: Kaveh Pahlavan, Nayef Al-Sindi, Bardia Alavi

Publication number: 20080232312Abstract: An apparatus and a method for transmitting uplink feedback data in a broadband wireless mobile communication are provided. The method comprises dividing tiles used as a feedback channel into a preset number of groups, selecting one group among the preset number of groups using a downlink channel, selecting a number of tiles, the number of tiles being equal to a number of tiles required for feedback data transmission in the selected group, and mapping feedback data to each selected tile. Thereby, feedback information can be transmitted via a tile selected by a terminal based on a channel state without a process of allocating and reallocating an additional feedback channel, thus enhancing efficiency of uplink wireless resources.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 17, 2008Publication date: September 25, 2008Applicant: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO. LTD.Inventors: Kwan-Hee ROH, Jin-Kyu KOO, Jae-Hee CHO, Jeong-Ho PARK, Tae-Young KIM, Soon-Young YOON, Ho-Kyu CHOI

Publication number: 20080232313Abstract: A method for enhancing data transmission efficiency for a radio resource control, hereinafter called RRC, procedure for a user equipment, also called UE, in a CELL_FACH state in a wireless communications system is provided. The method includes using a dedicated HS-DSCH radio network transaction identifier, hereinafter called H-RNTI, for a high speed downlink operation corresponding to the CELL_FACH state; initiating an RRC update procedure; changing to use a common H-RNTI for the high speed downlink operation if the dedicated H-RNTI becomes invalid; and continuing using the dedicated H-RNTI for the high speed downlink operation if the dedicated H-RNTI remains effective.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 18, 2008Publication date: September 25, 2008Inventor: Richard Lee-Chee Kuo

Publication number: 20080232314Abstract: This invention concerns a method of providing a VoIP connection through wireless communication links of a packet-based wireless communication system, and a corresponding base station and terminal. The wireless communication links comprise an uplink transmission path (2uc, 2us) from the terminal to the base station, and a downlink transmission path (2dc, 2ds) from the base station to the terminal. Each of the uplink and downlink transmission paths (2uc, 2us, 2dc, 2ds) have a control channel (2uc, 2dc) and at least one data channel (2us, 2ds). Control messages (20d, 21d, 220u, 221u, 230d, 250u, 260u) are generated for scheduling network resources and for suspending and/or re-issuing a persistent grant of network resources allocated to the VoIP connection.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 19, 2008Publication date: September 25, 2008Applicant: LUCENT TECHNOLOGIES Inc.Inventors: Matthias SCHNEIDER, Antonella Faniuolo, Rainer Bachl

Publication number: 20080232315Abstract: The invention concerns a method of managing coexisting packet streams (100, 110) in a wireless communication system, and a corresponding controller and a mobile terminal. A first packet stream (110) of the coexisting packet streams (100, 110) requires transmission resources of the wireless communication system at fixed time intervals, and a second packet stream (100) of the coexisting packet streams (100, 110) requires transmission resources of the wireless communication system at dynamically determined time intervals. A schedule defining allocations of transmission resources for the first packet stream (110) is set up. A request for an initial grant of transmission resources for a transmission of a data packet (101) of the second packet stream (100) is issued.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 19, 2008Publication date: September 25, 2008Applicant: LUCENT TECHNOLOGIES Inc.Inventors: Rainer BACHL, Matthias Schneider, Antonella Faniuolo

APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR PERFORMING INITIAL NETWORK ENTRY IN BROADBAND WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
Publication number: 20080232316Abstract: An apparatus and method for performing initial network entry in a broadband wireless communication system are provided. A communication method includes broadcasting, by a Base Station (BS), a Downlink Channel Descriptor (DCD) message including information on a different Frequency Allocation (FA) of the BS using all FAs; connecting, by one of a plurality of Media Access Control (MAC) processors of a Mobile Station (MS), using an arbitrary FA of the BS; obtaining, by the MS, information on the different FA of the BS by analyzing the DCD message received using the arbitrary FA; and performing, by one or more of the remaining MAC processors of the MS, a network entry process using the different FA of the BS according to the different FA information.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 19, 2008Publication date: September 25, 2008Applicant: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Min-Hee Cho, Jae-Hee Cho, Nam-Gi Kim, Hyoung-Kyu Lim, Hyon-Goo Kang -
