Abstract: A refrigerant system utilizes environmentally friendly natural refrigerant such as carbon dioxide. A pressure relief mechanism such as pressure relief valve is incorporated into the refrigerant system design to allow for at least some amount of refrigerant to be released to atmosphere to provide safe operation or comply with agency regulations if pressure within the refrigerant system exceeds a certain limit. This release can occur during refrigerant system storage, transportation or operation. A detection device such as an electrical circuit is included into the refrigerant system design to provide an indication that pressure relief valve has opened, such that the determination can be made by a refrigerant system control or an operator whether the refrigerant system needs to be recharged and whether it can continue its normal operation, narrow its operational envelope or shut down until the refrigerant charge can be restored.

  • Publication number: 20090235674
Abstract: This disclosure is related to software that responds to consumer usage patterns in order to create more ice. The developed software monitors ice dispenses rather they are crushed or cubed. When a threshold of the number of dispenses within the preset time period has been met, the freezer enters a high demand mode. During high demand mode, the freezer is commanded to run at a colder temperature for a preset period of time. The method described in this disclosure includes setting a threshold for the number of dispenses within a time interval and detecting the number of dispenses that are related to a trigger's activation. The method continues with sending a signal when the number of dispenses surpasses the threshold within the time interval and taking a corrective action that increases the production of ice when the signal is received.

When a refrigerant amount determining mode is requested to be performed, whether or not the refrigerant amount in the air-conditioner is proper is automatically determined and a shortage amount of refrigerant can be charged. Thus, a user can easily check whether or not the refrigerant charged in the air-conditioner is sufficient or insufficient, and if the refrigerant is not sufficient, the user can automatically charge the refrigerant without having to entirely remove the refrigerant from the air-conditioner, thus increasing the user convenience and reducing time and costs.

Abstract: When an internal temperature of a freezing compartment becomes lower than a lower limit temperature TF(OFF) during R-compartment F-compartment alternate cooling, a request for start of R-individual overcool preventing control is made. Then, the rotational speed of the compressor is decreased by one stage and, subsequently, a three-way valve comes to a “R-side open state”, and thus individual cooling of the refrigerating compartment is executed. Thereafter, after a set time, the rotational speed of the compressor is decreased by one stages. When the refrigerating compartment becomes lower than a lower limit temperature TR(OFF), a request for stop of the R-individual overcool preventing control is made. Then, the process shifts to individual cooling of the freezing compartment and then, after waiting for the freezing compartment to again become lower than the lower limit temperature, the compressor is stopped.

Abstract: Isopipes for use in making sheet glass by a fusion process are provided which exhibit reduced sag. The isopipes are composed of a zircon refractory which has a mean creep rate (MCR) at 1180° C. and 250 psi and a 95 percent confidence band (CB) for said mean creep rate such that the CB to MCR ratio is less than 0.5, the MCR and the CB both being determined using a power law model. The zircon refractory can contain titania (TiO2) at a concentration greater than 0.2 wt % and less than 0.4 wt %. A concentration of titania in this range causes the zircon refractory to exhibit a lower mean creep rate than zircon refractories previously used to make isopipes. In addition, the variation in mean creep rate is also reduced which reduces the chances that the zircon refractory of a particular isopipe will have an abnormally high creep rate and thus exhibit unacceptable sag prematurely.

Abstract: A method is provided for controlling cold rolling of a sheet metal strip involving continuously passing the strip in at least two successive rolling stands, each stand including at least two driven rolls between which the strip moves and is plated. The method includes estimating the sliding variation in output of one rolling stand; and correcting the rotation speed of the rolls of at least one corrected rolling stand based on the estimated sliding variation.

Abstract: Disclosed is a rolling mill comprising a roll stand with working rolls, a roll train located at the feeding end of the roll stand, and a control device. The working rolls form a roll gap. The control device triggers the roll stand such that the working rolls rotate at a certain peripheral speed while triggering the roll train located at the feeding end of the roll stand in such a way that the leading edge of the strip-shaped rolling stock reaches the roll gap at a feeding speed that is greater than the peripheral speed. The control device adjusts the peripheral speed and the feeding speed to each other in such a way that a potential angled position of the leading edge relative to the roll gap is at least reduced as a result of said adjustment.

Abstract: Magnesium and other metal alloy sheet materials are deformed at hot forming temperatures into vehicle body panels and other articles. Many such hot forming operations are improved in speed and product quality by predetermining a static recrystallization temperature of the sheet material. As the sheet material is being heated to its hot forming temperature, deformation is commenced below the static recrystallization temperature. As heating and deformation are continued, dynamic recrystallization of the workpiece occurs and deformation may proceed faster and to a greater extent.

Abstract: A non-planar sputter target having differing crystallographic orientations in portions of the sputter target surface that promote more desirable deposition and density patterns of material sputtered from the target surface onto a substrate. A closed dome end of the sputter target is comprised of a first crystallographic orientation and sidewalls of the sputter target are comprised of a crystallographic orientation different from that of the dome. The sputter target is formed, preferably by hydroforming or other metal working techniques, in the absence of annealing. The hydroforming manipulations result in the different crystallographic orientations while minimizing, or ideally omitting, the application of heat. Quick and cost effective non-planar sputter targets that are easily repeatably producable are achievable as a result.
