Publication number: 20100231055Abstract: An apparatus in an electronic control system allows two or three wire operation. A power supply can supply power to the enclosed circuitry in both two and three wire installations. Two separate zero cross detectors are used such that timing information can be collected in both two and three wire installations. Both zero cross detectors are monitored and are used to automatically configure the electronic control. Over voltage circuitry senses an over voltage condition across a MOSFET which is in the off state and turns the MOSFET on so that it desirably will not reach the avalanche region. Over current circuitry senses when the current through the MOSFETs has exceeded a predetermined current threshold and then turns the MOSFETs off so they do not exceed the MOSFETs' safe operating area (SOA) curve. The machine has two arrays of rotor poles, positioned on either side of the stator poles, and circumferentially aligned with each other. When a pair of rotor poles is aligned with a stator pole, a small airgap is formed at each end of the stator pole, across which flux can be driven to produce torque in a rotary arrangement or force in a linear arrangement. When the poles are in the unaligned position, the phase inductance is very low.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 11, 2010Publication date: September 16, 2010Applicant: Switched Reluctance Drives LimitedInventors: Paul Andrew Sykes, Phillip George Dickinson

Publication number: 20100231066Abstract: Electrical machine (1) having a stator (3), which has axially extending cooling channels (8) in the laminate stack and/or cooling channels (9) extending between the stator and a housing, having a rotor (20), whose laminate stack (19) has an internal bore or is positioned on a hub structure (7) having an internal bore, wherein permanent magnets (14) are arranged in or on the laminate stack (19) of the rotor (20), wherein at least one axial-flow fan (4) is provided in the internal bore of the rotor (20), the air flow produced by said axial-flow fan, once it has passed through the rotor (20), by means of flowing through a suitable apparatus (13) achieves a nozzle effect which, owing to the venturi effect, brings about an air flow through the cooling channels (8) arranged in the stator (3). The remanence of the permanent magnets (14) is therefore positively influenced.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 15, 2006Publication date: September 16, 2010Applicant: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventor: Olaf Körner

Publication number: 20100231067Abstract: An electric motor having a housing, a stator mounted in the housing, and a rotor mounted in the housing for rotation relative to the stator about a central axis. The rotor has opposite ends and a plurality of fluid flow passages extending through the rotor between the ends. An electro-magnetic drive system is operatively connected to the rotor for driving rotation of the rotor relative to the stator. A fluid circulation system is in fluid communication with the fluid flow passages for providing fluid flow from the first end of the rotor to the second end of the rotor through at least one of the fluid flow passages and fluid flow from the second end of the rotor to the first end of the rotor through at least one other of the fluid flow passages. The rotor and components of the fluid circulation can be assembled to make a rotor assembly.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 11, 2009Publication date: September 16, 2010Inventors: Stephen M. Publication number: 20100231068Abstract: In the brushless motor, a magnetic recording disk is to be mounted on a hub. A base plate rotatably supports the hub on the upper surface. A laminated core is fixed on the upper surface of the base plate and has a ring portion and a plurality of teeth that extend radially from the ring portion. Coils are wound around the plurality of teeth. A cylindrical magnet is fixed to the hub and is magnetized for driving with a plurality of poles along the circumferential direction and is arranged to radially face the plurality of teeth of the laminated core. A wire of one end of one of the coils is drawn out to the bottom surface of the base plate through a hole arranged on the base plate. The wire is connected to a driving line for supplying a current to the coils at a position other than the position of the hole on the base plate. The hole of the base plate is plugged with a resin.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 18, 2010Publication date: September 16, 2010Applicant: ALPHANA TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD.Inventors: Hiroki Yamazaki, Hiroshi Muramatsu
