Abstract: A device for a wireless RF link to a remote receiving device can radiate at different radiation patterns in response to detecting a change in the device position. As the device is moved, displaced, or re-positioned, a position sensor in the device detects the change in position and provides position information to a processor. The processor receives the position information from the position sensor, selects an antenna configuration and physical data rate based on the position information, and provides an RF signal associated with the selected antenna configuration through the antenna elements of the selected antenna configuration.

A number of hotspots are arranged around and bordering a region of interest (ROI), which are each, associated with an image parameter adjustment (e.g. contrast or brightness). An eye-tracking device determines a fixation point of the user and the system automatically performs the associated adjustment whenever the fixation point falls within a hotspot. The close bordering of the hotspots around the ROI allows the user to keep focus on the ROI and only slightly shift his/her gaze to or towards a hotspot for adjusting an image parameter. Thereby, the adjustment can be controlled while still keeping the ROI in focus so that the effect of the adjustment can be followed simultaneously.

Abstract: A front light guide panel including a plurality of embedded surface features is provided. The front light panel is configured to deliver uniform illumination from an artificial light source disposed at one side of the font light panel to an array of display elements located behind the front light guide while allowing for the option of illumination from ambient lighting transmitted through the light guide panel. The surface embedded surface relief features create air pockets within the light guide panel. Light incident on the side surface of the light guide propagates though the light guide until it strikes an air/light material guide interface at one on the air pockets. The light is then turned by total internal reflection through a large angle such that it exits an output face disposed in front of the array of display elements.

Abstract: A multi-directional remote control system and method is adapted for use with an interactive media system of a type including a display such as a monitor or TV with a camera. The remote control system and method images the controller to detect relative motion between the controller and screen with the camera. This position information is used for control of a cursor or other GUI interface. A movable IR filter improves detection of the IR during tracking and allows the camera to have a second function, such as a web cam or other function, with the filter not in place.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for controlling a computing environment with one or more gestures by sizing a virtual screen centered on a user, and by adapting the response of the computing environment to gestures made by a user and modes of use exhibited by a user. The virtual screen may be sized using depth, aspects of the user such as height and/or user profile information such as age and ability. Modes of use by a user may also be considered in determining the size of the virtual screen and the control of the system, the modes being based on profile information and/or information from a capture device.

Abstract: Methods and devices for a remote control device for a display device are disclosed. In one embodiment, the remote control device may comprise a plurality of light sources that each has a light profile angled in a predetermined degree different from other light sources. In another embodiment, the remote control device may comprise a controller; and a plurality of optical detectors coupled to the controller. Each optical detector may generate a pair of electrical signals in response to incident light from a plurality of light sources located on a display device and the controller may calculate the position of the remote control device based on the electrical signals.

Abstract: Personal computer (PC) and online gaming are gaining popularity around the world. Typically players use PC input devices such as keyboards and mice for playing PC games. Many of the modern PC games use a control scheme commonly known as the “WASD/Mouse”, which is a combination of the “WASD” keys of the keyboard and the mouse as means for interacting with the PC games. Additionally, to further expand on game control functions, modifier keys are used in conjunction with other keyboard keys to serve as shortcut keys for activating such game control functions. However, due to the non-ergonomic positioning of the shortcut keys, players often suffer from wrist discomfort after PC game playing sessions due to increased strain placed on their wrists when using the shortcut keys frequently. An embodiment of the invention describes a system and method for switching processes selectable by keys on human interface devices.

Abstract: A keyboard having multi-axis balance touch keys and particularly a keyboard equipped with touch keys aims to provide steady depressing operation. Each touch key includes a depressible plate, a contact switch, a base and a plurality of balance elements. The balance elements are arranged in two different axial directions and latched respectively on first retaining elements located on the depressible plate and second retaining elements located on the base. The first and second retaining elements have respectively at least one horizontal slot to allow the balance elements to slide therein parallel with the depressible plate. Thus downward depressing forces can be evenly distributed and a steady depressing movement is achieved wherever the touch keys is depressed. Swaying of the touch keys can be prevented and correct output signals can be delivered from the keyboard.
