  • Patent number: 7810699
Abstract: A method of minimizing mechanical resonance in an assembly during formation of a vibration-welded joint therein includes positioning work pieces such that they are directly adjacent to each other, and generating a set of control signals that cause one or more sonotrode weld heads to vibrate. A waveform characteristic of a mechanical oscillation of the sonotrode(s) and weld head(s) is varied to minimize the mechanical resonance occurring in the assembly, such as a multi-cell battery for a vehicle. An apparatus for forming the welded joint includes at least one sonotrode having a weld head or heads formed integrally therewith, and a weld controller. The controller is connected to a converter, sonotrode(s), and weld head(s), with the mechanical oscillation occurring in the sonotrode(s) and weld head(s). Variation of the control signals during formation of the welded joint varies a waveform characteristic of the mechanical oscillation, thus minimizing the mechanical resonance.

  • Patent number: 7810701
Abstract: A connection electrode that is formed of solder on an electronic component side and a tip portion of an elastic contact each other at a contact portion. Regarding the elastic contact, a resistive layer is formed in the tip portion, and the tip portion is placed in a clearance of an induction coil. When a predetermined high-frequency current is passed through the induction coil, electromagnetic induction causes the resistive layer to generate heat. Solder that forms the connection electrode is melt, and flows onto the tip portion of the elastic contact. Thus, the tip portion of the elastic contact and the connection electrode can be strongly bonded together at the contact portion that is a single point therebetween.

  • Patent number: 7810702
Abstract: A method of producing standoffs in an injection molded solder (IMS) mold, which possesses cavities, each of which is filled with a solder paste using standard techniques, such as screening or IMS. This solder paste is heated to a reflow temperature at which the solder melts and forms a ball or sphere. Since solder pastes are known to reduce in volume due to the therein contained organic material burning off, the remaining solder ball will be significantly lower in volume than that of the cavity. A solder material having a lower melting point is then filled into the cavities about the solder balls. The mold and solder metal are then allowed to cool, resulting in the formation of a solid sphere of metal in the cavity surrounded by solder material of a lower melting point, which, upon transfer to a wafer, form the standoffs.

  • Patent number: 7810704
Abstract: A method for joining component bodies of material over bonding regions of large dimensions by disposing a plurality of substantially contiguous sheets of reactive composite materials between the bodies and adjacent sheets of fusible material. The contiguous sheets of the reactive composite material are operatively connected by an ignitable bridging material so that an igniting reaction in one sheet will cause an igniting reaction in the other. An application of uniform pressure and an ignition of one or more of the contiguous sheets of reactive composite material causes an exothermic thermal reaction to propagate through the bonding region, fusing any adjacent sheets of fusible material and forming a bond between the component bodies.

  • Patent number: 7810705
Abstract: In a conductive material supply apparatus that can connect a small slider electrode and a wiring electrode on a flexure in a miniaturized magnetic head, electrically conductive material is supplied, with the aid of flow of nitrogen gas that is pressurized to a first pressure, into the interior of a nozzle assembly that defines an interior space having a nozzle orifice through which the electrically conductive material can pass. After the electrically conductive material has been supplied, the flow of the nitrogen gas is stopped, and the interior space is temporarily brought into communication with the exterior space thereby decreasing the pressure in the interior space. Thereafter, nitrogen gas maintained at a second pressure that is designed to be lower than the first pressure is supplied to the interior space, whereby the electrically conductive material is ejected to the exterior from the nozzle orifice by the effect of the second pressure.

  • Patent number: 7810722
Abstract: A refueling environment is coupled to a remote facility disposed apart from fuel dispenser locations and is connected to a network. A user identification is sent to the remote facility. The remote facility establishes an access connection with a network node, on behalf of the customer. The network communications follow a client-server session format and are correlated to the user ID. The remote facility sends a cookie element to the server that was previously set by the server during an initial Web site visit. The cookie contains state information. The remote facility associates the unique identification number with the relevant user ID. The server uses the received cookie element to identify the corresponding user profile record maintained at the server side. The server generates customized content from the retrieved user profile record and sends it to the customer.
