  • Patent number: 7811334
Abstract: A system and method associated with the movement of a limb. In one example, the system, such as a prosthetic or orthotic system, includes an actuator that actively controls, or adjusts, the angle between a foot unit and a lower limb member. A processing module may control movement of the actuator based on data obtained from a sensor module. For instance, sensing module data may include information relating to the gait of a user and may be used to adjust the foot unit to substantially mimic the movement of a natural, healthy ankle. The system may further accommodate, for example, level ground walking, traveling up/down stairs, traveling up/down sloped surfaces, and various other user movements. In addition, the processing module may receive user input or display output signals through an external interface. For example, the processing module may receive a heel height input from the user.

  • Patent number: 7811377
Abstract: A substantially white powder for use as a filler and/or extender derived from by-products of manufacturing vitreous low alkali, low iron glass fibers, and a method for producing the powder. The filler has very low alkalinity and by virtue of its being essentially free of crystalline silica is non-hazardous to health and therefore safe for consumer-based and industrial-based uses.

  • Patent number: 7811378
Abstract: The invention relates to a dispersible pigment concentrate, in particular for coloring of cement based building materials like concrete, and for coatings, paints and the like, that contains at least one pigment as well as, if necessary, bonding, dispersion and wetting agents, with a content of a disintegration agent, which, when contacting water (in sufficient amount), causes an essentially complete disintegration of the primary structure of the concentrate with subsequent release the pigment particle within one minute without any mechanical operation.

  • Patent number: 7811381
Abstract: Antisolvent crystallization systems and methods are provided that employ porous hollow fiber membranes. The porous hollow fiber membrane includes a plurality of porous hollow fibers positioned within a shell, each porous hollow fiber defining a lumen side and shell side. A crystallizing solution is introduced to one side of the hollow fibers and an antisolvent is introduced to the other side of the fibers, in either cocurrent or countercurrent flow. One of the antisolvent and the crystallizing solution permeates in part through the porous hollow fiber membrane to the other side and crystals are formed thereby. Permeation of the antisolvent or the crystallizing solution establishes advantageous radial mixing that facilitates crystal formation of a desired size distribution. Downstream mixing, e.g., a completely stirred tank or a static mixer, may be employed to further improve crystallization operations.

  • Patent number: 7811382
Abstract: A wafer having a silicon layer that is strained is used to form transistors. The silicon layer is formed by first forming a silicon germanium (SiGe) layer of at least 30 percent germanium that has relaxed strain on a donor wafer. A thin silicon layer is epitaxially grown to have tensile strain on the relaxed SiGe layer. The amount tensile strain is related to the germanium concentration. A high temperature oxide (HTO) layer is formed on the thin silicon layer by reacting dichlorosilane and nitrous oxide at a temperature of preferably between 800 and 850 degrees Celsius. A handle wafer is provided with a supporting substrate and an oxide layer that is then bonded to the HTO layer. The HTO layer, being high density, is able to hold the tensile strain of the thin silicon layer. The relaxed SiGe layer is cleaved then etched away to expose the thin silicon layer.

  • Patent number: 7811383
Abstract: The device for production of a monocrystalline or a multicrystalline material blank, especially a silicon multicrystalline blank, using the VGF method has a crucible with a rectangular or square cross section. A flat heating device, especially a jacket heater, which generates an inhomogeneous temperature profile, is arranged around the crucible. This temperature profile corresponds to the temperature gradient formed in the center of the crucible. The heat output of the flat heating device decreases from the top to the bottom end of the crucible. The flat heating device includes parallel heating webs, which extend in a meandering course. The heat outputs from the heating webs differ according to their different conductor cross sections. To avoid local overheating in corner areas of the crucible, constrictions of the cross sections of the heating webs are provided at inversion zones of their meandering course.
