Abstract: A general method for simultaneously measuring longitudinal and shear wave speeds in materials under load via echo or transmission is described. This process proceeds in simple steps. Users load a specimen, either compressionally, tensilely, or torsionally and the loading is directed along a loading axis. Users connect a transducer with the specimen without loading the transducer and connect the transducer with a data collection apparatus. An ultrasonic pulse is launched from the transducer into the specimen along the loading axis, simultaneously triggering the data collection apparatus. The user measures signals on the data collection apparatus, allowing the user to calculate longitudinal wave speeds and shear wave speeds, whereby both longitudinal wave speeds and shear wave speeds of specimens under load can be measured simultaneously using one transducer. A novel device for measuring longitudinal and shear wave speeds in materials simultaneously is also described.

Abstract: There is disclosed a high pressure sensing header which is relatively insensitive to mounting torque. Essentially the header consists of an outer torque isolating shell which has a “C” shaped cross section with the cylindrical shell surrounding an inner “H” section header. The inner “H” section header has a thick diaphragm and is surrounded by the torque isolating shell which is secured to the “H” section header at a peripheral flange of the “H” section header. In this manner when the header is installed, the installation force is absorbed by the outer shell and there is no installation force or torque exhibited by the inner “H” section which will respond only to stress due to pressure. The torque isolating shell also contains a top surface which has a counterbore which can accommodate a crush ring, and when the unit is installed, the crush ring is forced or crushed against an installation wall to enable the inner header to receive pressure without experiencing any significant installation force.

The shaft part inner end reaches in to engagement with a process fluid which pressure is to be measured. The inner end is provided with perforations for admitting process fluid into the inner room of the shaft part. In the inner room and straight behind the inner end it is arranged a block which constitute a base for a separating membrane for transferral of the process fluid pressure via a hydraulic pipe to a pressure sensor element in the flange part. An arrangement determines whether a power reset is responsive to a battery bounce such that an initially-measured system start-up parameter can be retained. The start-up parameter is automatically saved at start-up if the power reset is responsive to a start-up from a shut-down condition. The start-up parameter may be a zero tension amplified output responsive to the sensor offset at zero tension. Protection of a tension data set is provided such that no opportunity for altering the data set is presented prior to transfer of the data set. Abstract: In a robotic system having a two-axis robotic wrist connected to a reference member, the wrist has a movable member movable relative to the reference member in pitch and yaw. A first serial chain linkage connects the movable member to the reference member and a second serial chain linkage connects the movable member to the reference member in parallel relationship with the first serial chain linkage. The linkages are configured to constrain the movable to spherical movement, and such that the robotic wrist is non-singular, non-overconstrained, and non-overactuated. Actuation of a pair of revolute joints connected to the reference member deflects the movable member in pitch and yaw. The roll angle resulting from deflection in pitch and yaw is that of an intersecting-shaft constant-velocity coupling connecting the reference member to the movable member.

Abstract: A clamp assembly secures a fixed portion of a steering column assembly to a movable portion of a steering column. It comprises a rack of teeth carried by the moving portion and a rack of teeth carried by the fixed portion and an inner hollow toothed block nested inside an outer hollow toothed block, each carrying at least one rack of teeth with the rack of teeth on the inner block facing the rack of teeth on the moving portion and the rack of teeth on the outer block facing the rack of teeth on the fixed portion. A retaining clip provides a lost motion coupling between the retaining clip and the inner toothed block and an independent lost motion coupling between the retaining clip and the inner toothed block and an independent motion coupling between the retaining clip and the outer toothed block. First, second and third springs bias the teeth of the blocks into and out of engagement with the racks when locked and unlocked.

Abstract: A curled variable radius lever comprises a lever arm 2 of variable effective length that curls and uncurls about a drive axis. In a preferred arrangement the lever assembly has a plurality of rigid blocks 3 articulated together by a chain 4 with link pivots 5 which are affixed to respective blocks 3. Each block 3 has a pair of facing walls 11 and a pair of facing mutually inclined sloping walls 12 which abut when the lever arm 2 is in a curled condition. The lever arm 2 is pulled into the curled condition by a coiled tension spring 13 and restrained in this position by a magnet 9. When it is uncurled the walls 11 abut. The chain 4 then prevents the arm 2 from bending further when a driving force is applied by users to a handle 6. The lever may be used with socket sets, yacht winch, fishing rod reel, a bicycle crank or a jack assembly.

The used printed circuit boards are roasted with plasma at 800 degrees Celsius for less than 10 minutes, thus producing exhaust and residue that contains the precious metal. The exhaust is treated with an exhaust-treatment system before it is released to the atmosphere. The residue is ground and turned into scraps of a diameter smaller than 2 mm. The scraps are subjected to magnetic separation, thus separating ferromagnetic scraps from non-ferromagnetic scraps. The ferromagnetic scraps are refined. The non-ferromagnetic scraps are screened, thus separating tiny non-ferromagnetic scraps from big non-ferromagnetic scraps. The tiny non-ferromagnetic scraps contain silver and gold.
