Abstract: An expansion joint has an elongated flat sheet of flexible and resilient polymeric material. The flat sheet has having a width and a length; upper and lower surfaces; and first and second edges. The sheet has selvage edges and a central gland. The selvage edges have a pair of parallel elongate first and second scrims. The scrims may be formed or embedded on each of the opposite surfaces along the length of the sheet. The rough strips on each surface bracket the elongated strip of bare surface of the gland. The sheet has an array of apertures located in one of the selvage edges. An additional array of apertures may be formed in the opposite selvage edge. The apertures pass through, but are not limited to passing through, the sheet and the strips.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method and apparatus for dispensing a predetermined amount of pre-stretched film based upon load girth. A non-rotating ring carries a belt. A film dispenser is mounted on a rotating ring, and the rotating ring includes a pulley that connects to the belt. Based upon the girth of the load to be wrapped, an amount of pre-stretched film to be dispensed for at least a portion of a revolution made by the rotating ring is determined. Good wrapping performance in terms of load containment (wrap force) and optimum film use is obtained by dispensing a length of pre-stretched film that is between approximately 100% and approximately 130% of load girth. Once the amount of film to be dispensed per revolution is determined, a mechanical ratio of ring drive to final pre-stretch surface speed (i.e., number of pre-stretch roller revolution/ring rotation) can be set.

Abstract: When the operating state of an internal combustion engine (10) is under low load, the supply of unburned fuel is controlled by using post-injection without using in-exhaust-pipe direct injection. Under medium load, the supply of the unburned fuel is controlled by using both the post-injection and the in-exhaust-pipe direct injection. Under high load, the supply of the unburned fuel is controlled by using the in-exhaust-pipe direct injection without using the post-injection. Thus, in air-fuel ratio rich control performed during regeneration to recover the purification capability of an exhaust gas purification apparatus, both black smoke and white smoke are reduced when the supply of the unburned fuel for supplying the unburned fuel into exhaust gas is controlled.

Abstract: A catalyst deterioration diagnosing apparatus is provided with means for performing stoichiometric feedback control on the air-fuel ratio based on at least output from an upstream air-fuel ratio sensor provided upstream of a catalyst, means for measuring the oxygen storage capacity of the catalyst, and means for correcting the measured value of the oxygen storage capacity based on at least the output behavior of a downstream air-fuel ratio sensor provided downstream of the catalyst during the stoichiometric feedback control. The measured value of the oxygen storage capacity is corrected using the output behavior of the downstream air-fuel ratio sensor during stoichiometric feedback control. The diagnostic is performed after eliminating the effects from sulfur by correcting the measured value to a value corresponding to when low sulfur fuel is used, which makes it possible to prevent an erroneous diagnosis from being made.

Abstract: When a nitrogen oxide storage catalyst is being regenerated, the regeneration may be terminated for example as a result of a premature load change in the engine, which can lead to incomplete emptying of the storage catalyst. The residual filling level which remains in the catalyst following an incomplete regeneration of this nature is used as the starting value for calculation of the filling level during the next storage phase. After incomplete regeneration, the nitrogen oxide conversion rate is initially greater than would be expected, on account of the residual filling level. By taking this increased conversion rate into account when calculating the filling level during the storage phase, it is possible to further improve the accuracy of the calculation.
