In order to eliminate cost-intensive and highly complicated protection technology, the vehicles convey instantaneous position data through the data radio system to the monitoring facility. Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments of a reflective optical encoder system having at least three channels—two data channels and at least one index channel. The various configurations of reflective optical encoders disclosed herein permits very high resolution reflective optical encoders in small packages to be provided. In addition, the embodiments of the reflective optical encoder systems disclosed herein reduce problems associated with misalignment between code scales and light detectors, permit relatively simple electronic circuitry to be used to process outputs, and reduce manufacturing, assembly, integrated circuit and encoder costs. Methods of making and using such optical encoders are also disclosed.

Abstract: A method for logging a subsurface formation includes acquiring neutron capture data using a pulsed neutron tool at a plurality of locations along a borehole penetrating the subsurface formation, wherein the plurality of locations include a formation zone that contains water; comparing an apparent water salinity or an apparent water sigma value estimated from the neutron capture data acquired in the formation zone that contains water with a water salinity or water sigma value of a water sample from the subsurface formation to produce a calibration parameter for the neutron capture data; and correcting the neutron capture data, based on the calibration parameter, to produce corrected neutron capture data. The method may further include determining a water saturation from the corrected neutron capture data.

Abstract: An illumination method and device has a micro-wave powered plasma source contained by a windowless plasma containment structure. When incorporated as a photo-ionization device in an ion mobility spectrometer (IMS), the resolution of the spectrometer may be improved by operation at higher pressures and through selective ionization of elements and compounds. A gas flows into a discharge gap of a micro-wave ring resonator, but is restricted from flowing away by the windowless containment structure. When microwave power is supplied, the discharge gap is energized and a plasma initiated and sustained. Photons emitted by the plasma photo-ionize a sample gas. As the containment structure is windowless, the wavelength of the emitted radiation depends on the plasma-forming gas, not on the transmission characteristics of a window material. The range of substances in the sample that are ionized may be influenced by selecting the plasma-forming gas.

Abstract: In an ion implanter, a Faraday cup is utilized to receive an ion beam generated during ion source cleaning. The detected beam has an associated mass spectrum which indicates when the ion source cleaning process is complete. The mass spectrum results in a signal composed of a cleaning agent and the material comprising the ion source. This signal will rise over time as the ion source chamber is being cleaned and will level-off and remain constant once the deposits are etched away from the source chamber, thereby utilizing existing implant tools to determine endpoint detection during ion source cleaning.

Abstract: A method for examining a sample with a scanning charged particle beam imaging apparatus. First, an image area and a scan area are specified on a surface of the sample. Herein, the image area is entirely overlapped within the scan area. Next, the scan area is scanned by using a charged particle beam along a direction neither parallel nor perpendicular to an orientation of the scan area. It is possible that only a portion of the scan area overlapped with the image area is exposed to the charged particle beam. It also is possible that both the shape and the size of the image area are essentially similar with that of the scan area, such that the size of the area projected by the charged particle beam is almost equal to the size of the image area.
