Abstract: An improved welding helmet encloses a welders head and a portion of the neck. The helmet contains a fan, filter and thermoelectric cooling module to provide clean, cool air that reduces welding fume levels below suggested maximums and provides cool air to the welders head and neck area making their body feel cooler. Air exhausted from the helmet is captured and further utilized to significantly improve system efficiency by causing it to be in contact with the hot side heat sink that is a part of the thermoelectric cooling module assembly. The use of an external power source, including readily available welding power, is suggested as one option for supplying system power. An optional configuration is presented where an external container strapped to the welders body is employed containing the fan, air filter and thermoelectric cooling module and is connected to the helmet by cool air intake and exhaust air hoses.

Abstract: A spa control system that measures the flow of water through the heater of a spa and accurately reports water temperature in the spa using only one solid-state sensor in the heater. The working condition of the sensor is first determined by energizing the spa heater for a brief period of time, with the circulation pump de-energized, then quickly de-energizing the heater and watching for a heat rise at the sensor. A small rise is sufficient to proceed with the flow test. The flow rate is now determined by energizing the pump, with the heater still de-energized, and observing the rate at which the moving water cools the inside of the heater. If there is no circulation of water through the heater, the temperature of the sensor will continue to rise from the energy applied when the heater was briefly energized. This rise will be quite significant and a clear indication of a flow problem.

Abstract: An oscillating bed includes a stand or base with spaced apart, head and foot upright members. A body supporting member generally defines the length and width of the bed and has a foot end and a head end defining a longitudinal axis and longitudinally extending rims along opposed sides with a curved surface extending lateral to the longitudinal axis between the foot end and the head end. The head upright member is pivotally attached to the head end and the foot upright member is pivotally attached to the foot end and supports the body supporting member relative to the stand for oscillatory movement. A rotary motor and drive apparatus are coupled to the body supporting member and convert rotary motion of the motor to oscillatory movement of the body supporting member about the longitudinal axis.

Abstract: A bridge replacement method is disclosed. The bridge includes a deck supported by a pair of abutments, each abutment having wing walls. The deck is removed, footings are cast in holes dug behind each abutment and a pier is provided on each footing. Substantially parallel and coplanar cambered beams are provided. Each beam spans between and is supported by the piers. A brace assembly reinforces the beam camber. On each adjacent pair of beams, precast deck elements are placed, such that each element of said plurality spans the beam pair, to define at least transverse gaps between the elements and put the upper surfaces of the elements in compression in a transverse direction. The gaps are grouted. After grout curing, the brace is adjusted to reduce the beam camber and cause the upper surface of the elements to also be put into compression in a direction parallel to the beams.
