Abstract: An improved follower packing unit for a grease gun is disclosed. The unit includes a hollow annular body of elastomeric material having a front wall, an annular side wall and a rear wall defining a cavity in the body. Rigid front and back structural supports rigidly support the front and rear walls of the elastomeric seal. The elastomeric seal and the front and back structural supports are fastened together to prevent separation and to form a unitary follower structure movable as a unit on a follower rod. The annular side wall of the elastomeric seal is resiliently deformable under pressure in a radial direction for sealing tightly against an interior surface of the barrel of the grease gun or against the interior surface of a tubular cartridge loaded in the barrel of the gun.

Abstract: A viscous material processing system has a chamber to hold containers shaped as drums and has a plunger that presses into the interior of the drum to press out its highly viscous contents. The chamber has a hinged enclosure that has a hydraulically activated clamp that connects the two sides of the hinged enclosure that is controlled by a controller in a methodical way. The hydraulically activated clamp can be arranged in series and also has a relief cartridge and pressure sensor to prevent the drum from over pressurized. The processing system also has viscous material compounding system that receives and uses the material provided by the drums.

In addition, the accessory may act as a convenient storage location for items intentionally placed inside it. Also included are methods of using embodiments of the automobile accessory.

Abstract: A lifting mechanism for a toolbox contained in a truck box is provided. The lifting mechanism may include an outer truck box having a cover, an inner toolbox, and a tray that supports the inner box. A connecting link is coupled to the cover and to the tray for guiding the inner box between an elevated position and a lowered position. A lift assist, such as a gas spring, is coupled to the cover for lifting the inner box when the cover is opened and lowering the inner box when the cover is closed. In another embodiment, the lifting mechanism may comprise an L-shaped slotted link mounted to the cover and to the tray for guiding the inner box between the elevated position and the lowered position.

The engaging member is movably mounted to the bracket member and configured to selectively retain the battery to the bracket. Abstract: An attachment device for attaching a waste receptacle to a vehicle hitch. The device comprises of an elongated base that attaches to the hitch of the vehicle such that the base is perpendicular to the ground; an elongated sliding bar that is slidably disposed in the base near the bottom end such that it is parallel to the ground; and an elongated vertical component that is slidably disposed inside the base at the top end. The vertical component can slide up and down within the base. There is a T-shaped wing extending from the top end of the vertical component, and this wing is oriented generally parallel to the ground In addition, there is a gripping component pivotally attached to the wing, which grips the waste receptacle and an arc-shaped stabilizing arm that is pivotally attached to the sliding bar. This latter component helps stabilize the waste receptacle.

Abstract: The present invention relates to cargo carrier. The cargo carrier attaches to a vehicle and includes a platform, an upper frame, a plurality of vertical supports, a support sleeve and a support beam. The platform itself is constructed from a plurality of longitudinal support members and a plurality of cross members that interfit with each other via a channel design and/or a shoulder and notch system. The platform is then mounted to a vehicle by attaching the support sleeve and support beam to an existing vehicle hitch. Once attached, the platform may be loaded with heavy items for transport.

Abstract: A backpack includes a stabilizing and ventilating side bolster assembly coupled to a frame. The side bolster assembly includes breathable side bolsters received in breathable sleeves that cooperate with the frame to stabilize the backpack under load while providing improved ventilation between the backpack and a back side of a wearer of the backpack. The side bolsters may be customized for a particular environment, for a particular body type, or for particular loads to be carried in the backpack by changing the stiffness, density, material, dimensions or other aspects of the side bolsters.

Abstract: A trigger valve controlling device for a pneumatic nail gun includes a main air passageway, a valve sleeve and a main air valve opening. The valve sleeve separates the main air passageway into a front passageway, a middle chamber and a rear passageway. After hitting nails, a high pressure air in the trigger valve controlling device is capable of driving a hitting bar of the pneumatic nail gun to move upward to reset.

Abstract: A device for processing a belt strap for storing screws, in which the belt strap has a flat, U-shaped cross section that has a periphery that has a ratio of no more than 11:10 relative to the non-flanged belt. A guide device for the belt strap guides and holds the belt strap. The screws can be pressed out from the upper side of the belt strap. The guide device (3) has two guide slits (10) receiving the belt strap (2) in at least the region of the flanges (4), each slit being L-shaped in cross section and each having a contact surface (5) for the underside (6) of the belt (20) and a guide rib (11) extending across the flange (4).

Abstract: A surgical device is described herein that can be used to fire different types and sizes of disposable loading units. In a preferred embodiment, the device applies parallel rows of surgical fasteners to body tissue and concomitantly forms an incision between the rows of staples during an endoscopic or laparoscopic surgical procedure. The device can be utilized with disposable loading units configured to apply linear rows of staples measuring from about 15 mm in length to about 60 mm in length and can be used to fire disposable loading units containing surgical clips and individual staples.

The slot has a generally elongate rectangular shape when viewed in plan, with a length perpendicular to a scan direction, a width, parallel to the scan direction, associated with the relatively large cross section end, and a width, parallel to the scan direction, associated with the relatively small cross section end. The slot is configured in the portion of compliant material such that the relatively small cross-section end of the slot normally remains substantially closed, but locally opens sufficiently to dispense solder from the reservoir when under fluid pressure and locally unsupported by a workpiece. Flaps that form the ends of the closed pocket are separated by a fold line into two contiguous parts that are hinged to each other to allow expansion of the pocket. The pocket folder is fabricated from a one-piece blank of any suitable material such as paper, paperboard or plastic and has score lines on at least the back section to permit expansion when materials are inserted into the closed pocket.

The CDCS may also include the following functionalities: a duress dispensation system that allows the CDCS to activate an alarm and/or otherwise communicate with local police or security services during a robbery, a time-release system that effects a time-delayed dispensation functionality, and a user identification and authentication system for authenticating a user identity and determining eligibility of the user to access the currency control system.

Abstract: Systems and methods for the generation of user identification strings (UIS) used with multi-function operation vehicles are provided. In some embodiments, a system for activating a user operation vehicle can include an activation portal, a verifier and a UIS generator. The activation portal can request a base UIS and a vehicle code identifying a user operation vehicle be supplied by a user. Then, using an encryptor and a communications module, the activation portal can generate an encrypted base UIS and communicate the encrypted base UIS and the vehicle code to the verifier. The verifier can then authenticate the user and identify functions that are linked to the user operation vehicle. The UIS generator can include a decryptor and a UIS generation module to generate a unique account-specific UIS from the encrypted base UIS for each account linked to the user operation vehicle by modifying the base UIS.

If the wireless smart card reader is in the higher-power state upon receipt of the activation alert, the wireless smart card reader may remain in the higher-power state until a timeout period has expired. The wireless device may instruct the wireless smart card reader to enter the low-power state by sending a deactivation alert if the wireless device detects that communication of data between the wireless device and the wireless smart card reader is not likely to occur within a specified period of time.

Abstract: A paper-ballot voting system is disclosed in which voters can retain symbols printed adjacent to the particular candidates or ballot question positions that they mark. Including ballot serial numbers on the forms allows voters to check online the symbols recorded for their ballots while maintaining ballot secrecy. In case of dispute, a physical resolution procedure lets voters establish whether the recorded symbols are correct with respect to the actual physical ballots. Some examples allow forms to be obtained online and voted by physical or facsimile delivery. Voters who cannot read ballots or cannot mark ballots can nevertheless vote while maintaining ballot secrecy. The overall integrity of the outcome is provided transparently.

Abstract: A magnetic head is held by a side wall through a head fixing fitting so as to freely advance into and retreat from a card sliding groove. First and second head urging levers are swingably supported through a pin. In a standby state, the magnetic head is away from the card travel groove, and card engaging sections of the first and second head urging levers are staying in the card travel groove. When a magnetic card slides in a card sliding direction, the magnetic card makes contact with a card contact section to push the card contact section away from the card travel groove. This causes the first head urging lever to push out the magnetic head into the card travel groove so that the magnetic head makes contact with the magnetic card.

The system uses an optical imager to capture optical images of the target device and a microcontroller interconnected to the imager for processing the optical image to extract image information and verify that the contents of the image reflect the appropriate manufacturer or supplied indicia required by a host device. The decision reached by the microcontroller may be provided externally to a host device, thereby precluding or allowing use of the device, or provided directly to a user via know means, such as a visual display or audible output.

Abstract: A product and method for decoding information is provided. The product includes a sensor for detecting a plurality of marks on a surface to obtain associated mark location data, at least a first group of the plurality of marks being arranged on the surface so as to define an invisible raster with predetermined dimensions and marks in at least a second group of the plurality of marks are displaced from raster locations in a manner encoding information, and a processor for receiving from the sensor at least some of the mark location data, the processor determining, using the received mark location data, a position of the invisible raster on the surface, and decoding information based on positions of at least some of the marks in the second group of the plurality of marks relative to locations on the invisible raster.

Abstract: A signal is transmitted into a computer in response to an image on a display screen of the computer such that the computer operates in response to the signal; this includes moving a scanner in optical communication with the display screen such that the scanner detects an image (for example, a bar code) displayed on the screen and generates the signal in response. One or more computers may be used, and this may be used for vending a product or other purposes. With or without such scanning, a portion of a store environment may be displayed on a screen of a computer, including showing images of actual products for sale at the store, in which images of actual products are accessed via the computer from a database containing in-store images recorded in the store during a period of non-existent or minimal customer presence in the store. A vending system is also disclosed.

Abstract: One embodiment of a method for identifying a codeword as an erasure in a Quick Response code (QR code) captured by a bar code reader includes, identifying the scrambling mask used for encoding the data in the QR code. A location of the codeword in the QR code corresponds with a portion of the scrambling mask. The codeword comprises multiple codeword bits and the portion of the scrambling mask comprises multiple mask bits. The method further includes, generating an unscrambled codeword by performing a logical operation between each of the multiple codeword bits and each of the multiple mask bits, generating a reference matrix by applying the scrambling mask to a uniform matrix, and/or comparing the unscrambled codeword with the reference matrix to determine whether the codeword is the erasure.

Decoding the bar code includes segmenting the bar code into black tokens, white tokens and gray boundary pixels. Decoding the bar code also includes calculating a boundary position of each token with sub-pixel positional accuracy using intensity values of pixels in a boundary region.

The amount of exposure for the photodetector array in the barcode scanner is set automatically based on the weight for each sub-region in the multiple sub-regions. In some embodiments, the predetermined image area are repartitioned into new multiple sub-regions based on the image captured, and the amount of exposure for the photodetector array in the barcode scanner is set automatically based on the weight for each sub-region in the new multiple sub-regions.

Abstract: There is described a data collection device that can incorporate an encoded information reading unit that can operate within a system including an access point that is wireline connected to a server. The encoded information reading unit can include at least one of a bar code reading unit, an RFID tag reading unit and a credit/debit card reading unit. Further incorporated in the data collection device can be dynamic access module. The dynamic access communication module enables the data collection device to participate in a self organized network that supports multi-hop data packet transmissions between data collection devices and which further enables the device to transmit data received from a peer device to the system access point.

Abstract: A method for receiving and presenting user-generated designs and sets of terms for portable consumer devices. The method provides for allowing a first person to create a customized design for a portable consumer device, and share the design with other consumers via a host site. Similarly, the method provides for allowing a first person to create and share a customized set of terms for the portable consumer device. Methods for receiving and distributing feedback for customized designs and sets of terms are included.

Abstract: A storage device contains a smart-card device and a memory device, both of which are accessed though a controller. The storage device may be used in the same manner as a conventional smart-card device, or it may be used to store a relatively large amount of data in various partitions corresponding to the protection level of the data stored therein. The smart-card device stores critical security parameters that are provided to the controller to protect access to some or all of the partitions of the memory device. A host connected to the controller issues commands, and the controller analyzes the commands and responds to them in various ways depending upon the nature of the command. In particular, depending upon the nature of the command, the controller may either pass the command to the smart-card device, or ignore the command either indefinitely or until a predetermined event has occurred.

It is determined whether or not a printer ID received by a RFID tag for a printer of a printer via radio communication from a mobile terminal matches a printer ID of the printer of itself, and when the printer ID matches, printing data received by the RFID tag for a printer via radio communication from the mobile terminal is stored in a memory part of the RFID tag for a printer and then, the printing data is transmitted to a printer main body through a reader from the RFID tag for a printer and printed by a print head of the printer main body.

Abstract: A system and technique is disclosed for manufacturing a plurality of financial transaction cards substantially simultaneously even though their respective parameters, including the format of data in a readable/writable medium thereon, may vary from card to card. A surface of the financial transaction card contains terms and conditions and graphics, a writable/readable medium for storing variable data and a two-dimensional data matrix. The writable/readable medium may be implemented with a strip of magnetic material applied to the surface of the card, a smart chip carried on the card substrate, a two dimensional data matrix such as a barcode printed on the surface of the card such or any combination thereof. The variable data may be recorded on the writable/readable medium and may include an identifier which uniquely identifies the gift card from all other gift cards in the production set.

An adhesive resin layer having the same shape as the antenna pattern shape of the electroconductive layer is provided on the other face of the electroconductive layer. The adhesive resin layer is temporarily bonded in separable manner onto a release paper formed from paper or a plastic base material.

Abstract: A dry-fire protection system and method. The dry-fire protection system includes a tank, a heating element, a powered electrode, a sensor, and a microcircuit. The heating element and the powered electrode are positioned in the tank, the powered electrode being positioned above the heating element. The powered electrode includes an electrode wire and a connector having an electrical connector coupled to the electrode wire, but electrically isolated from the tank, and a fastener for coupling the powered electrode to the tank. The sensor detects an electrical characteristic of a circuit formed by the tank, the powered electrode, and water in the tank. The microcircuit determines if a possible dry-fire condition exists based on a signal received from the sensor.

Abstract: A nozzle arrangement for generating a water jet has a nozzle plate having a nozzle opening. In order for the nozzle arrangement to be able to generate a water jet that provides improved utilization as a light guide also in bodies of water with wave motion and that is constructively simple and producible in an inexpensive way, it has a nozzle sleeve that surrounds the nozzle opening at least partially and is arranged on the nozzle plate and is provided with an inner sleeve wall surface that surrounds a water jet exiting from the nozzle opening at a safety spacing. The safety spacing prevents unwanted contact with the water jet.
