Abstract: An image capturing apparatus that uses an image sensor having pixels for capturing an image and pixels for detecting a phase difference. If, in the case where it is determined that it is necessary to restart focus detection during recording of a moving image, an opening diameter of an aperture is not an opening diameter at which phase-difference detection type AF using the pixels for detecting a phase difference can be performed, the aperture is changed to an opening diameter at which phase-difference detection type AF can be performed during focus detection. The compensator selectively applies the needed amount of compensation to the video signal according to the indicated motion to apply less of the needed compensation where there is less motion, over at least some of the range of possible motions. This can reduce the drive levels at least where the non uniformities are less visible because of the motion in the video. The reduced drive levels can lead to less ageing and thus prolong display life. The amounts of needed compensation can be predicted or determined from measured outputs of pixels of the display.

As the start pulse (SP) rises, synchronized with the rise of clock signals (CK, CKB), the sampling pulses (sam) fall off sequentially, delayed by half the period of the clock signals (CK, CKB) for every step. As a result, the sampling pulses (sam) with a pulse width longer than one period of the clock signals (CK, CKB) are generated.
