Abstract: A cutting element include a substrate and a diamond compact including at least two polycrystalline diamond portions separated by at least one metal carbide foil portion. The cutting element is made by placing diamond powder in a reaction container, placing a thin metal layer in the reaction container above or around the diamond powder and binder, placing additional diamond powder in the reaction container above or around the thin metal layer, and placing a pre-sintered substrate containing binder into the reaction container above all diamond powder and thin metal layer components. The assembled reaction container is put into a reactor and is subjected to a high-temperature high-pressure sintering process. The binder in the pre-sintered substrate sweeps through to sinter the first diamond portion, and then reacts with the thin metal layer to form a metal carbide, and then the binder continues to sweep through to sinter the second diamond portion.

Abstract: Work crews temporarily operating in remote areas can be subject to dangers such as tornados, hurricanes and explosive blast waves. A re-deployable mobile aboveground protective shelter suitable for use in such environments utilizes retractable stabilizing arms and/or structures that leverage air pressure differential to resist uplift, overturning and sliding. Because the protective shelter does not rely exclusively upon excessive weight to counter wind forces, the protective shelter can be quickly, easily and inexpensively redeployed to new sites.

Abstract: An insulated metal building panel (100) with integrated un-glazed solar thermal collectors includes an outer metal skin (102) which provides the finished exterior surface, an insulating core (108) which provides the building insulation, an inner metal skin (104) which provides an interior finished surface, and a plurality of fluid conduits (110) and manifolds (112) between the interior and exterior skins, embedded in the core. The conduits circulate a fluid capable of heat transfer. The panels can also include photovoltaic cells (120) mounted to the outer skin. The panels can yield heat as well as gain heat, and can therefore be used as integral parts of hydronic heating and cooling systems. In different embodiments, the panels are suitable for use as floors, walls, and roofs of buildings. The panels minimize the number of components which must be field-assembled, and can provide a rapidly erected, weather-resistant, building envelope.

Continuous helical wire groups in three or six directions having a designated angle (for example, 60 degrees or 90 degrees) with respect to one another in a space cross and are then assembled, and thus new truss-shaped three-dimensional lattice truss structures having high strength and stiffness to weight ratio and a large surface area and method of mass-producing the structures at low costs are provided. The three-dimensional porous light-weight structures are manufactured by a method in which helical wires are three-dimensionally assembled through a continuous process rather than a method in which net-shaped wires are simply woven and stacked, and thus have a configuration similar to the ideal hexahedron truss, Octet truss, or truss in which regular octahedrons and cuboctahedrons are combined, thereby having excellent mechanical properties or thermal or aerodynamic properties.

This implementation also includes a fan assembly that is configured to impart rotational force on air to move the air from outside the enclosure to inside the enclosure and around the electronic components. The fan assembly is further configured to separate contaminants from the air based upon differences in density between the contaminants and the air.

Abstract: The invention is separator for separating a fluid flow of gas with droplets (G, L), comprising an inlet (10) for the gas to be separated to a rotor (4) with a mesh (5) for coalescing the droplets (L) and releasing coalesced liquid (L?) from a peripheral part (50) of the rotor (4). Novel features of the separator is that—the mesh (5) generally forms an axial passage for said gas (G) from the inlet (10), through said rotor (4), to an outlet (20) for liquid depleted gas (G?), and—the rotor (4) with the mesh (5) is arranged for transporting the coalesced liquid (L?) laterally out of the axial passage to a wall (6) arranged for receiving the coalesced liquid (L?).

Abstract: An oil separator has a container main body and an flow channel. A partition wall member faces the opening of the flow channel and extends along a wall of the container main body. An upper end member seals the space between the upper end of the partition wall member and the container main body. A side end member seals a space between one side end of the partition wall member and the wall of the container main body. A gap between the partition wall member and the wall of the container main body is narrower than an inner diameter of the flow channel and is largest at an open side end. An outer circumference of the partition wall member is longer than half of the inner diameter of the flow channel and shorter than half of the circumferential length of the inner wall of the container main body.

Abstract: A filter recognition system for use with an air purifier is provided. The air filter assembly or filter clip includes identification pins/taps which are read by the air purifier to determine the filter type. The filter recognition system adjusts the motor parameter based on the filter type. Additionally, the filter recognition system adjusts the filter timer to automatically communicate to a user the recommended time to change the filter based on the identified filter type.

Abstract: A method of forming a fluid separation filter for use in a fluid separation device includes aligning a series of fluid separation or drying fibers (102) and fixing them together using a self-adhesive and electrically conductive tape (116) or by weaving copper threads between them. The connected fibers then form a mat and a strip of potting sealant (112) may be added, if required, along the top and bottom of the fibers. The mat may then be rolled to form a bundle of fibers.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for reducing residual torque in singles ring yarns, achieved by imparting two separate false twisting points on the traveling strand of fibers (or yarn) after the strand exits from the spinning triangle with a proper ratio between the belt speed and the strand feeding speed. In addition to reducing the residual torque, this double false twist technique also reduces yarn hairiness to the same level as achieved by more expensive compact spinning devices, reduces yarn twist by more than 20% and significantly enhances yarn and fabric softness. Furthermore, by combining the double false twist technique with a compact spinning device, the numbers of neps, thick and thin places are significantly reduced to produce high-quality yarns and fine-count yarns.

Abstract: The flow through the core of a hybrid pulse detonation combustion system is passed through a compressor and then separated into a primary flow, that passes directly to the combustor, and a bypass flow, which is routed to a portion of the system to be used to cool components of the system. The bypass includes a pump that raises the pressure of the bypass flow sufficient to deliver it to downstream stations of the engine that contain combustion products that are at a higher pressure than the compressor exit.
