Publication number: 20130025349Abstract: A leak detector contains a pump that withdraws gas from a volume into which a tracer gas is leaking. The volume may also contain small amounts of air or other gas in addition to the tracer gas. Downstream from the pump, a flow restriction creates a back pressure between this restriction and the outlet of the pump, the back pressure being determined by the pressure in the test volume, the pumping speed, and the nature of the flow restriction. The flow restriction may be fixed, such as an orifice or a section of a capillary tube, or it may be variable, such as a needle valve. In many cases, the back pressure may be adjusted to approximately one atmosphere, allowing the use there of various conventional gas sensors that are designed to operate at one atmosphere. Publication number: 20130025351Abstract: A master component is provided for use in checking for any variation in the performance of a gas turbine test facility. The master component replaces a standard component, which is typically a turbine blade, vane or segment in the test facility. The master component is attached to the test facility in the same manner as the standard component. The flow rate through the master component is substantially the same as the flow rate through the standard component for a given inlet and outlet temperature and pressure. The flow through the master component is simpler than the flow through the standard component. This means that the flow through the master component is less likely to vary over time. As such, the master component is more suitable for use in checking for any variation in the performance of a test facility.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 8, 2012Publication date: January 31, 2013Applicant: ROLLS-ROYCE PLCInventors: Darren L. Publication number: 20130025360Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method for assessing damages of keratin fibers using a mesh. Said methods are useful for assessing the degree of damages of keratin fibers and also to compare the damages of fibers of different origin, different portions of fibers and/or fibers treated with different cosmetic, chemical and/or mechanical treatments. Said methods are also useful for supporting advertising claims about the efficacy of a treatment.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 27, 2012Publication date: January 31, 2013Inventor: Naohiro MORITA

Publication number: 20130025361Abstract: A wind current indicator device is provided for use in assisting in the hunting of wild game animals and includes a thin strand of fiber having a lightweight feather affixed at a first end and a swivel member affixed to opposite second end. The swivel member includes two rotating loops on opposite sides, wherein the first rotating loop is secured to the strand of fiber while the second rotating loop is secured to a second strand of fiber that is adapted for attachment to an object, such as the barrel of a rifle. In operation, wind currents lift and carry the feather, pulling the strand taut, indicating the direction of the wind current. Each of the rotating loops independently pivots and rotates in response to changes in wind current direction, thereby avoiding twisting and entanglement of either strand portion.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 30, 2012Publication date: January 31, 2013Inventor: Richard Ostrander

Publication number: 20130025363Abstract: To reduce a signal variation of a bridge circuit connected with a temperature sensing resistor that is caused by a strain even when the strain is generated at a diaphragm portion of a substrate installed with a heater resistor and the temperature sensing resistor. In a thermal type flow rate resistor including a substrate, a diaphragm 13 formed at the substrate, and a heat generating resistor 2 and temperature detecting resistors 7 through 10 formed on the diaphragm for detecting a flow rate of a measured fluid by heating the heat generating resistor, strain detecting resistors 11 and 12 are formed on an upstream side and on a downstream side of a flow of the measured fluid relative to the heat generating resistor on the diaphragm, an amount of a strain generated on the diaphragm is detected by the strain detecting resistors, and a flow rate signal detected by the heat generating resistor and the temperature detecting resistors is compensated for the strain based on the detected amount of the strain.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 1, 2011Publication date: January 31, 2013Applicant: Hitachi Automotive Systems, Ltd.Inventors: Ryo Sato, Keiji Hanzawa

Publication number: 20130025364Abstract: Apparatus and methods are disclosed to measure airflow within a chassis-cooling pathway of an appliance. The rate of airflow is determined based on the differential heating among a pair of sensor devices, such as thermistors, transistors, diodes or resistive thermal devices operating at distinctly different power levels. The appliance utilizes the calculated airflow rate to perform safety-related tasks, such as de-energizing heating elements when low or no airflow is detected.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 27, 2011Publication date: January 31, 2013Inventor: James Carter Bach
