Abstract: Various embodiments are described herein for a system and method for calibrating a display device to eliminate distortions due to various components such as one or more of lenses, mirrors, projection geometry, lateral chromatic aberration and color misalignment, and color and brightness non-uniformity. Calibration for distortions that vary over time is also addressed. Sensing devices coupled to processors can be used to sense display characteristics, which are then used to compute distortion data, and generate pre-compensating maps to correct for display distortions.

Abstract: The invention concerns image processing that includes the estimation of the optical depths of points in image data in order to enhance the image data. In particular but not limited to, from the optical depth noise present in the image due to aerosol in the scene, such as fog or haze, can be reduced. The invention concerns determining.a first cost for each point independently based on a determined metric (60) and then a second cost based on an expected correlation in neighbouring points (70). The two costs are then optimized (80) to determine an estimated optical depth for each point (80) that is then used to reduce the effect of aerosol in the image (84). Applications of the invention include, but is not limited to, surveillance systems so that objects in the scene of the image can be better identified once the image data has been enhanced to reduce the estimated noise. Aspects of the invention include a method, software, computer apparatus and a field programmable gate array.

  • Publication number: 20130141595
Abstract: A method for detecting dead pixels obtains a downsampling set formed by a plurality of sample pixels by downsampling a to-be-tested image, and computes a moving average for each sample pixel to determine whether the sample pixel is a dead pixel candidate. If so, all pixels in a neighborhood of the dead pixel candidate are determined as to-be-detected pixels. For each to-be-detected pixel, a compensated value and a weighted average under a mask are estimated. A hypothetic dead pixel value is obtained by comparing an original pixel value of each to-be-detected pixel and the moving average of the dead pixel candidate. Whether the to-be-detected pixel is a dead pixel is determined by using the original pixel value, the compensated value, the weighted average and the hypothetic dead pixel value.

Abstract: Autofocusing is performed in response to a capturing object images upon which multiple depth estimation techniques are applied to yield a plurality of iterations. An iteration from one of these depth estimation techniques is selected based on results, such as based on largest absolute value, and checked. If the iteration fails the check, another of the iterations is selected and tested. Once a valid iteration is found, additional focus positions are executed in like manner from which an accurate focus position is determined.
