Publication number: 20130141724Abstract: The present invention is directed to a process for predicting the tint strength of a pigmented coating composition, such as automotive OEM or refinish paint, on a real time basis while it is being made. The tint strength of a coating resulting from a layer, obtained by adding a reference binder to the coating composition, is measured. The process is repeated by subjecting the coating compositions to successive grinding intervals. The tint strength vs. reflectance is plotted on a graph and then by using a curve fitting equation, a tint strength prediction curve is obtained. By measuring the reflectance of a wet layer of a target coating composition, the tint strength of that target coating composition can then be predicted by using the tint strength prediction curve. The process is most useful during the manufacture of coating compositions, such as automotive OEM and refinishes paints.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 1, 2012Publication date: June 6, 2013Applicant: E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS AND COMPANYInventor: E I Du Pont De Nemours And Company

Publication number: 20130141726Abstract: The invention relates to a sensing device (1) for detecting a substance (3) in a fluid (6), wherein the sensing device (1) comprises a sensing region (2) for being used for generating a sensing signal depending on the substance, a reference region (4) for being used for providing a reference signal, and a reference element (5) covering the reference region (4). The reference element (5) is adapted to shield the reference region (4) from the substance (3) and to allow the fluid (6) to penetrate the reference element (5). This reduces the influence of the reference signal by the substance (3) and, since the reference element (5) is adapted to allow the fluid (6) to penetrate the reference element (5), differences regarding properties of the fluid (6) at the sensing region (2) and of the reference element (5) at the reference region (4) can be reduced. This reduction leads to an improved reference signal, which can be used, for example, for correcting the sensing signal.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 26, 2011Publication date: June 6, 2013Applicant: KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS ELECTRONICS N.V.Inventors: Ron Martinus Laurentius Van Lieshout, Roel Penterman

A delta flop is determined by subtracting from the flop at the start from that after the desired time interval and a degree of mottling of a coating resulting from the layer is visually assessed. The process is repeated with varying amounts of one or more rheology additives added to the composition and the degree of mottling vs. delta flop is plotted on a graph and then by using a curve fitting equation, a mottling prediction curve is obtained. By measuring the delta flop of a wet layer of a target coating composition, the degree of mottling in the target coating composition can then be predicted by using the mottling prediction curve.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 6, 2012Publication date: June 6, 2013Applicant: E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS AND COMPANYInventor: E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS AND COMPANY

Publication number: 20130141729Abstract: A method detects an acceleration. The method includes providing a spatial mode filter positioned such that light emitted from the spatial mode filter is reflected by at least a portion of a reflective surface. The spatial mode filter and the portion of the reflective surface form an optical resonator having an optical resonance with a resonance lineshape. The method further includes emitting light from the spatial mode filter and irradiating the portion of the reflective surface. Publication number: 20130141730Abstract: An illumination system for a lithographic or inspection apparatus. A plurality of optical waveguides transmit radiation from the illumination source to an output. A switching system enables selective control of one or more subsets of the optical waveguides. An inspection method uses an illumination system and inspection and lithographic apparatuses comprise an illumination system. In one example, the optical waveguides and switching system are replaced by a plurality of parallel optical bandpass filter elements. The optical bandpass filter elements each only transmit a predetermined wavelength or a band of wavelengths of radiation. At least two of the parallel optical bandpass filter elements each being operable to transmit a different wavelength or band of wavelengths.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 6, 2012Publication date: June 6, 2013Applicant: ASML Netherlands B.V.Inventor: Richard QUINTANILHA

Publication number: 20130141733Abstract: An apparatus comprising an encoded pressure signal propagating in a fluid flowing in a conduit. An optical fiber measurement element has a reflector on one end and is disposed around at least a portion of the conduit. A light source injects a second optical signal and a third optical signal propagating in first and second optical fibers, respectively. A delay section is disposed in the second optical fiber. The second optical signal and the third optical signal are directed into the optical fiber measurement element and are reflected back from the reflective end such that at least a portion of the reflected second and third optical signals propagate through the second and first optical fibers respectively to an optical detector. The optical detector senses an interference between the reflected optical signals and outputs a first signal related thereto.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 3, 2013Publication date: June 6, 2013Applicant: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Ronald L Spross, Paul F Rodney, Neal G Skinner, James H Dudley, John L Maida, Jr.

Publication number: 20130141736Abstract: Two or more laser positioning systems are used to position a moving object. The system includes a laser, mirror or photodiodes sensor on three different rotation units. The unit includes two fine rotation and two coarse rotation stages. By rotating fine stages, the laser on the first rotation unit constantly emits laser beam to a mirror on the second rotation unit which is rigidly mounted on the moving object, the mirror constantly reflects laser beam onto a photodiodes sensor on the third rotation unit. The amount of rotations of fine stages and the geometry among laser, mirror and sensor gives precisely the position of the moving object. After fine rotation stages nearly reach their rotation limit, they return to their starting positions by rotating the coarse rotation stages. The fine stages in different laser positioning systems work alternatively to position a moving object in high precision.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 1, 2011Publication date: June 6, 2013Inventor: Mingwu Bai
