Abstract: An example power generation system includes a vapor generator, a turbine, a separator and a pump. In the separator, the multiple components of the working fluid are separated from each other and sent to separate condensers. Each of the separate condensers is configured for condensing a single component of the working fluid. Once each of the components condense back into a liquid form they are recombined and exhausted to a pump that in turn drives the working fluid back to the vapor generator.

Abstract: A power generation system includes a non-azeotropic working fluid mixture and a Rankine cycle system. The Rankine cycle system includes a turbine generator that is driven by vapor of the first working fluid mixture, and a condenser that exchanges thermal energy between the vapor received from the turbine generator and a cooling medium. The working fluid mixture is characterized by a condenser temperature glide during phase change between approximately five degrees and thirty degrees Kelvin, a condensing pressure between approximately one tenth of one percent and eleven percent of a critical pressure of the working fluid mixture, and a condenser bubble point temperature between approximately one degree and nine degrees Kelvin greater than a temperature at which the cooling medium is received by the condenser.

Abstract: A power generation system includes a first vessel having a generally constant volume and a second vessel having a variable volume. Thermal energy is supplied to an ideal gas within the first vessel in order to raise its temperature and pressure. The thermally compressed gas is then released into, and expands the volume of, the second vessel. The expanding volume of the second vessel expands raises a mass and/or strains an elastic member, thus storing gravitational and/or elastic potential energy. This stored potential energy can be released on demand by evacuating the second vessel, typically into a third vessel, and used to power a generator. Preferably, the potential energy is used to coupled to the generator using a planetary gear drive, such that a relatively small number of input rotations yields a relatively large number of output rotations.

A swing-mode selector switch 77 which is manually operated switches between a hydraulic/electric combined swing mode for driving the swing structure by driving both the electric motor and a hydraulic motor and a hydraulic solo swing mode for driving the swing structure by driving only the hydraulic motor. For a normal operation, the swing mode is initially set in the hydraulic/electric combined swing mode. For a specific operation, the operator switches the swing-mode selector switch from a hydraulic/electric combined swing position to a hydraulic solo swing position.

Abstract: A combustor in a gas turbine engine has a wall which forms a gap with an outer nozzle guide vane platform. A closure mechanism is operable to open or close the gap. Opening of the gap, for example during cruise conditions, reduces the mass flow rate of air through an open end of the combustor, so enriching the air fuel ratio and improving flame stability and combustion efficiency. Under high power conditions, the gap is closed, causing an increase in air flow rate through the open end to achieve a lean burn air fuel ratio when the fuel flow rate is increased.
