Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are disclosed that target content to a subscriber. One such device has a processor communicating with memory. The processor receives a library of content associated with a demographic and stores the library in memory. The processor receives an instruction to retrieve particular content from the library of content and inserts the particular content in an insertion slot.

Abstract: A system includes a cache, coupled to a receiver, to store received content and advertisements. An interface in the receiver detects the occurrence of an advantageous condition during the play of content retrieved from the cache. The receiver locates one or more advertisements in the cache, and enables the display of a user interface in place of the content so long as the advantageous condition is detected. The user interface includes selectable indicia of the located advertisements and an indicia of the content. The interface is adapted to locate one or more advertisements using markers that are inserted into the content by the interface, and pointers to the one or more advertisements associated with the markers, the pointers having a stored association to the markers.

Abstract: A method for delivering targeted advertisement data to opt-in subscribers in an internet protocol television (IPTV) system is disclosed, the system comprising selecting an advertising target group of opt-in IPTV subscribers based on an advertiser's advertising target request; and multicasting an advertisement from an IPTV advertising server to the advertising target group. A system for performing the method is disclosed.

Abstract: The determination of similarities between users in an online entertainment environment is disclosed. For example, one disclosed embodiment comprises a method of operating an entertainment server, wherein the method includes receiving user information that comprises user demographic information and user media selection information from each user of a plurality of users. For a current user, a plurality of similarity values are determined that each quantifies a similarity of the current user to another user based upon similarities between the user information of the current user and the user information of the other user. Then, the method comprises determining a list of other users to present to the current user based upon the similarity values determined, and sending the list of other users to the current user.

Abstract: In a local information broadcast system according to the present invention, a content distribution center distributes broadcast contents of local information to broadcast devices arranged in a service area via a master station. Each of the broadcast devices receives the distributed contents by a communication unit, stores the contents in a storage unit and cyclically outputs the stored contents by an output unit, converts the contents into broadcast signals in a transmission system of a digital broadcast and broadcasts the broadcast signals to the service area by a transmission unit, and provides a receiving terminal capable of receiving digital broadcast in the service area of the local information.

Abstract: Systems and methods for enhanced sports-related media content access and display are provided. An intelligent tuning module for multi-tuner systems may designate one sporting event as a primary sporting event and another sporting event as a secondary sporting event. A primary tuner may tune the primary event whenever possible and a secondary tuner may tune the secondary event whenever possible. Sporting events may be assigned user profile scores and tuned away from in reverse priority order. An interactive scoreboard may also be displayed with various game status and alert icons. The interactive scoreboard may allow a viewer to quickly tune between high-interest sporting events. Sports-specific features, such as wagering and fantasy league support, are also provided.

Abstract: Systems and methods for improving or suggesting alternatives to content surfing are provided. When it is detected that a user wishes to surf, a pipeline tuning sequence is implemented where by storing one or more frames of a first content selection to the user equipment and acquiring a subsequent content selection while concurrently displaying the previously stored one or more frames. Content suggestions, program listing grids, media guidance application and tuning hints, advertisements, digital audio, and live video may also be presented to user while content surfing. In some embodiments, content surf landing channels may be anticipated based on user history, user profiles, or any other suitable information. In some embodiments, thumbnails of the user's recently tuned, or paused on, content are displayed to the user while content surfing. In multiple tuner systems, more than one thumbnail may be displayed in full motion video.

Abstract: A system for displaying information may include memory, one or more processors, and one or more modules stored in memory. The one or more modules are configured for execution by the one or more processors and may include instructions for: presenting a subset of a collection of data on a first grid having a first axis corresponding to units of time and a second axis, the collection of data comprising data representing time-bounded events; presenting a second grid having, first and second axes corresponding to the first and second axes of the first grid, the second grid corresponding to a larger portion of the collection of data than the subset presented on the first grid; and presenting a user moveable window for selecting a portion of the second grid, and selecting the subset presented on the first grid in accordance with a current position of the window.

Abstract: According to an aspect, there is provided a digital television (DTV) data stream including program and system information protocol (PSIP) data associated with content of the DTV data stream, the PSIP data including a virtual channel table (VCT) and an event information table (EIT), the EIT comprising: a source identification field identifying a source of an associated event in a DTV data stream; an event identification field indicating an identification of the event; a start time field indicating a star time of the event; a title field indicating a title of the event; and a descriptor comprising: a descriptor tag identifying the descriptor as a genre descriptor, a descriptor length indicating a total length of the descriptor; and at least one category code for an associated event in a DTV data stream, each category code specifying genre, program type, or category information of the associated event, wherein the at least one category code specifies at least one of a set of basic categories.

Abstract: The present invention provides a tuning scheme for coordinating schedule information and programs received from multiple sources (26, 28, 30 and 34). In the preferred embodiment, an identifier associated with the program's channel (52) is used to identify a source device (26, 28, 30 or 34). When a user selects a program (60 or 62) listed in displayed schedule information (50), the system (10) reads the source identifier attached to the program's channel (52). The system (10) then carries out an automatic switching/tuning such that the required source device (26, 28, 30 or 34) is input to the destination device (22), and a tuner is then tuned to the selected program's channel (52).

Abstract: A digital television (DTV) signal for use in a DTV receiver includes an extended text table (ETT) which includes a header and a message body. The header includes a table identification extension field which serves to establish uniqueness of the ETT, and the message includes an extended text message (ETM). If the ETT is an event ETT, the table ID extension field includes an event identification which specifies an identification number of an event associated with the ETT. On the other hand, if the ETT is a channel ETT, the table identification extension field includes a source identification which specifies a programming source of a virtual channel associated with the ETT. A section-filtering unit included in the DTV receiver is able to use table identification extension fields of a plurality of ETTs for section-filtering a pertinent event or channel ETT from the ETTs.

Abstract: Provided are apparatuses and methods for providing a program or service transmission with associated ESG fragment(s) to a receiver within a designated location. Parameter, elements or sub-elements may be included in a service guide or other data fragment indicating the location within which the program, service and corresponding ESG fragment(s) may be broadcast. For example, a Cell ID may be indicated as an element or sub-element in an ESG fragment to indicate the location in which a program or service may be broadcast. Also, Cell IDs may be grouped to indicate a larger region in which to broadcast a program or service and corresponding ESG fragment(s) in a service guide.

Abstract: A wireless communication device retrieves a continuous stream of data by receiving a request for retrieval of content from a remote server, retrieving data of the requested content over a first radio access technology (RAT) interface and connection, and determining if the data retrieved meets a content playback threshold. When the retrieved data does not to meet the content playback threshold, the device activates a second RAT interface for retrieval of data of the requested content over a second RAT connection. The first and second RAT interfaces simultaneously retrieve part of the requested content during a multipath time period, which part is divided into at least a first portion for retrieval over the first RAT connection and a second portion for retrieval over the second RAT connection and which first and second portions are selected such that their retrieval is estimated to meet the content playback threshold.

The mobile device includes: a display; a user input receiving unit which receives input by a user; a storage unit; a communication unit which communicates with an external AV device via a network; and a controller which receives UI information of the AV device from the AV device through the communication unit to display the UI information on the display, controls the storage unit to store a user setup value of the AV device according to the input of the user, and controls the communication unit to transmit the user setup value to the AV device when the communication unit starts communicating with the AV device.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides an apparatus, method, and computer programs for obtaining content from a communications network. One aspect of the disclosure includes: storing an aggregator on a Set Top Box (STB) associated with a television set, wherein the aggregator is adapted to obtain content corresponding to a plurality of feeds from a communications network; displaying the plurality of feeds on the television set in response to a first input received by the STB; accepting at the STB a selection of at least one feed from the plurality of feeds; obtaining content from the communications network corresponding to the selected at least one feed; and providing the obtained content for display on the television set.

Abstract: A method, program product and system are provided to enable a new software interface and program to manage DVR content including methods for separating storage partitions, e.g. by user and also on a shared basis on local media. The partitions may either be logical or physical partitions and may be allocated differently based on the user. In an exemplary illustration, a shared partition/buffer is used for multiple users who may each initiate the recording of various shows or recordings which may be shared by other users. The interactive shared partition is used to allow multi-room coordination, messaging, content cloning, user-to-user notifications, and specific user to user messaging facilities, with the capability of setting notifications for other parties on the addition/removal of content, “pushing” recommendations of shows to other users of a shared DVR system, and allowing messages to be left to other users regarding content.

Abstract: Distribution of contents through a network with reduced load on a server is enabled. Moreover, distribution with higher security is enabled. A server side connected to a predetermined network has a content database for managing data related to contents that can be distributed, a content cluster list containing data related to division of each content into clusters, and a cluster database related to an address where each cluster is stored. A device side that can be connected to the server saves at least a part of clusters of a received content by each cluster formed by dividing the content, and transfers a predetermined cluster saved by content saving processing to an indicated address in response to a request for transfer of a cluster of the received content.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method including the steps of maintaining, by a computer system including at least one computer, a database in which is stored first data related to identification of one or more works and second data related to information corresponding to each of the one or more works as identified by the first data. Extracted features of a work to be identified are obtained. The work is identified by comparing the extracted features of the work with the first data in the database using a non-exhaustive neighbor search. The information corresponding to the identified work is determined based on the second data in the database. The determined information is associated with the identified work.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for client-side compositing of video streams. The method includes receiving, by the video display device, a multiplexed data stream from a remote video server. The multiplexed data stream includes substreams, where the substreams includes a descriptor substream, at least one media substream, and a compositing-instruction substream. The method further includes demultiplexing, by the video display device, the multiplexed data stream into the substreams according to the descriptor substream and displaying, by the video display device, the at least one media substream on a display screen according to the compositing-instruction substream, where the compositing-instruction substream includes instructions on a composition of the at least one media substream.

Abstract: Embodiments provide for outputting video and allowing a user to switch between different audio streams in a synchronous manner without impacting the timeline of the audio presentation. The audio and video streams may be directed to a single sporting event. For example, a user can view video associated with a national television broadcast of a baseball game, and switch between the audio from the national broadcast and the audio from the radio broadcast. Similarly, the user can view video associated with a local television broadcast, and switch between the audio from the national, regional, and/or radio broadcast. As any sport fan would appreciate, such flexibility enables users to watch the video with, e.g., the best quality and camera angle, while at the same time listening to the audio or broadcaster they find the most appealing.

Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a method for detecting a viewing apparatus, and causing a presentation device to present a media program in a time division multiplexed (TDM) scheme or a space division multiplexing (SDM) scheme responsive to said detection, wherein the viewing apparatus is configured to the TDM or SDM schemes to enable viewing of the media program. Other embodiments are disclosed and contemplated.

Abstract: Systems and methods for navigating hypermedia using multiple coordinated input/output device sets. Disclosed systems and methods allow a user and/or an author to control what resources are presented on which device sets (whether they are integrated or not), and provide for coordinating browsing activities to enable such a user interface to be employed across multiple independent systems. Disclosed systems and methods also support new and enriched aspects and applications of hypermedia browsing and related business activities.

Abstract: A request is received to install control rules before having received a corresponding QoS Authorization, especially where the QoS Authorization requires a prior reservation of resources. The request for a bearer resource is pre-authorized before having received a QoS authorization for said request, by receiving a request for a bearer resource; determining that a QoS authorization has, not been received yet; pre-authorizing said request for the bearer resource by installing initial control rules; and updating the previously installed initial control rules with final control rules upon receipt of the QoS authorization. This pre-authorization and the submission of initial control rules are carried out from a PCRF server towards a PCEF device, before having received the QoS authorization. In particular, the pre-authorization may be triggered from a P-CSCF at the originating or destination side, or at both.

Abstract: A sandbox tool can cooperate with components of a secure operating system to create an isolated execution environment for accessing content without exposing other processes and resources of the computing system to the untrusted content. The sandbox tool can create the isolated execution environment with an assigned security context of the secure operating system. The security context can define the security policies applied by the operating system to the isolated execution environment, thereby, defining the levels of access the isolated execution environment has to the resources of the computing system.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable media for providing group policy configuration in a communications network using a fake user are disclosed. The method is performed at a policy and charging rules function (PCRF) node. According to one method, first policy profile information associated with a first subscriber identifier is obtained from a policy profile database, where the first subscriber identifier is associated with a first subscriber. Second policy profile information associated with a second subscriber identifier is obtained from the policy profile database, where the second subscriber identifier is associated with a group of subscribers that also includes the first subscriber. At least a portion of the second policy profile information is applied to the first subscriber.

Abstract: In certain embodiments, a method includes receiving from a validation system a request to apply a first policy service to a message. The validation system determines whether the message may be transmitted to a second network by validating a plurality of tokens associated with the message. The method includes receiving at least one result from a policy service engine of applying the first policy service to the message and determining at least one predefined assertion based on the received at least one result. The message includes generating a first token by encrypting the at least one predefined assertion using a first parameter associated with the first service node and not the second service node. The method includes sending the message and the first token to the validation system.

The device includes a first CPU group that executes software composed of basic processing and an OS; a second CPU group that executes software composed of additional processing and OS corresponding to the additional processing, inter-processor communication means used for communication between the first CPU and the second CPU, and access control means that controls access made by the second CPU to a memory and/or an input/output device.

Abstract: Following development of an application, the application is deployed in a pre-production environment. A user role plays against that application, typically by performing one or more operations as a particular user in a particular group. As the operator role plays, access logs are written, and these logs are then analyzed and consolidated into a set of commands that drive a policy generator. The policy generator creates an optimized security policy that it then deploys to one or more enforcement points. In this manner, the framework enables automated configuration and deployment of one or more security policies.

Abstract: A method of providing a service to a network device from a group of network devices, some but not all of the network devices being subscribed to the service, the method includes determining which network devices of the group are not subscribed to the service in response to a service request from one of the network devices of the group; querying at least the network devices of the group that are subscribed to the service for permission to at least temporarily share the service with an unsubscribed network device; and at least temporarily providing the service to at least some of the unsubscribed network devices in response to a positive response to the query from at least one of the subscribed network devices. A network, network device and network server that can implement various aspects of this method are also disclosed.

Abstract: Techniques are described for enabling principals to inject context information into a credential (e.g. session credential). Once the credential has been issued, any arbitrary principal is allowed to inject context information into the existing credential. The injected context is scoped to the principal that made the injection. Subsequently, at authentication time, when the credential is used to request access to a particular resource, the system can verify whether the principal that made the injection is trusted and if the principal is deemed trusted, the context information can be applied to a policy that controls access to one or more resources, or can alternatively be translated into some context residing in a different namespace which can then be applied to the policy. In addition, the system enables arbitrary users to insert additional deny statements into an existing credential, which further restrict the scope of permissions granted by the credential.

Abstract: In a distributed electronic messaging system authorized information comprising metadata concerning a message is passed along from one mail server to another mail server. A receiving computer determines if the sending computer has the necessary authorizations to pass along the metadata. If so, the authorized information is passed along with the message body, enabling repetitious actions to be eliminated. If the sending computer is not authorized to pass along the metadata, the metadata is stripped off the message, changed or annotated.

Abstract: A mechanism is provided for synchronizing a first user session and a second user session in a client-server system. The first user session is between a first Web service and a client and the second user session is between a second Web service and the same client. A request is received with a first session value by the second Web service. An indicator of the first session value is assigned to a shadow, and the shadow is sent in a response to the client. A subsequent request with the shadow and a subsequent session value is received from the client. The indicator is used to verify the subsequent session value at the second Web service. The second user session is terminated if the indicator in the shadow does not correspond to the subsequent session value.

Abstract: The present invention generally relates to a computer security system for use in the identification and authentication of a user. In one aspect, a method for identifying and authenticating a user is provided. The method includes establishing a trust between a server machine and an agent on a user machine. The method further includes establishing a session key to encrypt communications between the server machine and the agent. The method also includes receiving a username and password for use in validating the user. Additionally, the method includes creating an executable binary for the extraction of device data from the user machine to uniquely identify the machine. In another aspect, a computer-readable medium including a set of instructions that when executed by a processor causes the processor to identify and authenticate the user is provided. In a further aspect, a system for identifying and authenticating a user is provided.

Abstract: A system and method for establishing a group of wireless devices having shared media stored thereupon associates each group member device of the group of wireless devices, communicates with at least some of the group member devices of the group of wireless devices to identify shared media and upon receiving a request transmitted by a group member device of the group of wireless devices, supports access to shared media. The shared media may be stored on a different group member device, upon a managing server computer, or a media server. Upon a successful validation, the group member device that made the request is notified to facilitate the access to the shared media. The notification includes access information.

Abstract: A method is provided for implementing collaborative information management. Information collaboration entities are authorized to allow entity members thereof access to a collaborative information data structure. Each information collaboration entity is a different business entity than each other information collaboration entity. An entity member of each one of the information collaboration entities is authorized to maintain business process information associated therewith within the collaborative information data structure. The business process information of each one of the information collaboration entities is generated through a business process thereof. The business process information of each one of the information collaboration entities is useful as quality control information for a manufactured product of a particular one of the information collaboration entities.

Abstract: An external master portal system consisting of a standalone primary control interface referred to as a master portal which is network-connected to subordinate gateway controllers located at the peer connection points to the network, used to define and control the permitted transfer of data across a peer-to-peer network is disclosed. Further, control of the master portal can be provided to a third party whose data is only a part of broad range of data stored or used at any of the peer sites.

Abstract: A server includes a limitation database, a monitor module, and a notification module. The limitations database is configured to store control limits for a user device. The monitor module is in communication with the limitations database. The monitor module is configured to monitor usage of the user device and to determine that one of the control limits for the user device has been exceeded. The notification module is in communication with the monitor module. The notification module is configured to notify a master device that the one of the control limits for the user device has been exceeded, to receive a request to disable the user device, and to disable the user device in response to the request.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product are provided to facilitate changing authentication information in an environment having two or more configuration items. Establishing a connection between the configuration items may require matching authentication information corresponding to the first configuration item with authentication information transmitted from the second configuration item. The system may include a repository storing at least one predetermined attribute corresponding to a configuration item, and a relation between the configuration item and another configuration item. The attribute and/or the relation may be updated by discovery that detects information regarding configuration items. In response to a request to change authentication information corresponding to the first configuration item, and based on the relation, an identification unit may identify a second configuration item influenced by the change.

Abstract: A distributed system in which time-dependent credentials are supplied by controllers that operate according to different local times. Errors that might arise from the controllers generating inconsistent credentials because of time skew are avoided by identifying credentials generated during transition intervals in which different ones of the controllers may generate different credentials at the same absolute time. During a transition interval, controllers and other devices may use credentials differentially based on the nature of the authentication function. Each controller may periodically renew its credentials based on self-scheduled renewals or based on requests from other devices, such that renewal times are offset by random delays to avoid excessive network traffic. Controllers may determine which credential is valid for any given time, based on a cryptographically secure key associated with that time and information identifying the entity that is associated with that credential.

Abstract: A system and method is described for controlling the password(s) of one or more programs through a universal program. The universal control program allows access to one or more other programs and allows editing of the passwords of the other programs directly through the universal access program.
