Abstract: According to one aspect of the present invention, a radar system is provided which accurately measures the surface profile in a wide sector beneath and forward of a helicopter, to aid low level transit and landing in poor visibility. This uses an electronic beam synthesis technique to form multiple beams directed at the area of interest, each measuring the distance to the first reflected signal received by each beam. These distances represent the profile of the ground and any objects on the ground. A processor then compares the measured profile with the ideal ground profile for safe landing. If the deviations from straight and level exceed the specified requirement for safe landing, or if sufficient rotor clearance is not detected, then a warning is given to the operator. A display will show the measured ground profile highlighting the unsafe regions, allowing the operator to seek a safe region to land.

Abstract: A holographic imaging system including a transmission line coupled to an antenna at one end and to a signal source at another end. The antenna defines an aperture through which a signal generated by the signal source is transmitted incident to an object located remotely from the aperture and through which a signal reflected from the object is received by the antenna aperture. A standing wave probe phase-referenced to the antenna aperture samples the reflected signal. A detector connected to the standing wave probe receives the sampled reflected signal and provides an output signal that represents a real-valued signal proportional to an in-phase component of the reflected signal from the object. A processor executes an imaging algorithm for generating a multi-dimensional profile representative of the object based on the output signal from the detector.

Abstract: In an embodiment, a display apparatus includes multiple physical interface circuits (PHYs) couple to respective displays. In a mirror mode, the PHYs may operate as masters. A primary master PHY may control a synchronization interface to one or more secondary master PHYs. The synchronization interface may include a start of frame signal that the primary master PHY may generate to indicate the beginning of a new frame. The secondary master PHYs may be configured to generate internal start of frame signals while independently processing the same display data as the primary master. If the internally-generated start of frame and the received start of frame occur within a window of tolerance of each other, then the secondary masters may continue to process the display data stream independently. A secondary master that detects the start of frames occur outside of the window of tolerance may resynchronize.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for interacting with a three dimensional interface. In the method, a three dimensional interface with at least one virtual object is generated. An interaction zone is defined and generated, enclosing some or all of the object. A stimulus of the interaction zone, e.g. approach/contact with a finger/stylus is defined, and a response to the stimulus is defined, e.g. changes to the object, system actions, feedback, etc. When the stimulus is sensed the response is executed. The apparatus includes a processor that generates a three dimensional interface with at least one virtual object, defines an interaction zone for the object, and defines a stimulus and a response. A display outputs the interface and object. A camera or other sensor detects stimulus of the interaction zone, whereupon the processor generates a response signal. The apparatus may be part of a head mounted display.
