Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for analysis and/or profiling of petroleum samples. The systems and methods allow for compositional analysis of samples using techniques that can be implemented outside of a laboratory setting, such as in a refinery or even at a petroleum or hydrocarbon source. The techniques are enabled by using desorption electrospray ionization as a method for generating ions for detection by mass spectroscopy. Desorption electrospray ionization can be used to generate ions for detection from a liquid or solid petroleum (or other hydrocarbon) sample with minimal sample preparation. For solid samples, the technique can also be used to identify changes in composition of a petroleum sample relative to a dimension of the solid sample.

Abstract: In a first mode, a monitoring system inputs humidified gas through at least a portion of a conduit. At least a portion of the water in the humidified gas adheres to the inner surface of the conduit, inhibiting contaminants in the gas sample from adhering to the inner surface. The water in the humidified gas may also push any contaminants adhered to the surface of the sample line back out the sample line. In a second mode, after previously passing the humidified gas through the conduit, the monitoring system controls a flow of a gas sample including the contaminants through the conduit to a gas analyzer. The one or more layer of water on the inner surface of the conduit prevents or reduces a buildup of undesirable contaminants on an inner surface of a conduit that conveys gas samples.

Abstract: A pressure indicating device for detecting and isolating leakage of toxic and/or pyrophoric gasses from within various packages is disclosed. The device can affix to a user port of a cylinder package. The device has a flexible disc-like structure which is fine tuned to outwardly flex in response to a build-up of pressure of the gas exerted against the disc-like structure. The flexed disc contacts a movable pin and pushes the push outwards from within the device. The outward movement of the pin pierces a paper seal extending over the device, thereby indicating a leak from within the valving of the package. The device withstands the pressure exerted against it, thereby also isolating the leak of the pressurized gas.

Abstract: A conductive rotator is immersed in a sample liquid in a sample container. A magnet is arranged at a specific distance from the rotation plane of the rotator in a direction of a rotating axis of the rotator so as to face the sample container. The magnet applies a magnetic field to the rotator from the outside of the sample container. A fluctuating magnetic field drive unit drives the magnet to apply the magnetic field that fluctuates in term of time to the rotator. Induced current is excited in the rotator by the fluctuating magnetic field. A rotating torque is provided to the rotator by the Lorenz interaction between the induced current and the fluctuating magnetic field, and as a result, the rotator rotates in the rotation plane. A viscosity detecting unit obtains the viscosity of the sample liquid based on a rotating state of the rotator and a time-fluctuating state of the fluctuating magnetic field.

Abstract: A system for collection and delivery of sub-milliliter liquid samples is described that provides a dramatic simplification for the measurement of clinical values. The system produces high dilutions of capillary size samples, such as bodily fluids or blood, by a factor of 1000 or more. Multiple assays can be conducted on a sample of 0.1 cc or less. A small lancet can create a drop of blood on a fingertip or other location, which can be collected into a self-priming capillary blood collector. The sample is then loaded into a consumable loader. Then a fluid, such as saline, is flowed into the consumable loader, and passes through the capillary collector, washing out the fluid. Downstream, the blood in the capillary is reliably diluted by mixing with appropriate reagents to allow analysis of selected blood properties. One or more individual bubbles can be inserted into the stream during loading. The capillary loading system can be used for one or several assays on a single blood sample.

Abstract: This invention relates to inductive inertial sensors employing a magnetic drive and/or sense architecture. In embodiments, translational gyroscopes utilize a conductive coil made to vibrate in a first dimension as a function of a time varying current driven through the coil in the presence of a magnetic field. Sense coils register an inductance that varies as a function of an angular velocity in a second dimension. In embodiments, the vibrating coil causes first and second mutual inductances in the sense coils to deviate from each other as a function of the angular velocity. In embodiments, self-inductances associated with a pair of meandering coils vary as a function of an angular velocity in a second dimension. Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method and apparatus for a capacitive force sensor utilizing a magnetic spring. The force is applied across a body and a moveable element that are coupled by the magnetic spring. The moveable element is configured to vary the capacitance of a variable capacitor. A sensing circuit, electrically coupled to the variable capacitor, provides a force signal characteristic of the applied force. In application to a stylus pointing device, the moveable element is coupled to a moveable tip of the stylus. The force signal, which is characteristic of the force applied to the tip of the stylus, may be used to control an application executed on a host electronic device.

Abstract: A power measurement assembly mounted within an axle. In a specific example, the axle is a spindle that is interconnects the cranks of a bicycle, exercise, bicycle, or other fitness equipment. The power measurement assembly may include strain gauges connected with an appropriate circuit (e.g., Wheatstone bridge) that provides an output of the force on the axle by a rider pedaling the crank. In the case of an axle, the strain gauges measure the torsion due to the applied torque on the crank. The value is converted to a power value by a processor and that value is then wirelessly transmitted for display. The processor and/or the transmitter may be mounted within the axle. A separate power measurement assembly may be mounted on one of the cranks, which may include its own processor and transmitter or may take advantage of the processor and transmitter within the axle.

Abstract: A transducer for measuring normal force of a compliant pin includes a fixture having a base. A supporting beam extends from the base. A sensing beam is positioned proximate to the sensing beam and supported at at least one end thereof. The fixture has a slot positioned between the supporting beam and the sensing beam and configured to receive the compliant pin. A strain gauge array is provided on the sensing beam for sensing strain of the sensing beam. The strain of the sensing beam corresponds to normal force imparted on the sensing beam by the compliant pin. The sensing beam is configured to be deformed when the compliant pin is loaded into the slot and the deformation corresponds to strain of the sensing beam configured to be sensed by the strain gauge array.

In accordance with a first embodiment of the present disclosure, a dual direction clutch-brake with a clutch cup is disclosed. When moved in one direction, the clutch cup engages a clutch pack resulting in the input shaft being engaged with the output shaft. When the clutch cap is moved in the opposite direction, the clutch cup engages a breaking member, for example a cover or casing of the PTO unit, which applies a force to the output shaft opposite to the direction of rotation and thereby stops the output shaft from rotating.
