Abstract: A method for encoding an image of pixels and for decoding a corresponding bit stream is described. More particularly, it concerns residual prediction according to a spatial scalable encoding scheme. It can be considered in the context of the Scalable extension of the HEVC standard (noted SHVC), being developed by the ISO-MPEG and ITU-T standardization organizations. It is proposed to simplify the computational complexity and the memory usage needed by the GRILP and DIFF inter modes by combining upsampling and motion compensation operations into one single operation and/or reducing the complexity of the linear filtering processes involved in some of the processes and/or adopt some limiting usage of these two modes when combined with bidirectional prediction. Accordingly a reduction of the complexity is achieved with, at worst, a limited loss in coding efficiency.

Abstract: A method of processing a video signal is disclosed. The present invention includes obtaining a current macroblock type, obtaining skip or direct mode indication information on a partition of the current macroblock according to the current macroblock type, deriving a motion vector of the partition according to the skip or direct mode indication information, and predicting a pixel value of the partition using the motion vector. Accordingly, the present invention obtains a pixel value of a reference block close to an original video using a motion vector, thereby enhancing a reconstruction ratio of the macroblock. As a macroblock uses skip or direct prediction indication information, it is unnecessary to separately code skip mode indication information and direct mode indication information on the macroblock, whereby an information size to be coded can be reduced.

Abstract: Innovations in syntax and semantics of coded picture buffer removal delay (“CPBRD”) values potentially simplify splicing operations. For example, a video encoder sets a CPBRD value for a current picture that indicates an increment value relative to a nominal coded picture buffer removal time of a preceding picture in decoding order, regardless of whether the preceding picture has a buffering period SEI message. The encoder can signal the CPBRD value according to a single-value approach in which a flag indicates how to interpret the CPBRD value, according to a two-value approach in which another CPBRD value (having a different interpretation) is also signaled, or according to a two-value approach that uses a flag and a delta value. A corresponding video decoder receives and parses the CPBRD value for the current picture. A splicing tool can perform simple concatenation operations to splice bitstreams using the CPBRD value for the current picture.

Abstract: The direct data recovery (DDR) uses adaptive data decoding (ADD) to combine a conventional reversal of data coding made on a transmit side with a reversal of received signal distortions introduced by a transmission channel; wherein both such reversals are achieved by the same conversion of a sub-range parameter or a referencing subspace (corresponding to said received signal) into data transmitted originally, by applying an ADD step comparing said sub-range parameter or referencing subspace with its reference or reference frame and using a result of such comparison for addressing a Content Addressed Memory (CAM) outputting recovered data.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for increasing the data rate and providing antenna diversity using multiple transmit antennas utilize a set of bits of a digital signal to generate a codeword. Delay elements may be provided in antenna output channels, or, with suitable code construction, delay may be omitted. n signals represent n symbols of a codeword are transmitted with n different transmit antennas. At the receiver, the noisy received sequence is decoded. The parallel transmission and channel coding enables an increase the data rate over previous techniques, and recovery even under fading conditions. The channel coding may be concatenated with error correction codes under appropriate conditions.
