Publication number: 20140287145Abstract: A protective coating method of a material such as aromatic polyurethane substrates is effected through a process that promotes coating adhesion to the substrate while providing a wood-like aesthetic. Closed cells on the surface of the aromatic polyurethane are opened via sanding techniques to promote adhesion. Publication number: 20140287147Abstract: A versatile and rapid sol-gel technique for the fabrication of high quality one-dimensional photonic bandgap materials. For example, silica/titania multi-layer materials may be fabricated by a sol-gel chemistry route combined with dip-coating onto planar or curved substrate. A shock-cooling step immediately following the thin film heat-treatment process is introduced. This step was found important in the prevention of film crack formation—especially in silica/titania alternating stack materials with a high number of layers. The versatility of this sol-gel method is demonstrated by the fabrication of various Bragg stack-type materials with fine-tuned optical properties by tailoring the number and sequence of alternating layers, the film thickness and the effective refractive index of the deposited thin films. Measured optical properties show good agreement with theoretical simulations confirming the high quality of these sol-gel fabricated optical materials.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 29, 2012Publication date: September 25, 2014Applicant: UNIVERSITY OF UTAH RESEARCH FOUNDATIONInventors: Michael H. Publication number: 20140287167Abstract: Provided is a polymerizable composition for providing a thin image-display device that does not exhibit display problems due to deformation of an image-display unit, allows high-brightness, high-contrast image display, and tolerates heat well. A polymerizable composition for forming a polymer layer interposed between an image-display unit in an image-display device and a light-transmitting protective part. Said polymerizable composition is characterized by containing the following: (1) a (meth)acryloyl group-containing compound that has a structural unit derived from a (poly)ester polyol and/or a structural unit derived from a (poly)carbonate polyol; (2) a (meth)acryloyl group-containing compound that has a C9+ hydrocarbon group; and (3) a photopolymerization initiator.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 26, 2012Publication date: September 25, 2014Applicant: Showa Denko K.K.Inventor: Kazuhiko Ooga

Publication number: 20140287168Abstract: An apparatus can include an elongated shaft having a distal end and a proximal end. An ornamental fixture can be attached to and extend outwardly from the distal end of the elongated shaft. A connector at the proximal end of the elongated shaft is configured to secure the elongated shaft to a tree, such as to support the ornamental fixture in a desired position relative to the tree.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 4, 2014Publication date: September 25, 2014Inventor: Thomas M. Publication number: 20140287169Abstract: An artificial turf barrier including a lawn barrier, an artificial turf, and a connecting area for the artificial turf. A connecting grid is also provided. A method for manufacturing an artificial turf barrier including a lawn barrier and a connecting grid, the lawn barrier and the connecting grid being formed by injection molding. An artificial turf portion cut to size is inserted into an injection mold and the lawn barrier and the connecting grid are non-detachably combined with the artificial turf portion during injection molding.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 18, 2014Publication date: September 25, 2014Inventors: Heribert GUENTNER, Anton HUBER

Publication number: 20140287170Abstract: An apparatus for processing a semiconductor substrate is described. The apparatus is a process chamber having an optically transparent upper dome and lower dome. Vacuum is maintained in the process chamber during processing. The upper dome is thermally controlled by flowing a thermal control fluid along the upper dome outside the processing region. Thermal lamps are positioned proximate the lower dome, and thermal sensors are disposed among the lamps. The lamps are powered in zones, and a controller adjusts power to the lamp zones based on data received from the thermal sensors. A reflective liner may provide for improved temperature measurement and heating of a substrate.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 21, 2014Publication date: September 25, 2014Inventors: JOSEPH M. Publication number: 20140287171Abstract: A method of and apparatus for forming one or more flanges or formations, which may conveniently be inwardly facing, on or in a hollow continuously wound structural member, such as a hollow pole, the method including the steps of providing a tapered mandrel on which to continuously wind a loop of filament or filaments to form a hollow structural member, providing an end-forming plate at at least one end of the mandrel, placing one or more formers on the outside of the mandrel adjacent to and spaced from the or each end plate by a required amount to form one or more flanges when the member has been fully wound and set within a resin, and subsequently removing the continuously wound structural member from the mandrel.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2012Publication date: September 25, 2014Inventor: Anthony Carey Williams

Publication number: 20140287172Abstract: A patch bag has a heat-shrinkable patch adhered to a heat-shrinkable bag and a skirt between a heat seal and an edge of the bag. The bag is made from a multilayer film with at least one film layer comprising an incompatible polymer blend so that after shrinking the film exhibits controlled tear direction. The bag skirt has a bag tear initiator for initiating a controlled direction tear to the opposite side of the bag. The patch has an edge with a patch tear initiator separated from the bag tear initiator but positioned along a tear line emanating from bag tear initiator, so that upon tearing the shrunken bag, the controlled tear propagates into the patch tear initiator and thereafter the shrunken bag and the shrunken patch tear together towards an opposite edge of the patch.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 19, 2013Publication date: September 25, 2014Applicant: Cryovac, Inc.Inventors: David M.
