Abstract: A flow wood processing extracting lignin from woody plant material and converting delignified cellulosic residue to crude bio-oils, that removes toxic preservative chemicals from waste timber, and provides conversion to useful or nontoxic forms. Wood is chipped and fed into a lignin extractor using ethanol at high temperatures to dissolve the lignin with counter current material contactors, heat exchangers, and a computer control system. Most of preservative chemicals likely precipitate out at this stage as a heavy sludge that can be removed. Ethanol containing dissolved lignin is removed from the lignin extractor, the dissolved lignin recovered, the ethanol recycled into the lignin extractor, and residual heat returned to the process. Delignified cellulosic pulp is removed from the lignin extractor and subjected to a milling to convert into a smooth sludge for entry to a bio-convertor by a super critical water process. The residue is prepared as a high phosphate fertilizer.

Abstract: A system and method of taking a sample of hydrogen gas and reducing the hydrogen concentration by a factor greater than 1×108 while increasing the partial pressure of the contaminating gases by a factor greater than 100, so that extremely low levels of contamination can be accurately detected. A sample of hydrogen gas is captured. Only the hydrogen gas is removed leaving all the contaminating gases in the collection chamber. This causes the total pressure of the gas sample within the collection chamber to decrease dramatically since most of the gas was hydrogen. All the contaminants remain in the collection chamber. None are lost through pumping. As such, the concentration of contaminants within the remaining sample increases dramatically. The residual partial pressures of the contaminating gases within the collection chamber and can now be measured by a variety of techniques.

Abstract: An analysis method is achieved in which pressure variation resulting from sample injection or passage switching by an autosampler does not exert an influence on the control of a liquid transfer pump. The liquid chromatograph analysis method comprises the steps of: transferring two or more types of eluents while changing a mixing ratio between the eluents; adjusting an amount of the transferred liquid within a predetermined time in a passage for the eluent transferred; injecting a sample in the passage; supplying to a separation column the eluent into which the sample is injected; separating a target component in the sample; and detecting the target component thus separated. In this method, control is exercised so as to synchronize a liquid transfer cycle of the eluent with the sample injecting operation and to implement the sample injecting operation at a timing rather than the pressure obtaining time.

Abstract: A formation tester for use in a subterranean well can include a probe which extends outward into contact with an earth formation, and an adjustable flow control device which limits an extension pressure applied to extend the probe. A method of testing a subterranean formation can include positioning a formation tester in a wellbore, extending a probe of the formation tester outward into contact with the formation, and limiting a force applied by the probe to the formation, the limiting being performed by variable actuation of a flow control device downhole. Another formation tester can include a probe which extends outward into contact with an earth formation, with a force applied by the probe to the formation being remotely adjustable downhole.

Abstract: A system and method of monitoring a pressure, temperature, and/or vibration of a hostile environment without requiring the use of active electronics or an oscillator circuit in that environment. The system and method interrogate a resonant pressure sensor and a resonant or passive temperature sensor connected to a transmission line and located at least 100 feet (30.48 m) away from a network analyzer. The system and method use the reflected frequencies from the sensors to determine the pressure, temperature, and/or vibration. If the sensors are networked by the transmission line or a network filter, the reflected portion can include the reflected transmission energy. The applied signal and reflected portion travel along the transmission line, which is preferably impedance matched to that of the system. If a multi-conductor cable is used, the effects of the cable's length and temperature are compensated for via a system calibration when in field use.

Abstract: A method and device for metrologically differentiating material regions, namely majority regions and minority regions of a page-like, web-like or sheet-like material. At least one sensor receives a measuring signal of variable amplitude, the amplitude being variable depending on the material region located in a spatial detection range of the sensor. The amplitude is increased by a controllable amplifier. The material is moved relatively to the sensor such that majority regions are located in the spatial detection range of the sensor more frequently than minority regions. The method is characterized in that in phases, in which majority regions undergo examination by means of the sensor, by means of the amplifier regulation of the amplitude to a set point is carried out and the sensor generates a signal “majority region”, and that in situations, in which the amplitude undergoes a sufficient change, the sensor generates a signal “minority region”.

The sensor element includes at least one heating element and at least two temperature measuring sensors. At least one first measured variable and at least one second measured variable, which is different from the first measured variable, are detected with the aid of the sensor element. Abstract: A multi-axis integrated MEMS inertial sensor device. The device can include an integrated 3-axis gyroscope and 3-axis accelerometer on a single chip, creating a 6-axis inertial sensor device. The structure is spatially with efficient use of the design area of the chip by adding the accelerometer device to the center of the gyroscope device. The design architecture can be a rectangular or square shape in geometry, which makes use of the whole chip area and maximizes the sensor size in a defined area. The MEMS is centered in the package, which is beneficial to the sensor's temperature performance. Furthermore, the electrical bonding pads of the integrated multi-axis inertial sensor device can be configured in the four corners of the rectangular chip layout. This configuration guarantees design symmetry and efficient use of the chip area.
