  • Patent number: RE45226
Abstract: A gamma ray detector assembly for a borehole logging system that requires the measure of gamma radiation with optimized gamma ray energy resolution and with fast emission times required to obtain meaningful measurements in high radiation fields. The detector assembly comprises a lanthanum bromide (LaBr3) scintillation crystal and a digital spectrometer that cooperates with the crystal to maximize pulse processing throughput by digital filtering and digital pile-up inspection of the pulses. The detector assembly is capable of digital pulse measurement and digital pile-up inspection with dead-time less than 600 nanoseconds per event. Pulse height can be accurately measured (corrected for pile-up effects) for 2 pulses separated by as little as 150 nanoseconds. Although the invention is applicable to virtually any borehole logging methodology that uses the measure of gamma radiation in harsh borehole conditions, the invention is particularly applicable to carbon/oxygen logging.

  • Patent number: RE45227
Abstract: A two-channel time-interleaved analog-to-digital converter (TIADC) system that provides for estimation and correction of offset, gain, and sample-time errors. Error in the offsets of the two ADCs that form the TIADC produces a spurious signal at the Nyquist frequency that can be used to minimize the difference of offsets of the ADCs. The difference in gain between the two ADCs produces spurious signals reflected around the Nyquist frequency whose magnitudes can be reduced by minimizing the difference in signal power between the two ADCs. An Automatic Gain Control loop corrects the scaling of the input signal due to the average of the gains of the ADCs. Phase error produces spurious signals reflected around the Nyquist frequency that are ?/2 out of phase with those due to the gain error. Minimizing the difference between the correlation of consecutive signals from the ADCs reduces the magnitude of these image tones.

  • Patent number: RE45230
Abstract: In general, linear complex-field encoding techniques are proposed. For example, transmitter of a wireless communication system includes an encoder and a modulator. The encoder linearly encodes a data stream to produce an encoded data stream. The modulator to produce an output waveform in accordance with the encoded data stream for transmission through a wireless channel. The modulator generates the output waveform as a multicarrier waveform having a set of subcarriers, e.g., an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) waveform. The encoder linearly encodes the data stream so that the subcarriers carry different linear combinations of information symbols of the data stream.

Abstract: A new and useful portable pelvic exam device is provided, which is lightweight for convenient transport or storage, and is readily used atop existing surfaces in the environment such as a bed and maintains a patient in a dorsal or modified lithotic position for a pelvic examination or procedure. The device comprises a substantially wedge shaped prismatic base with a concave semispherical well along the front surface, over which a patient orients her vulva to create a theatre in which the examiner may observe the anatomy, operate ancillary tools and perform an indicated procedure or exam. Stirrup assemblies may be utilized in concert with the device to support the patient's feet and keep her knees spaced apart from each other and legs in an abducted position. Additionally, the device has a drawer moveably attached into an aperature in the device, which can be opened or closed and houses therein ancillary tools.

  • Patent number: 8875331
Abstract: An adaptive cushion for reducing pressure on body parts of a person positioned on a chair or bed includes an overlay cushion having a plurality of individual air bladder cells, each having thereon a force sensor. The cushion includes a controller for inflating and deflating individual air bladder cells to air pressures that tend to reduce the interface pressures sensed by the force sensors. A pressure reduction method includes varying the inflation pressure in a first air bladder cell while measuring the sum of the interface pressures exerted on all or a plurality of the air bladder cells, re-pressurizing the first cell to that air pressure for which a minimum total interface pressure was obtained, repeating this process for the remaining air bladder cells.
