Abstract: An inkjet recording apparatus may include a carriage, a recording head mounted on the carriage and including a nozzle surface, a maintenance mechanism, and a controller. The maintenance mechanism may include a cap which covers, in a covering position, the nozzle surface of the recording head, a pump including an inlet and an outlet, a tube extending from the outlet, and a waste ink storage detachably attached to the tube. The controller drives the pump to execute purging with the inlet of the pump in communication with the cap in the covering position, receives an input indicating replacement of the waste ink storage, and drives the pump to execute an idle suction with the inlet of the pump in communication with atmosphere when a time elapsed after the execution of the purging until the reception of the input is shorter than a threshold time.

Abstract: A method of generating print data for an inkjet printhead having a plurality of ink planes. The method includes the steps of: receiving image data for a print job in a printer controller; retrieving keep-wet pattern data for each ink plane of the printhead, the retrieved keep-wet pattern data being determined using one or more input parameters; generating first print data for each ink plane in the printer controller based on the received image data; merging the first print data with the keep-wet pattern data to provide second print data for each ink plane; and sending the second print data from the printer controller to the printhead, thereby causing the printhead to print an image together with a keep-wet pattern. The keep-wet pattern is defined by a plurality of dots printed at a frequency sufficient to maintain hydration of each nozzle in the printhead.

The method includes the steps of: feeding a print medium past the printhead in a media feed direction, the media feed direction defining relative upstream and downstream sides of the printhead; printing an image onto the print medium, the image being defined by image data; and printing a keep-wet pattern onto the print medium from each ink plane of the printhead, the keep-wet pattern being defined by a plurality of dots printed at a frequency sufficient to maintain hydration of each nozzle in the printhead. A first keep-wet pattern from a first ink plane is printed at a higher frequency than a second keep-wet pattern from a second ink plane, the first ink plane being furthest upstream in the printhead.

Abstract: According to one example of the present invention, there is provided a method of generating data to control the ejection of ink drops from a plurality of arrays of printhead nozzles of a printing system. In the printing system one of the arrays of nozzles is configured to eject a first ink of a first colour having a first colourant density. Another one of the arrays of nozzles is configured to eject a second ink of the first colour having a second colourant density. Each array of nozzles is capable of making ink marks having a plurality of different ink mark volumes on a media. The method comprises obtaining image data for a single colour channel and generating, from the image data, multi-level screen data describing, for each of the first and second inks, the ink mark volume to be made by the array of printhead nozzles at each screen location.
