Publication number: 20160102596Abstract: Internal combustion diesel engines require localized cooling methods for the pistons in these engines. The lubricating oil for the engine is also used as a cooling medium. The operating temperature and stresses in the newest models of diesel engines are extremely high and approach the mechanical limits of the engine component materials. Therefore, supplemental methods are required to remove the excessive heat generated during engine operation. In order to increase the amount of heat transferred to the oil from the piston in a given time, a plurality of fins or grooves are formed on some of the heat transferring surfaces of the piston, such as inside the combustion bowl. The increased surface area of the component allows more heat to be dissipated to the oil that is in contact with the surface. The more heat removed from the piston, the more efficiently and economically the engine will perform in service.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 8, 2014Publication date: April 14, 2016Applicant: MAHLE INDUSTRIES, INCORPORATEDInventor: Philip VADEN

The disc and the drum are connected to different parts of the epicyclic reducing gears, so as to be counter-rotating. The turbine engine includes a row of stator vanes arranged between two rows of rotor blades of the drum of the compressor, so as to straighten the flow and improve the efficiency. The turbine engine includes at least two epicyclic reducing gears, so that the vane rows of the drum turn faster than that downstream, which itself turns faster than the fan.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 25, 2015Publication date: April 14, 2016Applicant: Techspace Aero S.A.Inventor: Stéphane Hiernaux

Publication number: 20160102610Abstract: The present disclosure provides a device for de-icing an air inlet lip of an aircraft nacelle. The device includes a pre-exchanger, an intake orifice of taking in low-pressure air downstream from a fan, and two high-pressure air intake orifices downstream from a compressor in addition to controlled valves and check valves installed in an air flow network. In particular, the pre-exchanger includes a low-pressure air outlet capable of opening into the air inlet lip of the aircraft nacelle via a pipe of the air flow network.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 18, 2015Publication date: April 14, 2016Applicant: AIRCELLEInventors: Pierre CARUEL, Hervé HURLIN

Publication number: 20160102611Abstract: An environmental defense shield includes symmetric airfoil-shaped vanes contributing to and positioned around a plenum space and positioned in front of a turbine engine. An annular band stiffener is set into the vanes, which projects forward in a diminishing size, the vanes merging together to create or attaching to a solid nose. The environmental defense shield serves to protect the engine from debris while also smoothing airflow into the engine.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 8, 2015Publication date: April 14, 2016Inventor: Dennis Snyder

Publication number: 20160102612Abstract: The present invention is a prime mover with recovered energy driven compression for stationary and motor vehicle application. Efficient low compression operation, especially beneficial to small gas turbines, is enabled with either ambient or cryogenic intake air. Recovered energy, liquefied air cooling and re-liquefaction of air by a cryogenic sink minimize motive fluid compression work of a jet compressor driving exhaust gas recirculation. Regenerative heat exchanger terminal temperature difference relative to turbine temperature drop and heat exchanger surface area are reduced.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 17, 2015Publication date: April 14, 2016Inventor: Jay Stephen Kaufman

Publication number: 20160102613Abstract: Embodiments provide a method and apparatus to lower the temperature and heat content of the ambient air at the inlet to a gas combustion turbine to enhance power generation. Embodiments can use multiple, staged direct contact air chillers, variable flow secondary water chilling systems, constant flow primary water chilling systems with water chilling units arranged for parallel chilled water flow, and a coolant water circulation system used for heat rejection with open cooling towers. Alternatives can use a chilled water thermal storage system, and/or waste heat to drive at least part of the water chilling process. With the included apparatus a method to allow adiabatic air chilling is available for operation during periods of lower ambient air conditions when needs for power augmentation may not be as great.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 12, 2015Publication date: April 14, 2016Inventor: Thomas Brady

Publication number: 20160102615Abstract: The present invention generally relates to a diverting system to be used in a combined-cycle power plant. According to the invention, the diverting system is integrated within the by-pass stack and carries out, in a sole component, the functions of by-passing the hot exhaust flow in a single-cycle configuration or guiding it through the HRSG, acting as a diffusor, in an open combined-cycle configuration.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 29, 2015Publication date: April 14, 2016Inventors: Siegfried TRIPPOLD, Andre KOENIG, Philipp MOLLER, Joerg PFISTNER
