The device can offer a variety of advantages as a workability-characterizing device: it can be small in size, lightweight and can include a simple, gravity-based working mechanism that makes it a suitable device for both field and lab applications.

Abstract: A method determines the filling quality of a frequency oscillator where a measured fluid is passed through an oscillator tube. The relationship between the viscosity-dependent density of the measured fluid and the quality and/or attenuation of the oscillator tube is determined. The relationship between the dynamic viscosity and the attenuation and/or quality of the measured fluid is determined, and these values are used to create a calibration table that reproduces the functional relationship between a parameter relevant for the quality and/or the attenuation of the frequency oscillator and the viscosity of the measured fluid. An independent measuring apparatus determines a measured value for the dynamic viscosity of the measured fluid. The obtained measurement value for the viscosity coincides in the calibration table with a specific function value, and the result of this comparison with respect to the presence of any filling errors is used to determine a possible filling error.

Abstract: A particulate measurement system includes an ion generation section for generating ions by means of corona discharge; an electrification chamber for electrifying particulates contained in a gas under measurement; a measurement signal generation circuit for generating a measurement signal which correlates with the amount of the particulates; and a particulate amount determination section for determining the amount of the particulates. The particulate measurement system further includes a particle diameter estimation section for estimating the particle diameter of the particulates contained in the gas under measurement. The particulate amount determination section performs correction by multiplying the measurement signal or the amount of the particulates determined from the measurement signal by a coefficient relating to the ratio between the estimated particle diameter and a reference particle diameter.

Abstract: A flow cytometer including a laser, indexing structure, adjustment structure, and sensor structure. The cytometer is conventionally used with a removable microfluidic cassette, which is installed at a first position that is enforced by the indexing structure. The adjustment structure changes a relative position between an interrogation aperture of the cassette and the laser beam. Feedback from the sensor structure is used to optimize propagation of the laser through the interrogation aperture to reduce (and hopefully eliminate) autofluorescence caused by beam impingement onto the cassette.

Abstract: Apparatus for generating polychromatic polarized light with the polarization ellipse orientation determined by the wavelength. The proposed polychromatic polarization state generator can be used in various configurations of polarized light microscope (called “polychromatic polscope”) for imaging birefringent samples. The polychromatic polscope produces a spectral-modulated visual scene, in which birefringent structures are evident because their appearance is different from the background. New polarized light microscope can subtract the background and produce video-enhanced color image of birefringent structures. The obtained picture can be also mathematically processed in order to obtain a map of quantitative distribution of specimen retardation and orientation of the principal axes.
