Abstract: A contact-type ophthalmoscope includes a contact lens, an annular illumination module, an imaging lens group and an image capture module. The contact lens having a concave surface is configured for contacting an eyeball. The annular illumination module arranged close to the contact lens is configured for providing a direct illumination light source to illuminate a fundus of the eyeball. The imaging lens group is disposed in the central hollow portion of the annular illumination module and configured for converging the reflected light from the fundus of the eyeball. The image capture module is configured for capturing the reflected light converged by the imaging lens group to form an image. The above-mentioned contact-type ophthalmoscope has advantages of better illumination efficiency, compactness and less scattered light reflected from the imaging lens.

Abstract: An embodiment in accordance with the present invention provides a new acquisition scheme for T2-weighted BOLD fMRI. It employs a T2 preparation module to induce the BOLD contrast, followed by a single-shot 3D fast gradient echo (GRE) readout with short echo time (TE<2 ms). The separation of BOLD contrast generation from the readout substantially reduces the “dead time” due to long TE required in spin echo (SE) BOLD sequences. This approach termed “3D T2prep-GRE,” can be implemented with any magnetic resonance imaging machine, known to or conceivable by one of skill in the art. This approach is expected to be useful for ultra-high field fMRI studies that require whole brain coverage, or focus on regions near air cavities. The concept of using T2 preparation to generate BOLD contrast can be combined with many other fast imaging sequences at any field strength.

Abstract: Techniques for respiratory and metabolic monitoring in mobile devices, wearable computing, security, illumination, photography, and other applications may use a phosphor-coated broadband white LED to produce broadband light, which may be transmitted along with ambient light to a target (e.g., ear, face, wrist, or the like). Some scattered light returning from a target may be passed through a spectral filter to produce multiple detector regions sensitive to a different waveband and/or wavelength range, and the detected light may be analyzed to determine a measure of a respiratory rate or effort. In the absence of LED light, ambient light may be sufficient illumination for analysis. The disclosed techniques may provide identifying features of type or status of a tissue target (e.g., respiratory rate, heart rate, heart rate variability, heart function, lung function, fat content, hydration status, confirmation of living tissue, and the like).

Some embodiments may provide a wearable device, comprising: a photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor; a motion sensor; and processing circuitry configured to: determine one or more monitoring conditions; determine whether the one or more monitoring conditions are satisfied based on monitoring motion data from the motion sensor; capture the blood flow data with the PPG sensor when the one or more monitoring conditions are satisfied; determine time-interval data indicating times between pulses based on the blood flow data; determine an ANS condition based on the time-interval data. The blood flow data and/or time-interval data may be captured and aggregated from multiple discontinuous periods of time when monitoring conditions are satisfied.

Abstract: As placement of a physiological monitoring sensor is typically at a sensor site located at an extremity of the body, the state of microcirculation, such as whether vessels are blocked or open, can have a significant effect on the readings at the sensor site. It is therefore desirable to provide a patient monitor and/or physiological monitoring sensor capable of distinguishing the microcirculation state of blood vessels. In some embodiments, the patient monitor and/or sensor provide a warning and/or compensates a measurement based on the microcirculation state. In some embodiments, a microcirculation determination process implementable by the patient monitor and/or sensor is used to determine the state of microcirculation of the patient.

Abstract: A physiological parameter measurement device comprising a processor and a video processing module coupled to the processor to divide each of a plurality of frames of a video into a plurality of blocks, where the video is of a body part of a subject whose physiological parameter is to be determined. The video processing module further is to select a block having highest peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) from amongst the plurality of blocks. Further, the video processing module is to extract a photoplethysmogram (PPG) signal from the video based on a block identifier associated with the block. The physiological parameter measurement device further comprises a signal enhancement module coupled to the processor, to process the PPG signal to obtain an enhanced PPG signal for determining a value of the physiological parameter for the subject.
