Abstract: A device and method for securing an orifice flowmeter and preventing unauthorized access to the flowmeter while in service is disclosed. The security device includes a housing having a top surface, a bottom surface, a closed end, an open end, a front surface, and a back surface forming a cavity. Through bores extend coaxially through the top surface and the bottom surface proximate the open end. Some embodiments include protrusions coupled to the interior of cavity. The protrusions together with the back surface of the housing are configured to surround exposed portions of the flowmeter, such that the addition of a shackle portion of a locking device through the through bores will prevent removal of the security device from the flowmeter and subsequently prevent access to the flowmeter.

Abstract: A colorimeter with multiple sensings of light to provide higher accuracy measurements of the primaries of a human-standard observer based color space is provided. This color space (target color space) must have the characteristic of two chromaticity coordinates and an achromatic primary like CIELAB, CIELUV or xyY in CIE 1931. The calibration of the device includes training with a set of calibration illuminants. Two sets of calibration-factors are determined. The first set of calibration factors yields intensity of primaries optimized with respect to chromaticity, the second set yields the optimized intensity of the achromatic primary. The combination of these sets of calibration factors enable the colorimeter to deliver values of that light with respect to three primaries of a human-standard-observer-based color space optimized with respect to chromaticity and the achromatic primary.

The resonance frequency estimate unit includes a noise removal unit for removing a noise superimposed on a wheel speed signal serving as the rotation speed information for each of the wheels with using an active noise control technology.

Abstract: In an embodiment, a method for calibrating a pressure sensor device is disclosed. The method involves determining the resonant frequency of a membrane of the pressure sensor device after the pressure sensor device has been attached to a circuit board, calculating a change in the resonant frequency from a resonant frequency stored in memory, calculating strain of the membrane of the pressure sensor device from the change in resonant frequency, and calibrating the pressure sensor device based on a capacitance-to-pressure curve calculated using the strain of the membrane of the pressure sensor device.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for testing a duct leak detection system of an aircraft is disclosed. A sensor of the duct leak detection system is selected at an interface of the duct leak detection system. An alternating current is sent through the selected sensor and a resistance of the selected sensor is measured using the alternating current. An indicative signal is generated at the interface when the measured resistance of the selected sensor is outside of a specification of the selected sensor.

Abstract: A micromechanical shock sensor includes a proof mass coupled to a surface of a substrate and a projection element extending laterally from the proof mass. The shock sensor further includes a latch mechanism and a retention anchor. The latch mechanism has a latch spring attached to the surface and a latch tip extending from a movable end of the latch spring. The retention anchor is attached to the surface and is located proximate the latch tip. The proof mass is configured for planar movement relative to the substrate when the proof mass is subjected to a force of at least a threshold magnitude. Movement of the proof mass in response to the force causes the latch tip to become retained between the projection element and the retention anchor to place the shock sensor in a latched state. The latched state may be detected by optical inspection, probe, or external readout.

The piston being axially displace-able within the piston bore along the longitudinal axis. The piston bore and a first surface of the piston head form a first working volume and displacement of the piston alters the first working volume. The apparatus also includes a first plurality of injectors coupled to the first working volume and a first common rail. The first plurality of injectors are configured to inject a hydraulic fluid from the common rail into the first working volume. The first common rail is configured to store the hydraulic fluid at an elevated pressure of 1,000 bar or greater. The tire performance testing apparatus includes a tire running surface, a projection installing surface disposed on the front side of the end of the tire running surface in the traveling direction of a vehicle traveling on the tire running surface and positioned lower than the end of the tire running surface, and a projection disposed on the projection installing surface in such a manner as to protrude upward from the projection installing surface. And the distance between the end of the tire running surface and the projection is so set that the tire of a vehicle traveling on the tire running surface hits the projection after getting airborne away from the end of the tire running surface.

Abstract: A method for creation of a non-destructive inspection (NDI) standard employs a coupon of bonded layers or a composite structure having a predetermined thickness. A predetermined pulse width is defined. The coupon and a laser source are positioned with respect to one another and the laser source is used to create a laser pulse having the predetermined pulse width to create a disbond or delamination in the bond layer at a predetermined location. The coupon may then be used as a standard for calibration of NDI inspection tools by scanning the coupon with the tool to provide an inspection output. The output is then examined to confirm that the disbond or delamination in the coupon is properly identified in the output.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a sample separation device (400) for the separation of material from a region of interest, the “sample-ROI” (RS), in a biological sample (11). An embodiment of the invention comprises the application of a structured cover sheet (20) that has an aperture (24) at the sample-ROI to the sample (11). Sample material can then selectively be removed from the sample-ROI through the aperture (24) in the cover sheet. The cover sheet (20) may for example be a tape with an adhesive on one side. The aperture (24) in the cover sheet (20) may automatically be cut out after the selection of a region of interest in a (microscopic) image (I) of the sample. Alternatively, the structured cover sheet (20) maybe produced by printing or plotting. Moreover, sample material may preferably be removed by lysing and may further be subjected to molecular diagnostics (MDx).
