Abstract: A method of treating a material having a plurality of fines of a dusting material to prevent emanation of dust from the dusting material is described. An aqueous solution comprising a mixture of soluble non-ionic cellulose ether, a plasticizer, and a surfactant is provided. The aqueous solution is applied to a dusting material having a plurality of fines. The dusting material is transferred during the applying step from a first location to a second location as the aqueous solution is applied to the material having a plurality of fines. The dusting material is mixed with the aqueous solution to coat the material having a plurality of fines with the aqueous solution. The treated dusting material is accumulated into a mass of the material subsequent to the applying step wherein the aqueous solution is substantially evenly distributed throughout an interior portion of the mass of the treated dusting material.

Abstract: Powder metallurgy technology is used to form metallic composites with a uniform distribution of nano-meter size particles within the metallic grains. The uniform distribution of the nano-meter particles is achieved by attaching the nano-meter particles to micron sized particles with surface properties capable of attracting the smaller particles, then blending the decorated particles with micron size metal powder. The blended powder is then powder metallurgy processed into billets that are metal-worked to complete the incorporation and uniform distribution of the nano-meter particles into the metallic composite.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for layered production of a three-dimensional object, wherein a powdery or fluid building material, which can be solidified by the effects of electro-magnetic or particle radiation, is applied in layers having a layer thickness d, and the locations in each layer which correspond to a cross-section of the object allocated to said layer are solidified by means of electromagnetic or particle radiation. According to the invention, each cross-section consists of a contour region and an inner region and the method comprises the following sub-step: in a sequence of N successive cross-sections, wherein N is a whole number greater than 1, a partial region is defined in every cross-section as a critical region and the rest of the cross-section is defined as a non-critical region, a number of N layers are applied successively, without solidification of the non-critical regions.

Abstract: Techniques for additive deposition are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a method includes depositing a first portion of a precursor material onto a deposition platform, the precursor material including a suspension of nano-particles and forming a first solid structure of the nano-particles on the deposition platform from the deposited first layer of the precursor material. The method can also include depositing a second portion of the precursor material onto the formed first solid structure of the nano-particles and forming a second solid structure on the first solid structure from the deposited second layer of the precursor material. The three dimensional structure thus formed can be partly or fully cured or sintered during deposition or after deposition resulting in a controlled hierarchical porosity at multiple levels, from mesoscale (e.g., about 10 ?m to about 250 ?m) to nanoscale (e.g., about 900 nm or less) in the same structure.

Abstract: New methods of forming chiral nanoparticles (e.g., nano structures) are provided. The method comprises directing circular polarized light (CPL) towards a nanoparticle precursor to cause a photo induced reaction of the nanoparticle precursor and induce chirality to form a stable chiral nanoparticle. In this manner, CPL is used to template chirality onto nanoparticles without use of any chiral component or chiral ligands for inducing chirality to the particle in such a method. The nanoparticles may include a variety of light-absorbing materials (e.g., CdTe, CdS, Au, and the like). Such methods provide a rapid, simple, and inexpensive way of forming chiral nanoparticles that have long term chiral stability.
