Patent number: 9400217Abstract: Apparatus and method for thermally mapping a component in a high temperature environment. An optical probe (10) has a field of view (14) arranged to encompass a surface of a component (15) to be mapped. The probe (10) captures infrared (IR) emissions in the near or mid IR band. An optical fiber (16) has a field of view to encompass a spot location (18) on the surface of the component within the field of view (14) of the probe (12). The fiber (16) captures emissions in the long IR band. The emissions in the long IR band are indicative of an emittance value at the spot location. This information may be used to calibrate a radiance map of the component generated from the emissions in the near or mid IR band and thus map the absolute temperature of the component regardless of whether the component includes a TBC.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 2014Date of Patent: July 26, 2016Assignee: SIEMENS ENERGY, INC.Inventors: Erwan Baleine, Christine P. Patent number: 9400219Abstract: Metallic thermal emitters consisting of two layers of differently structured nickel gratings on a homogeneous nickel layer are fabricated by soft lithography and studied for polarized thermal radiation. A thermal emitter in combination with a sub-wavelength grating shows a high extinction ratio, with a maximum value close to 5, in a wide mid-infrared range from 3.2 to 7.8 ?m, as well as high emissivity up to 0.65 at a wavelength of 3.7 ?m. All measurements show good agreement with theoretical predictions. Numerical simulations reveal that a high electric field exists within the localized air space surrounded by the gratings and the intensified electric-field is only observed for the polarizations perpendicular to the top sub-wavelength grating. This result suggests how the emissivity of a metal can be selectively enhanced at a certain range of wavelengths for a given polarization.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 2010Date of Patent: July 26, 2016Assignee: Iowa State University Research Foundation, Inc.Inventors: Jae-Hwang Lee, Kai-Ming Ho, Kristen P. Light-controlled electrokinetic assembly of particles near surfaces relics on the combination of three functional elements: the AC electric field-induced assembly of planar aggregates; the patterning of the electrolyte/silicon oxide/silicon interface to exert spatial control over the assembly process; and the real-time control of the assembly process via external illumination. The present invention provides a set of fundamental operations enabling interactive control over the creation and placement of planar arrays of several types of particles and biomolecules and the manipulation of array shape and size. The present invention enables sample preparation and handling for diagnostic assays and biochemical analysis in an array format, and the functional integration of these operations.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 2014Date of Patent: July 26, 2016Assignee: BioArray Solutions, Ltd.Inventor: Michael Seul

Patent number: 9400262Abstract: A method of testing a MEMS pressure sensor device such as, for example, a MEMS microphone package. The MEMS pressure sensor device includes a pressure sensor positioned within a housing and a pressure input port to direct acoustic pressure from outside the housing towards the pressure sensor. An acoustic pressure source is activated and acoustic pressure from the acoustic pressure source is directed to the pressure input port and to an exterior location of the housing other than the pressure input port. Based on the output signal of the pressure sensor, it is determined whether any defects exist that allow acoustic pressure to reach the pressure sensor through the exterior of the housing at locations other than the pressure input port.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 2013Date of Patent: July 26, 2016Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Andrew J. Patent number: 9400265Abstract: A switching valve is described that has a stator which is arranged in a housing and which has multiple connection ports. The switching valve also has a rotatable rotor which is arranged in the housing and which, in predetermined switching positions defined by associated angular positions, interacts with the stator for the fluidic connection or separation of predetermined connection ports. The rotor is rotatably mounted, and acted on with a predefined pressing force in the direction of the stator, by means of a bearing and pressing device arranged in the housing. The bearing and pressing device has a spring device which exerts a load on the rotor or on an element that is capable of performing a wobbling movement.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 2013Date of Patent: July 26, 2016Assignee: DIONEX SOFTRON GMBHInventors: Joachim Wiechers, Hermann Hochgraeber
