Abstract: Active disablement of a target device that is reported as lost or stolen, even if the device no longer has a cellular link. A service assembles a list of target devices that have been reported as lost or stolen, and transmits at least a subset of the assembled list of target devices to candidate proximate systems. If one of the candidate proximate system receives an identification signal from a target device that is on the received list, the proximate system commands the target device to at least partially disable itself. The target device then disables as commanded, and the proximate system may acknowledge the same to the service.

Abstract: A system and method comprises a plurality of RF antennas having beams directed to a storage space in which medical items having RFID tags are stored. Each antenna is controlled to inject energy at a different frequency in a frequency-hopping set of frequencies to activate the tags. The return signal strength is monitored and for each tag that responds, the antenna location, frequency of the injected energy, identification response, and signal strength are stored as identification data. If a tag fails to respond in new scans, the antenna at which the tag last responded receives all the frequency-hopping frequencies in an attempt to locate the tag. If new tags are found, they are compared to a list of expected new medical items.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided that may allow an autonomous vehicle to discern a school bus from image data. An example method may include receiving image data indicative of a vehicles operating in an environment. The image data may depict sizes of the vehicles. The method may also include, based on relative sizes of the vehicles, determining a vehicle that is larger in size as compared the other vehicles. The method may additionally include comparing a size of the determined vehicle to a size of a school bus and based on the size of vehicle being within a threshold size of the school bus, comparing a color of the vehicle to a color of the school bus. The method may further include based on the vehicle being substantially the same color as the school bus, determining that the vehicle is representative of the school bus.

Abstract: Embodiments are described for determining and responding to driver distractions. An example in-vehicle computing system of a vehicle includes an external device interface communicatively connecting the in-vehicle computing system to a mobile device, an inter-vehicle system communication module communicatively connecting the in-vehicle computing system to one or more vehicle systems of the vehicle, a processor, and a storage device storing instructions executable by the processor to receive image data from the mobile device, and determine a driver state based on the received image data. The instructions are further executable to receive vehicle data from one or more of the vehicle systems, determine a vehicle state based on the vehicle data, determine a distraction severity level based on the driver state and the vehicle state, and control one or more devices of the vehicle to perform a selected action based on the distraction severity level.

Abstract: A method for calibrating a camera for a gaze direction detection in a vehicle, to a device for a motor vehicle having a camera and at least one further element, and to a computer program product. The at least one further element is situated in a fixed geometric relationship with the camera the calibration takes place by detecting, in images of the camera, at least one relative change in the gaze direction in which a user changes his gaze in the direction of the further element. The method is characterized in that it is detected by at least one action of the user that the gaze change of the user has taken place or will take place. For the gaze direction then offers an advantage as a result of a dual benefit: it is used both for the calibration and for the action of the user.

Abstract: Extracting financial card information with relaxed alignment comprises a method to receive an image of a card, determine one or more edge finder zones in locations of the image, and identify lines in the one or more edge finder zones. The method further identifies one or more quadrilaterals formed by intersections of extrapolations of the identified lines, determines an aspect ratio of the one or more quadrilateral, and compares the determined aspect ratios of the quadrilateral to an expected aspect ratio. The method then identifies a quadrilateral that matches the expected aspect ratio and performs an optical character recognition algorithm on the rectified model. A similar method is performed on multiple cards in an image. The results of the analysis of each of the cards are compared to improve accuracy of the data.

Abstract: In various implementations, a computing device is configured to provide a live preview of salient contours generated on a live digital video feed. In particular, a designer can use a computing device with a camera, such as a smart phone, to view a real-time preview of salient contours generated from edges detected in frames of a live digital video feed prior to capture, thereby eliminating the unpredictability of salient contours generated from a previously captured image. In some implementations, the salient contours are overlaid on a greyscale conversion of the live digital video feed for improved processing and visual contrast. Other implementations modify aspects of edge-detecting or post-processing filters for improved performance on mobile computing devices.
