Abstract: A method of conducting a distillation process and a cross-corrugated structured packing for use in such a process in which ascending vapor phases and descending liquid phases are contacted in such packing. The cross-corrugated structured packing contains corrugated sheets fabricated of an open cell foam-like material. The liquid phase produces a liquid film descending along struts forming cells of the material and the vapor phase ascends within the cross-corrugated structured packing and enters the cells and contacts the liquid film. The cross-corrugated structured packing is configured such that a superficial velocity at which ambient air would flow through the cross-corrugated structured packing at a pressure drop of 0.3? wc/ft is no greater than 20 times a reference superficial velocity at which the ambient air would flow through the foam-like material making up the corrugated sheets at the same pressure drop to ensure that vapor enters the cells of the foam-like material.

Abstract: Materials which react with (“scavenge”) sulfur compounds, such as hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans, are useful for limiting sulfur-induced corrosion. Surface-modified particles incorporating a hexahydrotriazine moiety are disclosed and used as sulfur scavengers. These surface-modified particles are used a filter media in fixed filter systems and as additives to fluids including sulfur compounds. The hexahydrotriazine moiety can react with sulfur compounds in such a manner as to bind sulfur atoms to the surface-modified particles, thus allowing removal of the sulfur atoms from fluids such as crude oil, natural gas, hydrocarbon combustion exhaust gases, sulfur polluted air and water. The surface-modified particles may, in general, be sized to allow separation of the particles from the process fluid by sedimentation, size-exclusion filtration or the like.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for processing an aggregate material, the device comprising a hopper to receive an aggregate material and a conveyor tube with a proximal end adapted to receive the aggregate material from a hopper. The conveyor tube is further connected to multiple induction jets supplying pressurized water received from a water pump to form a slurry mix of aggregate material. A plurality of wear plates mounted on an inner surface of the conveyor tube, to allow the slurry mix to travel cylindrically around and down the tube towards a discharge outlet at a distal end of the conveyor tube.

Abstract: A waste gas is contacted with a mercury removal agent to remove mercury and a flue gas conditioning agent to alter a resistivity and/or cohesivity of particulates. The flue gas conditioning agent can be substantially free of SO3and/or comprise more than about 25 wt. % SO3, and/or the mercury removal agent can be substantially unaffected by the flue gas conditioning agent. An amount of mercury removed from the waste gas in the presence of the flue gas conditioning agent can be the same or more than that removed from the waste gas in the absence of the flue gas conditioning agent. An amount of the acid gas removed, by an acid gas removal agent, from the waste gas in the presence of the flue gas conditioning agent can be the same or more than that removed from the waste gas in the absence of the flue gas conditioning agent.

Abstract: A grit removal unit including an influent channel directing wastewater with grit into a round grit removal chamber and an effluent channel receives wastewater output from the chamber. A divider wall extends upwardly between the sides of the influent channel, and gates at the upstream end of the divider wall are adjustable to selectively open channel portions on opposite sides of the divider wall. An output guide member is mounted to allow selective adjustment of output flow opening width “c” to the effluent channel. The output guide member has a horizontal bottom extending from the chamber into the effluent channel across the width of the output opening, and a guide wall extending upwardly from the guide member bottom. The guide wall has a forward end spaced from the chamber annular vertical wall to define the output flow opening width therebetween.

Abstract: A method and system for separating multicomponent fluids into components having different buoyancies. A flow shaping member has a helical channel that imparts a helical motion to the fluid, and a separation chamber for separating the moving fluid into a helically moving heavier flow portion and a more buoyant portion along the central axis. A flow receiving member has a first collection horn with a mouth arranged to collect the higher buoyancy fluid and direct the fluid to an outlet. At least one other fluid passageway for carrying lower buoyancy fluid has an inlet surrounding of the collection horn, and directs the fluid to a separate outlet at an end of the separator. Additional collection horns can be arranged concentrically around the first collection horn to collect intermediate buoyancy flows. Cascaded fluid separators can concentrate the higher buoyancy fluid or the denser fluid.

Abstract: A centrifugal air cleaning system broadly comprises an insert cartridge including a housing, an inlet, one or more flow guides, a stator, a compression nozzle, an expansion nozzle, and an outlet. The flow guides guide air flowing into the inlet past the stator into the compression nozzle. The stator induces a rotational vortex into the air flow. Air with heavier particles in the air flow is urged to the outside of the rotational vortex. Air with lighter particles and cleaner air is urged to the inside of the rotational vortex. The compression nozzle and the expansion nozzle are aligned to cooperatively form an annular exhaust channel. The air with the heavier particles flows through the annular exhaust channel and the air with the lighter particles and the cleaner air flows to the expansion nozzle to the outlet.

A nozzle may be devised that utilizes an adjustment motion common to operators of such a nozzle, where the adjustment motion allows the operator to switch between a fully open flow and a restricted flow. The fully open flow can provide a smooth bore straight profile stream of fluid at a higher flow rate, and the restricted flow can provide the smooth bore straight profile stream at a lower flow rate.

Abstract: The atomization device is provided which contains a base having two indentations oppositely and axially aligned with gradually decreasing diameters towards each other. A connection channel connects the two indentations. A first chamber and a second chamber are formed laterally between the two indentations. The first chamber has a larger height than that of the second chamber. A transmission pipe is configured inside the base connecting the first chamber and one of the opposite sides. After the fluid to be atomized is introduced into the base, it first enters the first chamber through the transmission pipe. After the first chamber is filled, fluid then enters the second chamber uniformly. In the meantime, air is forced to flow through the connection channel and fluid is as such atomized and ejected out from the second chamber with high uniformity.
