Abstract: A highly fluorinated polymer is very useful as an acid catalyst. The highly fluorinated polymer has at least two repeating unit types that are the polymerized derivatives of a perfluorinated cyclic or cyclizable compound and a highly fluorinated vinyl ether compound having a sulfur containing functional group. The polymer can be formed by radical copolymerization of the fluorinated monomers with the sulfur-containing functional group in sulfonyl fluoride form (—SO2F) that is subsequently converted to sulfonic acid form (—SO3H). The highly fluorinated polymer can be used to advantage in a solution comprising an aprotic, polar organic solvent that has a dielectric constant of at least 15 and preferably is free of hydroxyl functional groups. Suitable solvents are those in which the polymer is soluble to at least 1 wt %. Hydroxyl group-containing protic, polar organic solvents are less preferred.

Abstract: A new class of ligands derived from benzo[h]quinoline are described and these ligands are used to prepare several novel transition metal complexes. The complexes are preferably of the group VIII transition metals iron, ruthenium or osmium, with the benzo[h]quinolone ligands acting as tridentate ligands. The complexes described are proved to be very active catalysts for the reduction of ketones and aldehydes to alcohols, via hydrogen transfer and hydrogenation reactions. These compounds hence can be usefully employed as catalysts in said reduction reactions.

Abstract: The present invention provides a technique which allows stable use of an ion-exchange resin for removing boron impurities over a long period of time in the purification step of a silane compound or a chlorosilane compound. In the present invention, a weakly basic ion-exchange resin used for the purification of a silane compound and a chlorosilane compound is cleaned with a gas containing hydrogen chloride. When this cleaning treatment is used for the initial activation of the weakly basic ion-exchange resin, a higher impurity-adsorbing capacity can be obtained. Further, use of the cleaning treatment for the regeneration of the weakly basic ion-exchange resin allows stable use of the ion-exchange resin for a long time. This allows reduction in the amount of the resin used in a long-term operation and reduction in the cost of used resin disposal.

Abstract: An atomizing apparatus for development of biological trace evidence comprises a container which has an opening and a housing space communicating with the opening, a trace evidence developing solution held in the housing space to develop a biological trace evidence and an atomizer located in the opening. The atomizer includes a piezoelectric vibration element in contact with the trace evidence developing solution. The piezoelectric vibration element can shake the trace evidence developing solution via high frequency vibration to form a plurality of small liquid particles to be discharged outside the container. The small liquid particles of the trace evidence developing solution pass through the opening and spray directly on the biological trace evidence to generate an oxidized reduction reaction therewith to produce colored substance to reveal the biological trace evidence in a visible fashion.

Abstract: The purpose is to provide a discharge system that adopts an optimal structure for connecting a discharging device to a refilling device in a substantially aligned fashion by moving the discharging device. A discharge system includes a discharging device, a refilling device, a discharge-side coupler, a refill-side coupler, and a manipulator. The discharge-side coupler is connectable to the refill-side coupler by relatively moving the discharge-side coupler in an axial line N direction of the refill-side coupler and fluid can be refilled from the refilling device side to the discharging device side. A coupling position between the manipulator and the discharging device reaches on the axial line N when connecting the refill-side coupler and the discharge-side coupler.

Abstract: The purpose is to provide a discharge system which can minimize wear of a connecting part of a discharging device and a refilling device which is caused under the influence of particulate matters contained in fluid even if connection and disconnection for refilling the discharging device with the fluid is repeated. A discharge system includes a discharging device capable of discharging the fluid, and a refilling device capable of refilling the discharging device with the fluid. The fluid is suppliable from the refilling device side to the discharging device side by inserting one of a discharge-side coupler provided to the discharging device side and a refill-side coupler provided to the refilling device side into the other to connect the discharging device to the refilling device. A clearance size d formed between the discharge-side coupler and the refill-side coupler is determined based on the particle size distribution of the particulate matters that constitutes the fluid.
