Abstract: There is provided a test method for analysing a body fluid in which a test tape is used in a test device to successively provide analytical test fields stored on the test tape, wherein body fluid is applied by a user to the test field provided at a time and the said test field is photometrically scanned using a measuring unit of the device to record measurement signals. To increase the measurement reliability, it is proposed that a control value is determined from a time-dependent and/or wavelength-dependent change in the measurement signals and that the measurement signals are processed as valid or discarded as erroneous depending on the control value.

Abstract: Contaminants, in particular stains, of cleaned or washed items of laundry can be on both sides. Therefore, it is necessary to examine washed or cleaned items of laundry on each side in respect of contaminants. This is very complicated. The invention provides for illuminating or transilluminating the items of laundry from one side by a lighting apparatus, as a result of which contaminants on this illuminated or transilluminated side of the items of laundry shine through to the opposite side. As a result, contaminants on both sides of the items of laundry are establishable from one side, which is directed away from the lighting apparatus, by way of a camera or the like. Therefore, as a result of the invention, it is not necessary to examine both sides of the items of laundry, either simultaneously or in succession, in respect of the presence of contaminants.

Abstract: Frame data of tomographic planes that are parallel in the scan direction and between an X-ray tube and an X-ray detecting unit is generated based on detected frame data. The generation of frame data is based on the fan-shaped spreading of an X-ray beam and the differences in position in a height direction between the tomographic planes from a detection surface. Tomographic images are respectively generated from the frame data of the tomographic planes based on laminography technique. Edge information based on the changes in pixel values in each tomographic image is calculated for each pixel. A three-dimensional distribution of the edge information is generated and the edge information is searched in a direction passing through the tomographic planes and pixels indicating a maximum value in the edge information are detected. Only pixels in the tomographic images that positionally correspond to detected pixels are combined into a single composite image.

Abstract: This invention provides a plasma treatment detection indicator that uses a fibrous base material or a synthetic resin base material comprising a coloring pigment as a base material and in which fine fiber pieces or coloring pigment is prevented from being generated in a powder form from the base material in plasma treatment. More specifically, this invention provides a plasma treatment detection indicator comprising a base material and at least a color-changing layer that changes color in a plasma treatment atmosphere, the color-changing layer being disposed above part or all of a surface of the base material, (1) the base material being a fibrous base material or a synthetic resin base material comprising a coloring pigment, and (2) a resin-based or inorganic transparent cover layer that covers all of the surface of the base material being disposed between the base material and the color-changing layer.

Abstract: This invention relates to indicating devices, such as time-temperature indicators based on lateral diffusion of a vapor of a solid and/or liquid mobile phase (e.g., a sublimeable dye or an activator) through a non-porous stationary phase, such as a thin layer of a polymeric material. The lateral diffusion of the mobile phase creates a noticeable boundary in the stationary phase whose movement depends upon processes, such as time and temperature.

Abstract: Techniques and systems are disclosed for a bioassay that is an in vitro mimic of peripheral nerve generation using the sensory neurons that innervate the peripheral nervous system. In some embodiments, the techniques may assist in detecting the bioactivity or potency of nerve grafts (e.g., processed, acellular human allografts) for fostering or supporting peripheral nerve regeneration. In various embodiments, techniques comprise affixing a harvested sensory neuron (e.g., a DRG) to a nerve graft segment to form a test construct; culturing the test construct in a medium; analyzing the test construct to indicate the amount of outgrowing peripheral nerve structure; and determining the potency of the nerve graft from a metric derived from the analysis. In some embodiments, techniques and materials may be used to test the effect of a varied test condition on peripheral nerve growth.
