Abstract: System and methods for estimating a relationship between a SOC and an OCV of a battery system included in a vehicle are presented. In certain embodiments, an initial relationship between an open circuit voltage (“OCV”) and a state of charge (“SOC”) of a cell of the battery system may be determined at a beginning of life of the cell. Changes in one or more stoichiometric points of a half-cell of the cell may be determined as the cell ages. Based on the determined stoichiometric point changes of the half-cell, an initial relationship between the OCV and the SOC of the cell may be adjusted to generate an updated relationship between the OCV and the SOC of the cell.

Abstract: A state-detection device, adapted in a host, includes a battery, a gas gauge, a processor, and a display. The battery is operating in an operation state. The gas gauge is configured to instantly detect the operation state and stores state information of the battery in a plurality of registers. The processor determines, according to the state information, whether the battery is operating in a normal state, a temporary failure state, or a permanent failure state to generate state-determination information. When the battery is operating in the temporary failure state, the processor further determines whether the temporary failure state is an over-temperature state, an over-voltage state, or an over-current state according to a first value, a second value, and a third value, respectively, of the state information. The display is configured to display the state-determination information.

Abstract: A method of forming a sensor array comprising a series connection of parallel GMR sensor stripes that provides a sensitive mechanism for detecting the presence of magnetized particles bonded to biological molecules that are affixed to a substrate. The adverse effect of hysteresis on the maintenance of a stable bias point for the magnetic moment of the sensor free layer is eliminated by a combination of biasing the sensor along its longitudinal direction rather than the usual transverse direction and by using the overcoat stress and magnetostriction of magnetic layers to create a compensatory transverse magnetic anisotropy. By making the spaces between the stripes narrower than the dimension of the magnetized particle and by making the width of the stripes equal to the dimension of the particle, the sensitivity of the sensor array is enhanced.
