Abstract: A method of shaping a component includes providing a plurality of work-piece blanks The method also includes generating a contour in each work-piece blank, such that each contour is bordered by a region of material of the respective work-piece blank. The method also includes stacking the work-piece blanks such that the contour of one work-piece blank is aligned with the contours of the other blanks The method additionally includes simultaneously annealing the region of material bordering the respective contour of each stacked work-piece blank to thereby enhance formability of the region of material. Furthermore, the method includes forming a shape in at least one of the work-piece blanks via stretching the annealed region of material bordering the respective contour to thereby shape at least one component. The component can be a structural reinforcement for a vehicle.

Abstract: A multi-opening oven assembly for simultaneously heating a plurality of blanks, for example aluminum blanks, before forming the heated blanks in a production line is provided. The oven assembly includes vertically aligned shelves to present a plurality of chambers for heating the blanks. A table including an entry side platform and an exit side platform moves vertically along the oven assembly. A rail system extends along the platforms and the shelves to convey the blanks in and out of the chambers. Once one set of heated blanks is removed from a first chamber, the table moves vertically to a second chamber and is ready to receive the next set of heated blanks. A continuous supply of heated blanks is provided for high throughput. The oven assembly is preferably disposed in a press adjacent a forming station of an existing production line and thus, no additional floor space is required.

Abstract: A die cushion-cum-slide cushion device selectively opens and closes a flow channel between a hydraulic pump/motor driven by a servo motor, and hydraulic cylinders that generate slide cushion force, or a flow channel between the hydraulic pump/motor, and hydraulic cylinders that generate die cushion force, by switching a selector valve. Before applying the slide cushion force is started, the servo motor is controlled to allow the hydraulic cylinders to generate required slide cushion force through a check valve. While the slide cushion force is applied, hydraulic circuits, each of which includes a logic valve, control pressure of the hydraulic cylinders, and hydraulic circuits, each of which includes the servo motor, control die cushion pressure of the hydraulic cylinders.

Abstract: Provided is a polygonal in which a decoration effect equivalent to that of a cylindrical base-can is obtained without causing folding or deformation in a can body-part. Bottom-part outer-peripheral parts (A-2) of a cylindrical base-can that are expected to form linear parts (B-2) of a polygonal can (B) are moved inward in a radial direction, while bottom-part outer-peripheral parts (A-1) of the cylindrical base-can that are expected to form corner parts (B-1) of the polygonal can are moved outward in the radial direction. Thus, the polygonal can is molded such that the body-part cross-section peripheral length of the cylindrical base-can and the body-part cross-section peripheral length of the molded polygonal can have a substantially isometric relationship.

Abstract: A wire supply station comprises a container 34 in which the wire is retained in a multitude of loops (not shown) of substantially the same diameter around a cylindrical inside surface of the drum. The wire 16 emerges from the drum 34 under no tension and substantially straight. It is then fed between guide or feed rollers 20 into the coiling head 12. The wire 16 is formed into a continuous coil, from which lengths are cut by a cutter (not shown) to form individual coil springs 24. The individual coil springs 24 are then carried by the spring transfer station 26 to the fabric pocket welding station 28 where they become encased in individual pockets when the welding heads 30 weld the material. Pre-straightening the wire before storing it in loops inside the cylindrical drum 34 allows for a more consistent pocket spring, and ultimately a flatter spring unit/mattress as any pre-stressing of the wire, caused by the drawing process used to manufacture it, is neutralised leaving the wire largely stress-free.

Abstract: Systems and processes for feeding longitudinal wires in a mesh 3 production machine. Mesh 3 is produced by the welding of longitudinal wires 2 with transverse wires 6 at a welding unit 27. The longitudinal wires may be pulled from decoiler reel 40, straightened, and then deposited in longitudinals storage 19. They are then received by a longitudinals carrier 15 and transported towards welding unit 27. The longitudinal wires 2 are selectively rotated around their longitudinal axes with selected angle, and restrained until their welding with the transverse wires. This negates effects of any possible curvature acquired during their straightening with rollers 9, so that after their welding, the resulting mesh 3 is produced planar with the distortion stresses neutralized.
