Abstract: Disclosed is a joining structure for joining dissimilar materials, such as a plastic plate and a metal plate. The joining structure is positioned or formed at where a plastic plate and a metal plate are joined. The joining structure includes: a self-piercing rivet piercing through the plastic plate to be pressed onto the metal plate and subjected to plastic deformation. In particular, the plastic plate includes a self-healing capsule containing a self-healing agent in a base material of a plastic resin and a catalyst being polymerized with the self-healing agent. The self-healing capsule is broken by a crack of the base material at a periphery of a pierced portion of the plastic plate, and the self-healing agent flowing out of the self-healing capsule fills a gap of the crack and causes polymerization with the catalyst to cure the crack portion.

Abstract: A weld stud including a shank that has a reduced diameter portion, and a larger diameter portion. A weld base is defined on the reduced diameter portion and a flange is positioned on the larger diameter portion. A bore wall extends axially through a face of the flange and into the larger diameter portion. The bore wall has a threaded portion that has a threaded diameter for receiving a fastener. A base diameter of the weld base is smaller than a larger diameter of the larger diameter portion and substantially equal to, or smaller than the threaded diameter. The threaded portion is axially spaced from the face of the flange by a first unthreaded portion, which defines a first unthreaded diameter that is larger than the threaded diameter. These features limit the loads transmitted to the fastener, thus allowing the weld stud to withstand shock loads to prevent fastener failures.

Abstract: A composite tube made from a combination fiber and epoxy is disclosed. The tube may be made by filament winding although other materials and processes are suitable. In one example, the tube laminate is a mix of axial and helical fibers tailored to meet the stiffness and strength requirements of the particular application. Fibers having a different modulus may also be mixed to meet axial and torsional stiffness requirements. For example, high modulus fibers may be used in a helical pattern to handle high torque loads while lower modulus fibers may be used for the remaining portion of the tube laminate. The composite tube may be used for load and/or torque bearing applications and can include a support tube pressed fit into an end of the tube.

Abstract: A rocking journal bearing is provided in a piston coupling mechanism of a two-stroke cycle engine. The bearing includes a sleeve and a wristpin constructed with two sets of eccentrically-disposed bearing surfaces which alternate in accepting a compressive load during an operational cycle of the bearing. The sleeve includes a network of grooves to transport oil to the bearing surfaces. Lubricating oil flow through the bearing is minimized by limiting provision of pressurized oil from the wristpin to the network of grooves to portions of the cycle when one or the other of the sets of bearing surfaces receives the compressive load.
