According to this invention, a plaster mandrel is effective with controlled exposure to such high temperature. The morphology of wrinkles depends on both the magnitude and the nature of compressive strains that are applied to the thin film. This disclosure presents the methods to fabricate asymmetric 2-D wrinkled structures using biaxial compressive strains. The method relies on the dependence of wrinkle morphology on both strains and strain paths to generate asymmetric 2D wrinkles. Asymmetry is achieved by deliberately traversing the system through a strain state that creates cracks along a preferential direction. Fabricated patterns include non-uniform zigzag wrinkles that demonstrate period doubling only along one direction.

    Abstract: A method of calibrating ejectors in an ejector head in a three-dimensional object printer normalizes the masses of the drops ejected by the ejectors. The method operates the plurality of ejectors to eject drops of material to form a plurality of pixels corresponding to a test pattern on the surface. Each ejector in the plurality of ejectors is operated to form a group of adjacent pixels in the test pattern. Each group of adjacent pixels is at least n pixels wide in a cross-process direction for the printer. The method operates a sensor to measure heights of pixels for each group of adjacent pixels in the test pattern. The method adjusts an operation of the plurality of ejectors to normalize heights of layers of material formed by the plurality of ejectors based on the measured heights for the groups of adjacent pixels.

    Abstract: A method of curing a composite layup may include applying an inner bag vacuum pressure to an inner bag chamber and an outer vacuum pressure to an outer vacuum chamber. The vacuum inner bag chamber may be formed by a vacuum bag covering a composite layup and sealed to a forming tool with an inner bag chamber seal. The inner bag vacuum pressure may be no less than the outer vacuum pressure. The temperature of the composite layup may be increased to an elevated temperature to initiate a temperature hold period. The method may additionally include venting the outer vacuum chamber to atmosphere to initiate an outer vacuum chamber venting period during the temperature hold period, and applying compaction pressure to the inner bag chamber seal during the outer vacuum chamber venting period. The outer vacuum pressure may be re-applied to the outer vacuum chamber to terminate the outer vacuum chamber venting period.
